  • Considering new studio monitors - try this first!
Style: ARC Studio
I have a project studio (one half shown in photos) in a rental apartment so am a bit limited as to modifications that can be made for acoustic treatment; the room is very minimally treated and I knew some of its problems already. The room correction results I was able to get using the IK Multimedia ARC Studio v4 are quite impressive for my monitoring system (Heritage Audio RAM System 2000, Mackie HRS10 Sub and HR624mkII monitors). Currently, I have limited the range of the correction to the HR624s from about 53Hz to 16kHz, but once you have taken all the measurements (takes around 10 minutes for 21 points - very simple) it's very easy to change frequency ranges and target curves; the resulting sound is incredible given my room and monitoring system. Is it perfect - no - but given the starting point it's tremendously better; I think this is evidenced in the before and after graphs, but the graphs don't do justice to just how much better the resulting sound is; sound stage and separation are drastically increased, lows tightened, mids evened out and vocals have become much clearer. Should you purchase it? While there is no substitute for a well treated room - $300 (the cost of the ARC system) is probably not going to get you very far in traps, diffusers, absorbers, etc. (even if you DIY) - and your room will still have problems; so, for my use cases and budget it was definitely worth a try. I think that it will be my best studio purchase of 2024. Perhaps it will be yours also? ... show more

  • Really helps me make accurate mixes. There's noting like it for anywhere near the proce.
Style: ARC Studio
Before you start, make sure you have your monitor speakers located properly. They include a guide to help with this. Go through the process carefully, using the supplied calibration mic. NOTE: The mic requires phantom power - supplied by virtually all DAW interfaces. Be sure you turn it on. I did the longer setup (didn't take THAT long...). After all, we want to get the most from our investment! An A-B comparison with and without the correction reveals a definite difference: Listening is less fatiguing and feels more transparent. Be aware that you should have at least decent speakers to start with. My Behringer 3021A Truth monitors aren't bad to begin with, so the corrected results were quite impressive. NOTE: You should have your speakers in a close monitoring arrangement, especially in a less-than-optimal room. In the good news/bad news dept: The calibration data is loaded into a box that connects between your interface output and your powered monitor inputs. This is mostly great, in that ALL of your computer audio sources will benefit from the correction. The downside of this arrangement is that you'll have to do another calibration if you wnat to use the ARC system in, say, another studio. Apparently, there's no way to save multiple calibrations, so when you move back to your home studio, you'll have to redo the calibration process. Still, it's a great system. ... show more

  • Excellent results and well worth the cost
Style: ARC Studio
This works great and is an excellent value. I was previously using Sonarworks systemwide. After I moved, Sonarworks did not want to cooperate taking new measurements. With ARC the measurements are fairly quick and easy, just make sure you have a mic stand handy. The results really cleaned up the sound in my studio. I had used an older version of ARC but didn't like that it was plug-in only. ARC studio solves that problem. I installed it before my monitor controller and then saved multiple sets of measurements for my various monitors. This is a very cost effective hardware solution. ... show more

  • Breathes new life into vintage speakers
Style: ARC Studio
I'm using the Arc Studio in a home environment, not a studio. It wasn't obvious to me from reviews that I needed a separate USB audio interface for my laptop to connect the microphone which requires 48v phantom power. Reviews seem to gloss over this, probably because these interfaces are common place in a studio. Luckily I had a cheap audio mixer that worked out. Also fortunate my DAC and amp also happen to have XLR connectors, so it was easy to slip this inline. I'm using vintage Klipsch Heresey I speakers. They are a 3 way horn speaker with 12" woofer. They've been recently re-capped and I love their sound, but I knew they roll the highs off early. After the room correction was applied, it felt like a blanket had been lifted off of them. The 3db tweeter roll-off before correction was around 9kHz, after correction it was pushed out to about 14kHz. Amazing improvement. Seems most speakers on the market use a 6" or 8" woofer, I'm happy to have the punch of my large speakers, and also have the clarity of newer DSP'd speakers on the market. Best of both worlds. The room correction kinda neutered the bass, the flat default profile was a bit too flat for me, but I was able to edit the profile and bring back some of the midbass punch. This is the best $300 I've spent for my audio setup. Especially if you love large format vintage speakers, this breathes new life into them. ... show more

  • Highly recommended if you don’t have a fully treated room.
Style: ARC Studio
Overall it wasn’t too difficult to set up. Just takes a little patience. I will say customer support needs some work. I had questions but they didn’t really have definitive answers but I ended up figure out. Once I installed I had to do a search on my computer to find and run the analysis as I couldn’t find a shortcut anywhere. I still can’t get it to change to 48k so I went back to 44.1 (which isn’t a huge deal for me for me) I do recommend doing the 21 point test. I have to say my room was seriously inaccurate bass wise so this has honestly been a game changer and my stuff is translating much better. It’s worth it overall and I would buy it again. ... show more
