I wasn't expecting this handmade instrument to play so well. It plays almost the same as the factory-made lower-keyed Irish tin whistles. I use the exact same music and the same playing style as I do with my Irish tin whistles and the low whistles. I say that this "Indian Glance Traditional Wooden Flute" from India is appropriate for any age. I could have learned on this handmade 6-hole flute instead of on the Irish Tin Whistles manufactured in a factory. You use the breath control as you do for the low whistles. I purchased these for my kids (one is 3 and one is 11). The one for my 3 year old didn't fully work. U could blow into it (which was fine with her) but the other sound holes didn't work. The other works, just takes a little harder breath. Doesn't sound too bad. I would've sent 'em back but my kids are happy. They look beautiful. The carving are great. These are not instruments. They are decorated hollow sticks with holes in them. I know how to play wooden flutes - these are not flutes at all. It's barely possible to get even one or two scratchy "notes" out of them. Find another flute - don't waste your money on these.
