  • Slowly watching the water build in the filter, not in my tools
Installed with a ARO regulator & lubricator. I'll run this line for an hour or so, 90 PSI and ~3cfm average and watch all kinds of water condense onto the walls of the filter. Works well (In that my oiler isn't getting milky anymore), easy to drain, both with a spring loaded stopper on the bottom, and the ability to remove the entire drain cup. I'm not sure how well this is getting the smaller amounts of dissolved water, as a hobbyist running air tools. I'm just happy seeing water in the filter and not on the output of my tools. The IR bracket for these is way overpriced. Built my own to hold the three devices together. Each has a small indent on the side a steel shelf fit in to hold the pieces in place (see photo). ... show more

  • Quality product
Nice unit, just installed for a few days and noticed it is collecting water vapor as it should when the bleed valve is depressed. I've used larger ARO brand products in the past for water separation with excellent results, this unit is no different, just smaller. Though it is rated for 150-psi, installed downstream of the regulator and shut off valve where it will usually be at about 90-psi. Also unable to find ARO filters/parts as the standard 5-micron filter may become restrictive over time in a high-flow application, the 10-micron filter is more suitable for my application. For this unit, Ingersoll Rand's catalog lists all the replacement parts/filters but may be difficult to find and probably cost prohibitive (replacement parts/filters cost more than the unit) even though this is a popular size using 1/4" NPT fittings. I guess most just replace the entire unit when needs any servicing or they last a real long time. When that occurs, I'll install a larger unit for a minimal cost increase having readily replaceable parts/filters, higher capacity and longer run time between maintenance intervals. ... show more

  • Well designed, high quality, well built and an amazing deal!
Amazing well constructed. The body is aluminum; the bowl is polycarbonate so you can see through it yet it is strong enough to be rated at 150 psi. The bowl guard is nylon which is far superior to most plastics. The filter eliminates particles down to 5 microns. Note that the bowl capacity is only 1/2 ounce but that is adequate for a small compressor for most situations. The filter itself is very compact even for a 1/4" filter and has an extremely well thought out design and appearance. It is a bargain at Amazon's price under $20. I researched the ones available at my local Lowes, Home Depot and other stores. None compare to the quality of this one. If Amazon also sells an Ingersoll Rand 1/2" unit I now intend to buy one for my larger compressor along with another one of these. Amazing Amazon Deal! ... show more

  • no user manual or installation manual,
Size: 3/8" NPT
Would have been nice if a user/install manual was included. How do you empty the bowl? How do you mount the unit? Detailed instructions are supposed to be available on-line at fluids.ingersollrand.com, but there is nothing available there for this model. I believe I found the mounting bracket; looks like it is ARO 104408. Would have been good if this was included or at least noted as an item that can be purchased separately. ... show more

  • They work, but feel like toys
I bought this and the matching pressure gauge. These are used on my garage compressor. They weren't purchased with heavy use in mind. But I was surprised at how small and toy-like they are. They work, but I'll be replacing with something better.

  • Inlet and outlet are not interchangeable
This air dryer/filter works great, and I see significantly less water vapor through my tools. The only thing of note is that the inlet, as you face the front of the dryer, is on the left, and the outlet on the right. The way my compressor is set up (and I wanted to have this mounted on the compressor, not the wall), I had to face the front of the filter towards the compressor which makes it a little harder to empty of water. All similar products I could find seem to mostly share this directional aspect and have the inlet and outlet on the same sides as this product. Just a minor disadvantage if you are using a set up like an Ingersoll GarageMate compressor like I am. ... show more

  • Seems like a well made part
Size: 1/2" NPT
Seems like a well made part.I like the heft of the thing. Good size bowl to collect water and easy to clear it out. I have my compressor outside so I am a little worried about the grey plastic lower section deteriorating over time. My biggest complaint is no bracket to hold the thing up. Yes you can make one but what the heck, raise the price by ten cents and give us a bent piece of steel bracket to support the thing. I would even be ok if that part was knocked out in china. Ok done with rant, buy it if you want a quality part, if you want junk buy a foreign knockoff. ... show more

  • How does it work?
This filter came with no instructions whatsoever. There is nothing about it that seems to open or otherwise allows the user to remove a filter when it gets dirty or wet. The manufacturer was quite helpful in trying to find some set of instructions which may have been missing from the package, but there are none and Ingersoll Rand was unable to be of any help. I have it connected to a small compressor, and have used it several times, but there is no indication whether it is or is not working. I have to assume that if I see moisture building up in the chamber, I will have no choice but to throw it away and look for another filter made by another manufacturer. I have a Porter Cable filter on my 60 gallon 3/8 in. compressor that has a stop cock on the bottom that lets air run through and blow out any moisture that has collected inside. However, I can't find another, as it seems that Porter Cable no longer makes filters (that I have been able to find). So, I guess that I can't really recommend this filter. ... show more
