  • Great for music - excellent for calls. Ability to personalize is the icing on the cake.
Color: Titanium Black Style: Elite 85t
I have a new favorite pair of earbuds. I'll walk through some detailed feedback below, but overall the 85t's sound great when I'm listening to music or watching movies and are outstanding on calls. The Cons: - I really like the ANC feature, I use it a lot when working (mostly from home now) and traveling. ANC on the 85t works as good or better than other earbuds I've tried, but the ANC isn't as strong as some of the high end over-ear headphones. I think by covering the whole ear (with headphones) you can block out more sound. But again, for in ear earbuds I haven't experienced better ANC. The 85t ANC is good enough for most environments, but I'll still use my ANC headphones at times like when I want to sleep on long flights. - It's not a major issue for me, but it would be nice to have the flexibility to use either the L or R bud individually. With the 85t its only possible to use the R bud individually. Again, this isn't a major issue for me for a couple of reasons: 1, I usually use my right ear when talking on the phone anyway, and 2. in the past I've wanted to use a single bud on phone calls because of the occlusion effect (hearing yourself) with other buds. But that hasn't been an issue for me with the 85t (see below in Pros). - I use my buds a lot for phone calls. In most environments they're outstanding, but in some noisier environments the 85t's do pick up some ambient noise and the person on the other end can hear it. For most calls (from home and other places) the call quality is great on both sides, but noisy locations can be a challenge. The Pros: - Call quality. As I mentioned above there are a few exceptions (really noisy environments) but I've been really impressed with the 85t. I hear the other person very clearly and I've received consistent feedback the same from their end. I really like the change they've made that makes calls sound much more natural - no more occlusion. I keep both buds in which lets me hear the other person in stereo making it easier for me to clearly hear them and my own voice sounds like I'm talking without anything in my ears. - Sound quality. My music sounds great. With the Jabra Sound+ app I'm able to adjust the EQ and get what seems to me to be the perfect balance of bass, mid and high range. With that optimized adjustment, it seems like I can also more clearly hear the dialogue when I'm watching movies - especially during flights. - Personalized sound. I took the hearing test during the set up process on the Jabra Sound+ app. I like that the 85t is smart enough to optimize the sound settings for my hearing profile. I also like the ability to personalize the controls. I played around with changing them. I'm not sure if my current button configuration is much different from the default, but the controls are now intuitive for me. - Size. I can't believe how small and light the 85t's are. They are very comfortable. I've used them for hours at a time and I forget I'm wearing them. - Hear through. I use the 85t to block out noise when I'm working or just want to relax. The hear through feature makes it easy, with the touch of a button, to become aware and clearly hear my environment; it could be my wife or kids wanting to talk to me or even the TV from across the room. Hear through almost seems to magnify the sound I want to hear while blocking out other noise. Not sure how it does that or if it's just me, but it seems like I can use the feature to zoom in and listen to a conversation. Overall, I really like these. I'm got a pair for my wife for Christmas. She's the exerciser of the family (not me) and she likes them too ... show more

  • Jabra 85t: Dorothy like
Color: Titanium Black Style: Elite 85t
My Jabra 85t earbuds are really good. I was happy with Jabra 65t earbuds. The sound seemed fine. Problem was the charging case battery was starting to fade. I wondered how long it would have taken for the 65t earbud batteries to fade. It didn’t seem worthwhile to buy a new charging case. Also, the micro USB cable wouldn’t always connect correctly to the charging case; I’d plug it in and charging would not start and I’d have to disconnect/replug. I’ve had the 65t earbuds for a bit over 2 years. For 85t sound quality, I was delighted to have some music passages light up like color in the Wizard of Oz. I was not expecting that. I have no comparison base, but the active noise cancellation seems good. It’s really good for consistent noise like road roar. As I walked today, it made engine noise from passing gas cars sound like they were all Teslas. The ANC seemed less good for my dog barking in my car. The sound isolation of the 65t earbuds are likely better for that. I’ve already experienced some oddities with ANC. When I use my induction cooking hot plate and stand near it while it’s on, the ANC goes whacko with a WOW-WOW-WOW sound. I turned off the ANC and everything sounded fine. Also, the electromagnetics of my treadmill make my 85t earbuds nearly unusable. I didn’t try turning off the ANC, so I don’t know that I can accuse ANC. This was once an issue with my 65t earbuds, until a firmware update came along. Possibly a future firmware update will resolve this for the 85t earbuds. The shape and lack of texture combined with the magnetic case sockets make it a bit of a challenge to extract the earbuds from the case, especially with the cold dry weather we have now. I hadn’t realized the 85t earbuds were a bit larger until I looked in the mirror and noticed that they protruded from my ears a bit more. The medium tips fit nicely; better than the 65t earbuds. Phone call quality seems very good. Thanks to Jabra for the USB C charging case connector. I no longer have to puzzle over over which way to orient the plug in a dimly lit room. Also, the magnetic open/close charging case lid is very nice. I’ve almost learned that I don’t need as much muscle to open and close it as compared to my 65t earbuds case. The earbud button controls are fine. However, the press and hold to adjust volume is a bit tricky; I sometimes go too much or let go too soon and stop play rather than change volume – it‘s not a big deal. The updates required when they first came out of the case went smoothly. However, with the language update, the earbuds updated fine. But, having been doing Microsoft Windows updates for years, where often there is yet another update even though you’d just done one, I wanted to check again for a language update; the earbuds repeated the whole update process again, even though they’d already been updated. I had expected to be told no update was required. Again, no big deal. Since I’ve only had the 85t earbuds a few days, I cannot comment on durability or longevity. Bluetooth connection: With my Jabra 65t earbuds and version one Pixel XL, the Bluetooth connection was very frustrating. There were many dropouts. When I finally moved to an iPhone 11, the Bluetooth connection with the 65t earbuds worked very well. The 85t earbuds connection to my iPhone 11 is also rock solid. Due to the vented design, with the 85t earbuds, it’s very nice to be able to chew food and not feel strong pressure on your eardrums. In summary, I am very happy with my Jabra 85t earbuds purchase. ... show more
