The currents are unpredictable and can send you into weeds and/or rocks constantly, so I take this with and steer myself clear of obstacles, including other tubers. I'm glad I won't be using this for regular paddling, however it will live on the deck of my kayak just in case. For it's size it feels heavy to me, though that weight does come with a good sense of durability too. It has one purpose and that's to get me to my other paddle should we become separated and I have every confidence it will work for that purpose, an important piece of safety gear too many people skip. I hope I never have to use it (though I will do some practicing of pulling it out and getting underway with it) but as they saying goes; better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. ... show more

I wouldn't want to use this as a primary paddle but you never know when you might lose a paddle I prefer to keep an emergency paddle on me just to get back to shore. This one is telescopic. It's very similar to other emergency paddles I have looked at in this price range. It's compact and lightweight. The quality is acceptable for kayaks and canoes. I would likely get something a bit more sturdy for heavier boats. Extremely minor assembly is required if you consider snapping a single piece on assembly. This would be a great gift for family or friends to give you a little more peace of mind. ... show more

Any small vessel should have a back-up form of propulsion. I have a fishing kayak and this fits into my front or rear storage ports. So in the event of a overturn, and somehow I lose my main paddle...this will suffice. It folds down to be pretty compact, but is sturdy as you'd need. I'm 6'1" and 230 lbs and think this would push me along fine. For the price, don't pass on it. I'd expect to pay double that at the local sporting goods store. ... show more

Whenever we’ve been out fishing or kayaking, we’ve always been very careful about keeping track of our paddles, but if something ever happened and we lost them, we’d sure wish we had an extra one hidden away just in case! This paddle is small and lightweight and easy to strap down or store somewhere in the boat for just such a scenario. It’s easy to assemble the handle and extend the shaft so we have a full-size working paddle! It has a nice ergonomic rounded T-grip handle and a strong aluminum metal shaft. The high-impact plastic blade is 6.5” wide by 12” long, and the shaft extends from 21” to 42”, clicking into place with metal buttons. I love the bright green color. Won't be easy to lose this thing. Feels quite solid, and easy to extend or collapse. I will admit, given the daily highs in the mid 20s lately, I haven't been out for a practical test on the lake, but it holds up well to manhandling. I'll update after it warms up enough for a real use test. In the meantime, at $10 for the green, it compares favirably to the 15 price for the Atwood or Ozark Trail at Walmart. ... show more
