  • Good buy!
Color: Green Pattern Name: Bike Trailer
I love this thing. My kiddo loves to look at the wildlife and she has a really good view! There’s 2 cup holders inside for her and a little storage behind her seat. Love it! The only thing is when she falls asleep i gently have to unbuckle her and lay her down so she doesnt hurt her neck sleeping sitting up. ... show more

  • No brake
Color: Orange Pattern Name: Bike Trailer
Only thing I would change is that it doesn't have a brake. It has straps you can clip into place, but not helpful when you have kids running around and need to lock the wheels quickly. Overall love it though.

  • Good entry-level product. The more you use it, the more you'll want to upgrade
Color: Orange Pattern Name: Bike Trailer
The idea behind a trailer/stroller combo is pretty fantastic. In theory, it allows a reasonably athletic parent to haul 2 <5yo children and all their gear a couple of miles in comfort and safety without having to worry about parking or negotiating public transit. Then on arrival at the playground, museum, grocery store or other destination, it becomes a full featured stroller. For a certain cachet of urban parents, the top-of-the-line Thule Chariot, which retails for $1200, is the ultimate responsible parenting accessory. So how does the instep trailer, costing almost $1000 less, stack up? And how does it stack up against it's more reasonably priced competitors like the $400 Burley Honey Bee? Short answer, this trailer stroller works. It hauls, it strolls, it switches between them. Long answer, it doesn't do these things as well or as reliably. And it has a few maddening quicks and shortcuts to save on production costs. Setup: the instep is fairly easy to set up, especially if you're comfortable assembling bike and baby equipment. Build quality and materials aren't fantastic, but everything works. There are lots of snap buttons and velcro where competitors use zippers and fasteners, such as in the rear compartment, which always seemed precarious to me, although I never actually lost anything. As a trailer: Once it's hooked up to the bike, it's actually hard to tell the difference between this and a premium trailer. Premium trailers have bigger wheels, suspension systems and cushier seats to make it more comfortable for the kiddos, but I haven't actually had a kid complain yet. Half the time I make it home with a sleeping toddler in the back. Score one for the instep. My biggest complaint is that the pin which attaches the trailer to the bike needs to be removed completely during the attachment process, and can easily get lost. Would the $3 in parts and labor it would have cost the manufacturer to attach it to arm with a bit of tough nylon really cut into their profit margins? I guess so. 8/10 As a stroller: Premium stroller/trailer combos have invested in all kinds of clever devices to assist the transition from trailer to stroller and vice versa. Not so the instep. There's a screw, and a knob, and the whole front wheel assembly comes off and gets reattached on the other side. You have to hold four things in your hand at once. I don't like this. I haven't lost a screw or washer yet, but I'm sure I will at the worst possible time and place. The other issue is that there are no brakes. Well, the manufacturer has included some string with a snap hook situation you can wrap around the wheel, but it's totally impractical. Like most trailer/stroller combos where the arm is part of the combo, it has an excessive footprint on sidewalks, interiors, and going through doors. Overall the Instep works, but it won't replace your daily driver. 4/10. Bottom line, for the money, this thing works. I got mine to see if I liked using a trailer/stroller combo. After one season, I definitely see the appeal, so I'm going to upgrade to something fancy and scandanavian. ... show more

  • Well-made! Great if you leave it built and don't fold it up often or convert it to a stroller often
Color: Green Pattern Name: Bike Trailer
If you live in a small apartment and need to store this behind your couch, it folds compactly; great! It works! Buy it! BUT, if you want to have the stroller handle on it too, don't buy it! It's too much of a pain to fold up because you have to take off the stroller handle **every stinking time** you want to fold it up! That's a pain! You'll need to spend $400~$500 on a better bike trailer/stroller which folds much better and easier, such as the "Burley Honey Bee, 2 Seat Kids Bike Trailer & Stroller" which folds **incredibly easily and quickly**, withOUT removing the stroller handle, instead! So, if you can leave this thing set up in your garage, it's great! But, if you don't have a garage and you want the convenience of quickly folding it, spend $450 on the Burley Honey Bee instead. I'm returning this and buying that instead, because I need to quickly fold and unfold it often to store it behind the couch in a tiny apartment, and because I want the convenience of **easily** converting it to a stroller each time I arrive at the grocery store so I can push my baby around while shopping, then pedal us both home afterwards. ... show more

  • Just Right
I researched this purchase alot and I found the reviews to be helpful so I will add my insights. I have many years of biking experience and am a former bike mechanic. I would have recomended this trailer to my old customers. The trailer is well made. The welds are very good and the canopy fits tightly. You do need to adjust some straps to get it to fit spot-on but that's to be expected. This trailer is light and easy to fold up and store as well as unfold and get ready. The process to go from folded to ready to roll is about 4 minutes. The trailer is self explanitory so you don't need to haul the directions around to get it set up. The bike hook up is easy, however you need to balance the bike upright to do the hook up. Not a big deal and once the coupling is complete you can lay the bike down. I have two kids who will use the trailer. They are a tight fit inside as I expected. They are comfortable; they have good leg room and a spot for each of them to have cups etc. There is ample room behind them for storage too. The saftey straps are a real bugger. They are not a fastex buckle as you would expect. They are a snap-hook and a "D" ring hook for the shoulder straps. This is ok going on and a pain getting off. Not horrid but really annoying. The trailer tracks the bike very well. It does change the geometry of the bike though; so it will take some getting used to. The added weight really is a good workout. I have kept the speed down. I don't want to really be moving and need to do a quick manuver with it. You do need to be careful about clearance though. Keep in mind your footprint is three times larger than without the trailer. I have been sticking to pavement for now. I want to get my daughters comfortable with it before I go to dirt roads. I will have to do some adjusting of the tire pressure for off road so they don't bounce to death. Over all for the price you are getting more than your moneys worth. I will add to this review if I have an issue down the road. ************* Update 7/18/07. We have around 200 miles on the trailer. So far there have been two issues. The first is with the front wheel you use when using the trailer as a stroller. My wife used it twice and noticed one of the wheels was tilted.-The amazon picture shows one front wheel, there are actually two side-by-side- It ended up being more than tilted the axle was bent badly. I called InStep and they shipped a replacment out very quickly. I would really caution you not to load this up and use it as a stroller...the front wheel just can't handle it. The second issue is a trivial one yet it is an area that a design change could be made. The floor of the trailer is fabric. When rolling your child needs to keep their feet on the front frame bar. If they do not they can push the fabric down so it rubs along the ground. My daughter did this for a short trip and one area is now very worn. It would not take long to get a hole. A plastic tray or a rub pad on the bottom could solve this. So far asking them to keep their feet on the bar has sufficed....just keep it in mind. I would rate this as my best buy of the year and one I wish I done three years ago. I'll update this again if an issue crops up. ... show more
