Features

  • POWER UPGRADE - Actively detects and removes unwanted electrical noise introduced by noisy stock wall warts or plugs to provide a steadier and more reliable direct current to your device, including turntables, media streamers, phono stages, routers, DACs, audio interfaces, and even LED lighting for studio photos
  • QUIET COMFORT - Enjoy clear audio and more defined digital video with the iPower's Active Noise Cancellation, technology derived from military applications that acts similarly to noise cancelling headphones by measuring and inverting the signal from your power supply to create a super quiet noise floor and to filter out spurious frequencies introduced by common household equipment that would interfere or muddy your entertainment experience
  • UNIVERSAL TRAVEL ACCESSORY - Packaged with 4 different plug adapters that easily snap on so you can take it with you and use it anywhere in the world, including the UK, Europe and Asia, compatible with global AC voltages ranging from 100 to 240 volts
  • VARIETY OF VOLTAGES AVAILABLE - iFi offers the iPower in 5V, 9V, 12V, and 15V versions to provide power options for many of the most common audiophile equipment, such as a DAC, music streamer or router, or even a guitar pedal. • Not snake oil
I’m going to combine one review for two items, because they are related, and so I don’t have to write two separate reviews: 1) iFi Power Supply 2) WAudio W3900 Power Conditioner... After the usual audiophile tweaks to my mid-low system (Teac CD transport, SMSL DAC, Schiit Freya+, Parasound Power Amp, Focal Chorus), I decided to try some some power supply tweaks—knowing that it could improve sound, or could be snake oil. The iFi power supply arrived first, so before installing this, I played and listened to one of my favorite test tracks, then plugged in the Power Supply to my DAC... Lo and behold, the difference was significant, and I could easily hear that the low end became much more meaty and solid. I was surprised what an improvement there was! I couldn’t tell any high end difference, which was fine, as I feel my system was a bit top heavy (bright) anyways, so this change went in the correct direction. A few days later, the W3900 came in. I listened again to my test track again, then unplugged my entire system from a cheap surge protector, and plugged everything into the conditioner. Surprise: Again, the difference was not subtle. This time, the conditioner effected the sound in a different way. It focused all the sound instrument more coherently, causing a major improvement in imaging. It seemed to do this by clearing out what seemed like some low level music details that was scatttered/floating over the entire sound stage... leaving the music very clean, and focused positioning of the musical instruments within the stage... So both experiments turned out great! Then I decided to test out what a YouTube reviewer said about power conditioners being inherent “current limiters”, and hence will hurt power amplifier performance. So I selectively unplugged my power amp from the conditioner’s “filtered” section, and plugged it into the “unfiltered” section... BOOM, the music went less focused again! So, done, all my components will go through the conditioner’s filtered outlets. I’m a happy camper. My conclusion is that power supply tweaks are NOT snake oil with the following caveats: 1) That your speakers or room acoustics are not max’ed out—and still have the extra capacity to reveal any improvement tweaks. For instance, if your room acoustics are so bad that even if you improve real sound quality, the room has no capacity to reveal the improvement... then no matter how real the sound improvement you achieve, it will not show up in a room with bad acoustics. (In my experience, the two most important and significant sound tweaks are speak placement, and room acoustic treatments. After you get these two items settled, then go on to the smaller tweaks like cables, power supply, etc. 2) The second circumstance when a power supply tweak won’t show is if your system is super high-end and already optimized to the max. In this case, a small change in power supply will have no noticeable effect, and may even degrade the sound somewhat.... Other than these two conditions, I think you will have great results and fun playing with these power supply tweaks! ... show more

  • Nice tweak for a 2 channel system!
Size: 9V
It's rare to find many things out there that improve the sound of my system, but every once in awhile I stumble across something. I am a minimalist when it comes to two channel as most everything I try usually degrades the sound somewhat. My gear consists only of a digital source plugged directly into a vintage amp hooked up to B&W 805 speakers. I haven't used a preamp in a couple of years now and that was one of my biggest improvements I ever made. I'm also a bare wires (audioquest) kinda guy. My RCA's are from blue jeans cable (nothing exotic but these bested my expensive audioquest ones with better transparency. So, that's my practical system. My goal has always been to have a system sound as real and lifelike as possible. I went through about 15 amplifiers until I found one that had the sound I was looking for. I always found it difficult to find one that was super transparent without getting harsh on the top end. Many companies just roll off the top end rather than try to make it sound real. Anyways, on to the ipower plug. I bought this for my dac/source as an experiment to see if I noticed any difference. I do not have a power conditioner and I have noticed lately at my condo that in the evening time the treble would be harsher with some fuzziness or something. In the mornings or late at night it was gone and sounded perfect. But every time I played it from about 5-8pm the sound was degraded slightly. Nothing huge but I'm picky :) Once you get into this hobby you are always looking too... and though I wasn't expecting much improvement as my rig is already very clean and transparent, I was hoping for an improvement in the evening time listening as my theory was that those hours are prime time for electricity usage and I was probably getting some interference. So, I swapped this plug in and sat down on a Saturday morning with my usual songs to test and after the first song was done I noticed....nothing. Hmm, that was what I was expecting though, so I played a couple of guitar and cello songs so I could really listen to the strings and the texture and all that good stuff ;) Again I didn't notice anything, and I'm really familiar with the way everything sounds. I swapped the stock plug back in a couldn't tell any difference. After a couple hours I gave up and just listened to the stock plug and everything sounded great...until that evening, haha. Sure enough that night when I got home and went to listen again to the same songs I had tried earlier in the morning, the treble had a fuzziness to it. I hadn't turned anything off while I was gone not that it really matters in my system, but it definitely didn't sound as good as before. So I swapped the ipower back in to see if I was going to hit the jackpot here. After all, $50 is a pretty small price to pay for something that is going to magically clean the power. I sat down (again) and listened to the same songs with the ipower....and...each song sounded clean and the treble was perfect. Being as skeptical as I am however, I still swapped the original plug back into the dac. Fuzzy treble. Ipower back in and it's beautiful. It's now remained in for the last two weeks and I have never had a return of the grainy fuzzy high frequencies again in the evening time. Well, that's my review and experience with this product. I will say that I am sold on this product but only if you have some sort of dirty power or interference in the lines. As I noted above I couldn't hear a difference in the mornings or late at night but in the hours when everyone is home and using the most electricity in my condo complex then there was a total elimination of the noise I was hearing. Now, it makes me want to buy a power conditioner for the rest of my gear and plasma tv ;) Anyways, happy experimenting and tweaking! ... show more
