  • Blasphemous Fun
This album is criminally underrated. Despite it being out since 2013, & most anyone getting Ghost vinyl at this is just a collector nerd like I am, I am still compelled to review it. My review-it slams. It has a weird, almost trippy quality to it that makes Satanism even more fun. Ain't a dud on here, plus it features the unstoppable monster tune Year Zero! The vinyl also helps complete my Ghost wall, & that alone makes it worth it. All Hail Papa! ... show more

  • Kick ass
I'm typically a black metal guy, but Ghost is pretty evil (in my case, this is a good thing!)...at least the albums up to here! Not extremely rough, and as a dutch friend once put it "it's goth ABBA." I think that encapsulates the entire feel. Love the blasphemy, enjoy the spooky. A great time, and if you've never listened to it, what are you doing? ... show more

  • A worthy follow-up....
I'm not going to spend time beating a dead horse about how great their first album was. Instead I'm going to write about how great THIS album is! It appears (so far) that people either love it, hate it or think it falls short compared to their first album. I think it surpasses their first album. The new album is Ghost becoming Ghost. The first album had a bunch of great, catchy songs. But Infestissumam is the direction I was hoping Ghost would take. If I were to describe this album to someone unfamiliar with the band I would tell them to imagine if Rosemary's Baby was a play performed inside a circus where everyone was tripping on LSD and then you might have an idea what to expect. Everything has been improved upon. The sound, the multi-layered and complexity of the songs creates the ideal atmosphere for the listener. Some songs do take a little longer to grow on you than others but the entire album is good. Definitely not a filler track to be found. And while the obvious choices for the first singles: Secular Haze & Year Zero are excellent I feel the real gems are Ghuleh/Zombie Queen & Monstrance Clock. I noticed many people refer to the opening track as comparable to the opening track from their first album. I disgree. Yes, it's the intro and yes it's an instrumental but I feel it picks up where Genesis left off...and I see a concept even bigger than ONE album which I'll get to in a minute. Other highlights for me are Per Aspera Ad Inferi and Depth of Satan's Eyes. Both are very gothic, sinister and charming. This is where Black Metal/Death Metal whatever the hell it's called these days fails. When you start off screaming your @$$ off and playing as fast as humanly possible right out of the gate with no direction you lose your appeal. Where do you go from there? There's no atmosphere, no melody, no imagination required. So when people complain Ghost isn't heavy enough to be playing Satanic music I chuckle to myself. Because all that "noise" being made from other bands just gives me a headache. Ghost lures you in and seduces you...with melody, hypnotic flow, trance-like choruses...so if someone wants to turn me to the dark side Ghost would be the band to do it. Heavy-ness is not satanic, sorry. Deception is...and that is what Ghost does best. I also feel like their influences are showing through on this album more than ever before. While I agree you can hear bits and elements of bands like Mercyful Fate, Black Sabbath, Boston and B.O.C...their main influences The Beach Boys and The Doors really come through on Infestissumam. I'm really looking forward to the next album now. I think I see a pattern here. The first album was a warning of the coming of seed. Their second album is the arrival/birth...and I can only imagine and hope their third album deals with the consequences of this birth...and it's growth. But whatever, I'm definitely gonna be along for the ride. So, yeah, this is like my opinion...and everybody has one. Hail Ghost! ... show more

  • If by "Metal" you mean Good music then this is "Metal"
I could care less if this doesn't fit your definition of "Metal" music, but to me it IS Metal. Furthermore I recommend this album to any true Metal fan out there with an open mind and who doesn't get sucked in by "labels". I love Metal, but I don't live in a box and limit myself to listening only to bands that play fifty drum beats per second and the vocalist sings like Cookie Monster in every song. That's fine, I can dig that kind of "Metal" too (In small doses). Nothing wrong with the Hard Core bands. All I'm saying is- don't get hung up on the fact that this album and it's predecessor (Opus Eponymous) are a slightly different kind of "Heavy Metal" that harkens back to the early day's before the term "Metal" was even coined. These guys are freaking awesome and you are doing an injustice to yourself if you ignore their music. Ok, so about the whole "Satanic" aspect...The first album "Opus Eponymous" is a whole lot about the devil, concepts of evil, etc...etc., more importantly we are introduced to some vile power that is intent on taking over the world somehow and the conception of the Anti-Christ begins with the first album.(Not actually a concept album, just kind of worked out that way). This album, "Infestissumam", continues the "story" and it heralds the arrival of the Anti-Christ here on Earth, living among us, calling the world to him. (I'm pretty sure the Catholic Church thinks these guys ARE the "anti-Christ"). No matter what you believe in, these guys come off to me as pretty tongue-in-cheek and yet esoteric with the satanic theatrics.(like dressing up as the "Black Pope" and a group of monks) I doubt they are the devil incarnate (but I can't rule it out either). All I know is some of the songs lyrics can really mess with your head. Listening to a Ghost album is like watching "Rosemary's Baby" or some other creepy movie that involves the devil and religion...but it's only a show people, all in fun and done to entertain you, nothing more. And these guys do entertain, there's nothing boring here. Check them out, join the growing masses who are already swaying to the sound of the Monstrance Clock. ... show more
