The automatic open-as-it-nears system works pretty well, a bit slow but secure. Release trigger button is a bit cumbersome. Wish it had a way to raise it 4-8 inches, just not part of the design.

I had the vent clip model of iOttie, but driving over pot holes or bumps would frequently dislodge the charger from my vent. I like knowing that the cup holder charger cannot dislodge itself. The only drawback is the overall footprint of the charger in the cup holder. In my Chevy Equinox, the cup holders are vertical, so having the charger in 1 slot basically means that both slots are taken as it's very difficult to put a drink in the other holder. The gear shifter is also in the way for optimal positioning of the charger. If I move the charger to the bottom holder, my phone is not easily viewed. I haven't played around with it too much, so there may be a better solution. ... show more

First of all I really liked the features of this. Pretty cool the way it senses your phone and opens up automatically. A button on either side can be pushed to release the phone (arms open automatically). Yes it has to be plugged in to open it and you have a few seconds to remove it once you turn the car off. I have an older Samsung S6 and it was charging it fine...just not in a "fast charge" mode. I think that is more my old phones technology. My problem with it is that, with my Sonata, if you use the cup holder closest to the dashboard it takes up space in the second cup holder. Basically it renders both cup holders useless for drinks. If I put it in the other cup holder it's too close to my arm rest. and not really functionable. Having said that I like the coolness so much I'm returning it and getting the vent clip style. ... show more

Cup holder mechanism is great. The auto-open/close arms work OK but it needs my car turned on first to work. No USB-C connection: Only micro-USB. The swivel mount is awful since it's fixed on one side and it makes the contraption take up the space of both cup holders. In my car, this setup makes it tricky to access my shifter and hard to get at the release button on the charger. I have no idea why the swivel mount didn't face the inside of the holder instead of the outside. Some great design features but also some really, really bad (deal-breaker) choices. Super solid and the auto opening is a an amazing feature...i never ever take the time to with any charger to put the phone in place before i drive, and with this you just hold the phone near the charger, push gently and wala! And it's great positioning on my prius, clear of radia and other controls, but still easily visible and easy to hit while driving. Solid enough that i can unlock with fingerprint and do a few basic things like turn on map or make a phone call. Beyond that, the last wireless chargers haven't lasted that long and I promise this will get knocked down to 1 star if like the others it fries out not long after the warranty expires. ... show more

I liked this cup holder charger, but the arms would not open immediately after the car was turned off, which is a major drawback for me. My previous Zeehoo charger performed that function well and it is something I don't want to live without (I always turn the car off before I remove my phone from the holder). This charger is supposed to do that, as documented: "The Auto Sense has an internal battery that allows the arms to open for up to an hour after your vehicle is shut off." However, the arms wouldn't open when the buttons were pressed if the car was off. I thought perhaps it had to charge up for a while before it could be used, but it didn't work when I turned the car off after driving for an hour. It hss two buttons that can be used to open the arms, but neither worked, so I concluded the internal battery was either defective or not installed. I googled to look for this issue and others had reported the same thing, so I decided to just return it instead of exchanging. ... show more
