This log splitter is Nice, Its built strong and the finish on it is great. It also can hold a good size log, about 8in I looked at a lot of log splitters (kindling splitter) and they were about 4 to 5 in ID, and made out of round still. This is solid iron.     • Kindling splitter
The hardened steel wood splitter requires assembly and held together with screws. All of the screw mounting holes are accurately drilled and slotted making assembly relatively easy. The splitter is smaller than I anticipated and with the splitting blade below the level of the top rails one will need to cut firewood shorter than normal in order to use the splitter. I am going to experiment with building a base with an opening on the bottom to accommodate longer log pieces. If it does not work, I will have to re-cut all of my firewood logs. If your logs and or you don't mind cutting your logs to fit, this should be a good option for your log splitter. ... show more

It was easy to assemble once it was unwrapped. I was able to split several small logs into nice size pieces to start a fire. Getting 4 pieces each time is a nice feature of this splitter. The blades are plenty sharp. I'm looking forward to some better weather in the spring to start using it more often. ... show more

    • A very good design, strong steel, but some flaws too.
This type of splitter is a great improvement over a splitting maul and wedge, but this one has a few problems in both the manufacturing and the instructions. The instructions say that it is cast steel. Fortunately , that is not true--It is welded steel plate which is much tougher (i.e. less brittle) than a casting. The blade covers are a good idea for protection from sharp edges, but they won't stay on. That doesn't matter much because the blades aren't sharp and can't readily be sharpened once the unit is assembled. The so-called 'sharp' edges on my unit had flat tips about 1/16 in. (1 to 2 mm) wide. This is too much for the sharpening tool provided. I took this splitter to the family's cabin to try out. I must now disassemble it, bring it to my shop, and sharpen all three edges using a bench grinder or a narrow belt sander. once this is done the dressing stone will probably be enough to maintain the edges. I expect that the ease of use will also improve once it is sharp. I'll revise this review once I know. ... show more

This splitter is well made and works well. It was easy to assemble and it includes extra bolts and a hex tool. The metal welds are clean and everything is well painted. The splitter is sturdy, but I would have preferred that the top and bottom rings were a little thicker. This product also includes gloves, an edge sharpening tool, and a cover. ... show more

    • A better way to split wood for a pizza oven
This makes splitting wood for our pizza oven much easier and safer. Almost effortless. Just make sure you mount this to something solid so it does not tip over. Also, note that it does not come sharpened, so you will need to do that before you start splitting wood, but don't worry it comes with everything you need to do that. ... show more

    • Good for splitting small logs
Assembly goes pretty quickly. It comes with a two sided sharpening stone, gloves, and a cover. I guess the cover is a good idea if you can’t find a shoebox sized space to store it. I used a 4 lb hammer and split a smaller previously cut log just to try it out. I intend to use it to chop down a few logs to they fit into my outdoor “Solo” type stove. It went pretty well. It would go a lot better with a real sledge hammer. You won’t get a really large log into this thing but if you want to live your dream of being a lumber jack and don’t want to have to go out into the wilds of the great unknown, this is for you. ... show more

    • Built solid and works like a charm
I'm gonna keep this in the house for my wood stove, splitting smaller pieces up to make getting fires started much easier. A good couple strikes with a mallet and you're good to go. Built very solid, expect to have this last a good long while.
