  • Thing thing is amazing, so quite almost makes you think it won't work Thing thing is amazing, so quite almost makes you think it won't work
Style: 15QMAX - 3/8" Ultra-Compact Impact Wrenc... Pattern Name: Impactool
This thing compliments the IR 1/2" impact so well. Love my 1/2" figured after 16 years of wrenching it was time for me to finally get a 3/8 impact and I'm glad I went with Ingersoll. Coworkers all have snapon and matco. I didn't feel like a 3/8 was worth the 400-600. This lil guy is as powerful as both snap on and matco but 80% quieter even my coworkers want one and when I told them it was only 150 they didn't believe me. Plus this thing is almost too quite. My electric impact is louder. Definitely worth every penny for a great known brand ... show more

  • Works for me
Style: 15QMAX - 3/8" Ultra-Compact Impact Wrenc... Pattern Name: Impactool
I was looking for a stubby impact for dash work and bought this one because it's similar to my IR2131 that I have been using for 15 years without a problem. The trigger control is sensitive which is great. When comparing the 15QMAX to my buddies' Cornwell 2138 3/8 stubby (as well as the 1/2" Aircat 1055), the IR was not as loud and took a little longer to remove lug nuts from a 3/4 ton axle but I won't be using it for that. When compared to the IR Tit. 2115, the QMAX is not as loud, 1" shorter and slightly thicker but had a cheaper price. I chose the QMAX because it was light, quiet, and hopefully the quality will match my 2131. I have been using it for a month and have pulled about 10 dashes so far and am happy with it. ... show more

Style: 15QMAX - 3/8" Ultra-Compact Impact Wrenc... Pattern Name: Impactool
IR comes through again. This stubby has the ergonomics, fit & finish, and smooth high-quality feel & NVH that I've come to expect from my 2131qt and 2235qtiMAX impacts. The only reason for 4 stars is that when I shop for a stubby, I'm probably buying it to get into the tightest, tiniest places possible, and this guy is larger in every dimension than my 1/2" Astro 1822. Now, I bought this to replace an el-cheapo 3/8" long-nose airgun, so that wasn't a particular concern in my case, but be aware of that when you're comparing. (This 3/8" 15QMAX is both *far* quieter and lighter in weight than the Dewalt 3/8" I'm replacing or the screamer Astro stubbies, so, tradeoffs) ... show more

  • 15max, Just what you would expect from IR
Style: 15QMAX - 3/8" Ultra-Compact Impact Wrenc... Pattern Name: Impactool
Other reviews seemed confusing or contradicting so I'll lay out the facts and what I observed with this gun (the 3/8 drive 15 max). First off yes, unfortunately the gun is made in China unlike most IR products, but the quality, construction and feel of the gun is comparable to my other USA made IR tools. The gun I received does not leak whatsoever, so if yours does just send it back to amazon and get a new one; it's defective.. For my test I use a 3/8" x 50' rubber airline with no leaks, and 1/4" NPT V-type air fittings. 3hp 30 gal compressor running 100 psi in the line. Oiled the gun with standard air tool oil as soon as I took it out of the box. I used a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts on my truck to see what the limit of breakaway torque this gun will make. The lug nuts are 9/16" -18 clean, rust free, dry threads and 3/4" hex nuts. Using a deep impact 3/8" drive 3/4" socket and no extension I found that the limit of this gun is between 154 and 158 ft lbs of breakaway torque on that specific size of lug nut. I tried multiple times and multiple nuts, and it consistently would not loosen bolts torqued to 160 lb ft and would always loosen torqued to 150 lb ft. 155 lb ft is 50/50. When tightening the lugs until the gun completely stopped turning the nuts came out to between 120-130 ft lbs tight. You might think that's not even close to the advertised torque, but the manufacturer torque ratings are always some made up number in a specific test to make the gun perform as best as possible, with no real standard. Either way, that's more than enough torque for most real world applications like brake, suspension and under the hood work. This should not be your main gun by any means, but it is a specialty tool for tight spaces and does exceptionally well at that. It's also very cheap for an IR tool... Only ~$30 more than the harbor freight earthquake? Maybe I'm biased to the brand, but it seems like a no brainier to me. Earthquake might last 10 years, IR will outlive you. ... show more

  • Not as powerful as advertised
Style: 15QMAX - 3/8" Ultra-Compact Impact Wrenc... Pattern Name: Impactool
Definitely not what I expected, the size makes it great but the power settings are backwards when put in reverse which makes it more stuff to move when you're already limited in space. I tried two put and they couldbt get a drain plug loose pff an Allison transmission. I'm really disappointed because IR is a reutable brand. ... show more

  • Well worth the money!
Style: 15QMAX - 3/8" Ultra-Compact Impact Wrenc... Pattern Name: Impactool
In comparison to the previous IR titanium. Noticeably shorter from back of housing to tip of anvil. A little bulkier around the housing. A lot quieter. Slightly more powerful. Fed with appx 140 psi shop air, its seems to hit about 20ft/lb harder. Even if it's not used as your primary 3/8 gun, for the price, it's worth having in your box. Its length will get you into places only reached by air ratchets before. Must have for heavy line or trans r&r's. ... show more

  • Best price I ever got on such a great tool.
Style: 15QMAX - 3/8" Ultra-Compact Impact Wrenc... Pattern Name: Impactool
Ingersoll-Rand has been a leader in air tools for decades, and is still one of the most prominent brands in the world. I have 7 Ingersoll products that are more than 20 years old and still work as well as they day I bought them. I take very good care of my tools, but i am a Master Mechanic by trade and I use them heavily. This particular Impact gun is very short, yet still very strong at 380FT/TQ. on the tool trucks you can expect to pay upwards of $280 for these guns in my area, Glad I checked prices on Amazon when I finally got tired of my 22 year old MAC 3/8 gun that only has 90FT/TQ and is 3 inches longer (Time to upgrade). This stubby little gun gets into so many more places than I ever thought an impact gun this strong would ever fit, life is now a bit easier with all the transmission work I do. You can not beat the deal on this impact gun on Amazon anywere, ... show more

  • Not strong enough
Style: 15QMAX - 3/8" Ultra-Compact Impact Wrenc... Pattern Name: Impactool
Not as strong as expected. Don't use it much because it doesn't brake bolts like on brake calipers. Good enough for small jobs but for that a Milwaukee works better.
