I bought three because I’m hard on them and lose them. all three were slightly different when hanging on a string. they were perfect sitting on a table but usually that’s not how I use them. I sent them back and got three Different ones. 1 is perfect, another very close. The third in the picture is way off, even on a table top. you can mark it with a sharpee to correct the error. Put the level at the middle of the string to get the ends of the string level. to check you string declination put the level 1/4 of the way and make sure its still flat. PS The free level app on the iPhone works perfectly to calibrate the line level. Unfortunately, you can’t hang your iPhone on a string 😎( PPS to check any level, get it level then switch it 180 degrees and it should still read level) ... show more

Get your string as tight as physically possible and toss this little guy on for a quick reference. Obviously not for precision, but it will get you close. Great for roughing in a grade.

    • Simple Tool at low price, Works fine.
It's a very simple tool, and also pretty cheap in price. I wasn't overly amazed by it, but it serves its purpose. It can be a little tough to get on a taught string-line and it is just simple plastic so the hooks get a little smooshed in my vest, but did not break.
