    • Modified Beverage Dispenser Gave Me a Wort!

Not having the money for proper equipment, a few homebrew websites/forums had DIY instructions for turning this type of dispenser into a vessel to steep my mash and make a wort. For those who haven’t ventured into making beer, all that means is that I replaced the spigot with a better one that attached to a strainer type thing I put inside the igloo. A mix of ground grains were tossed in and it was then filled with 165 degree Fahrenheit water. It sat for an hour and the resulting liquid (wort) let out into another container to have more things done and eventually become beer. Did this hold temperature? Close enough. I believe more hot water had to be added to bring the temperature up again once, but it lost no more than 20 degrees over the hour. More importantly than numbers is that it made an acceptable wort to make beer with. I still have it and haven’t made beer for a while. I’m sure it still would work, but it is a process. Maybe I saved money by not buy a bunch of beer making equipment I’d stop using, or perhaps the process involved with not having proper equipment has kept me from continuing. Either way, it is possible with this, the end result was a delicious success, and it unfortunately seems to disappear quicker than it is made. ... show more

Great cooler for many uses. From storing cans of pop or beer to using it for lemonade or water. And can be used in the winter to store food in outside if the power goes out. Something most don't realize the origins of why coolers were made. We had no problems with shipping or handling of this product and it came packaged properly and delivered to us in a timely fashion. We would recommend this Igloo 10 gallon cooler to our friends, family and co-workers and to anyone who is seeking a cooler for their next sporting or family get together. We were not paid nor discounted in any way, shape or form for giving our honest opinion here of this product as a review to assist others. I drink a ton of water and I like it really cold. So I was concerned what I would do when I went car camping for the first time. This was absolutely perfect. I put in two 20lb bags of ice and dumped a bunch of water in there. In a Texas summer the water stayed ice cold for two days before we went ahead and added more ice. Updated 2/23/21: This cooler was purchased to be used in beer making as a mash tun. The vendor shipped in the original thin, single-layer cardboard box which was pretty beat-up on receipt. Some corners were burst, and there was a severe wrinkle in one corner as if something heavy had crushed the box. However there were no holes, so it was assumed the cooler was undamaged. When unpacked, it was properly constructed and essentially appeared undamaged, but found to have a bulge in the liner near the spout and a corresponding crease on the exterior. This bulge would not affect its use as a water cooler, but did prevent the false bottom for brewing from properly fitting in the bottom. It is suspected that the internal insulation may have also been compressed or damaged. The item was sent back. Purchasing online without inspection is not recommended for beer brewing applications. Be sure to inspect the received product carefully for damage. Packing for shipping was well below standard. ... show more
