I'm a professional indy video creator, who travels a lot. I've been an avid Insta360 ONE X user for a couple years. This camera is a very solid upgrade from that. It not only replaces my ONE X, it also replaces my gopro, which I honestly don't use as much, and thus wasn't carrying it in my camera bag much. With the ONE R, I can now always have a solid action camera alongside my 360 camera, without taking up much more space in my camera bag. Pros: Solid picture quality from both camera attachments, excellent stabilization, generally easy to shoot with. The mobile app is amazing, and is a very easy workflow to pull photos and video off the camera, edit, and post to social media, while I'm still out in the field. Cons: - The software on the camera is a bit rough around the edges - not always easy to tell if it's recording or not. - The software workflow for editing the 360 video in pro video editing software SUCKS. I use Adobe Premiere, and it requires a ton of unnecessary steps using 3rd party software (including a Gopro plugin). For casual use though, the Insta360 software is adequate. ... show more

I really like the picture quality from this camera. I have both the 360 mod and the 4K mod. Both give a great picture and are easy to get into premiere pro to edit. I'm using three stock batteries and they both last long enough for what I need them for, I can see how the extended battery might be useful in the future. but for now the standard batteries are great. The camera is holding up very well for what I use it for which is recording hockey games. I have not yet gotten into deep water but I have gotten it splashed a couple of times and it works fine. I use this camera for videoing my kids hockey games. I have a goalie that we mount the camera on the glass behind them and it catches the entire ice except for the two corners right there by the goal. I use the 360 mod for my younger child who plays cross ice and I can get the entire game using the 360 mod. It also makes posting the videos to YouTube kind of fun. Because parents can use controls to follow their player on the ice. If I had a complaint about the camera it would actually be with the app that insta360 pushes out for use with Android. In my experience the app does not work very well on Android so I do most of my stuff in post as opposed to using the filters and settings in the app. ... show more

I am a first time Oner user, and the outcome of this 360-degree camera impressed me. I can personally say that I love the camera a lot. The small design is quite simple and easy to handle. It designed with a straightforward control system make me have no difficulties in understanding. The camera has advanced stabilization performance, and they called it”Flowstate stabilization.”I was worried about the stabilization. However, I used the camera during the weekend biking; the photo quality was impressive. The photo looks bright, colorful, and fancy. And the selfie stick was invisible in my gallery! Such a fantastic function! I noticed this lens adapted with a super high 5.7K 360-degree definition. I also used alcohol wipes and wet cloth to clean my camera, and it still stays in functional status. Also, The software has powerful function and very easy to use, I tried editing the picture, and the only thing I did was click the “little planet” button in my apps. It's very easy for me to obtain a screenshot of one flat photo within the panoramic photos. I also noticed there are several quick editing choices in apps. Camera takes good images and video. Not crazy about the accessory lens guards as they do degrade the image somewhat at times. The app, both PC and phone, keep improving and generally work well. I have had the app on the Iphone crash a few times but once restarted works fine. Lots of editing feature on the phone app, tracking, special effects, speed, key frames, sound tracks, rolls, etc. The real power of a 360 camera is to be able to point it anywhere and still get all the action recorded and then editing it down to a flat image showing only what you want. The PC app is more limited but does now support tracking with more features promised. Overall, very happy with the camera. ... show more

This camera has so much fun to play with. It is a modular camera built up with the core, the battery and different lens, like LEGO. What really blows my mind is it could waterproof after building up together. I dipped the camera in my swimming pool in my first testing and it kept recording and never died. Such a great design! The software is easy to use. I could connect to my iPhone in less than 3 seconds. The Shot lab is a gift for people like me who don’t have lots of editing skills. Good job Insta360! I would also like to try out the 1-inch mod. The resolution and lowlight performance look great. I would definitely consider to buy it. ... show more

I got the first gen ONE for free as a white elephant gift during Christmas time 2 years ago. When i use it for the first time, (also that’s what all my friends were thinking) i thought i need to turn myself 360 degree in order to capture everything. But the thing is, you DON’T. You just need to hold it and walk around, and then it will capture everything and you can reframe the footage after the fact. I bring it to all my previous trips, and it was such a great product. And that’s why i ordered this second gen as soon as it comes out. It got a whole new design (like a gopro), but with way more features. One of my favorite is the short lab thing on their app. You can learn tricks to do creative & pro shooting with the app. Also the latest clone trails effect is very interesting. I wish i could post more images but because of the Covid situation i’m kind of stuck at home and when i start traveling again i will post new images then. ... show more

I purchased this camera right when it came out. Admittedly I was torn between the One X and the One R. I specifically wanted a 360 camera that supported live streaming. To my surprise, the One X supported live streaming but not the One R. Sadly I found that out AFTER my return period. Good news is Insta 360 finally updated the firmware to allow live streaming, but that happened after the event for which I purchased the camera. Why am I upset about this? The camera was marketed as being able to support live streaming, but the initial firmware release didn't support it. Connecting the camera and setting up a live stream through lets say zoom wasn't possible and the support around live streaming was non-existent. I'd love to say this camera was one of the best purchases I could have made, however at this point for the cost it's basically a glorified paperweight. ** Pros ** The picture quality is fairly good, and the editing process is super easy, so its easy for beginners. Modularity of the camera (swap lens), allows you make the camera what you need for various circumstances ** Cons ** Pretty much everything else. The software application is slow and clunky to work with. Editing is fairly easy once in a video, but its extremely annoying navigating the app at all times because the connection between phone and camera is slow (connected using iPhone 11 Pro, Samsung 8+, Samsung 9+, Samsung Note 10+). The camera cost just over $500 at the time I purchased it, so needless to say, I expected a much better experience. Because of the lack of functionality for live streaming I ended up not using the camera at all. Purchased a protective case and tucked the camera away. Now months later, I take the camera out of the protective case and proceeded to try and use it. That buggy app I told you about...yeah its back in full affect. Honestly, I figured the app had to improved after months of waiting for the software to catch up to the what I thought was good hardware, but nope. Same ol crappy app. After multiple app updates and updating to the latest firmware, I finally connected my phone (currently iPhone 11 Pro), and realized immediately I can no longer preview photos or cameras from my cell phone while connected to the camera. That's basically the entire point of of some of these devices. Interesting enough I can still initiate a photo/video from my phone. Adding more insult to injury I noticed the camera don't always take the photo (even though it plays the shutter sound so I know the connection between phone and camera is fine). If you think that's bad, it gets even worse...after realizing the camera wasn't taking my photos consistently, I turned the camera around to inspect the camera and imagine my surprise when I read the following error message "The Lend Mode is disconnected. Please check the connection between the core and Lens Mod, and restart to try again". After multiple restarts, clearing cache, resets, and all of the above, I'm sure this camera is pretty much done for after maybe 10 uses and that's being generous. Pretty much a glorified paperweight. On top of that, the support has been pretty terrible. I wish I would have kept the messages about the lack of support regarding live streaming. Waste of $500. Should have went Go Pro. In short, if your reading this...hopefully I can save you the shame of dropping basically a small fortune on a camera that likely won't hold up (barely used mine). I essentially took a baby stack of money and lit a fire to it. Implore you to look elsewhere for better quality and better support for the money! I would love to comment on other things like stability control or anything else, but sadly my camera is done, never hit the ground, never wet, nothing...pretty much lived and died in its case.
