With back-to-school shopping in full swing this year, wired headphones are on everybody's list. We've ordered a few different brands from Amazon to move away from the flimsy sets we have bought in the last few years. Let's talk price point first. These headphones come in a pack of five, making them around six to seven bucks each. There are NO headphones in Wal-Mart or Target at those prices. The pair we ordered previous to these were Sony. You know, that $9.99 - $14.99 set you've probably already looked at. In previous years, Sony has always had a high-quality product, but in my photos, you can see the side-by-side comparison. Not only are iClever Kids headphones less expensive than Sony's inexpensive set, but they also have a thicker, higher-quality padding around the ears for hours of comfort. The Sony headphones sit ON TOP OF the shell of your ear, and they have that thin tissue paper crunchy feeling that rubs and irritates your kid's ears. iClever Kids headphones have a larger earpiece to sit AROUND your kid's ear. The headpiece feels more sturdy and better fitted overall. The winner is clear. Both my kids told me NO the moment they tried the Sony headphones on, but after trying on this set, they did nothing but argue over who gets what color. Even as an adult, these headphones fit my head and ears perfectly with no scrubbing or pinching, making them perfect for work. Let's move on to sound quality. The only thing Sony's cheap headset had going for it was the loudness. If you need a pair of headphones that will wake the dead or cover the sound of a NASCAR race, these iClever Kids headphones aren't going to do it. They have a softer volume than the Sony set, which would be great for little ears that don't need to turn it up to 11. Overall, these are the winning headphones for the school year!

Let's make something clear, right away. Assuming that these are still priced the same as when we ordered them ($45 but marked down to $33.99), it's a really good deal for a five-pack of headphones. But you shouldn't try to compare them to ALL headphones out there. Because clearly you've got cheapo five below type headphones, and then you've got the big name brand kinds that cost $50 to $99 per pair. So the rating that I'm giving these headphones, that's mostly based on the low price you're paying per pair (just north of six dollars each). When you consider that you're only paying that much per pair, then these are definitely five stars. Of course there are better headphones out there. Of course there are cooler-looking or themed headphones out there. But they also cost so much more than these will. We were just going for what would be adequate for school. It's required that she has two pairs of headphones. We didn't want her bringing her nicer headphones to school, for them to get lost or broken. But we also didn't want the super cheapo kind you find in a bin at the dollar store, that sounds like you're listening to a clock radio inside of a tin can. We just wanted something that would serve the main purpose needed at school. Plus have backup headphones available. These look nice, they're comfortable enough for her to wear, and the sound quality is more than sufficient for her school needs. I deliberately didn't choose the "colorful" series, because I thought those might be more likely to grow legs and walk off. The black ones with the colors on them still look nice, but not SO nice that we don't have to worry about another kid feeling the urge to "borrow" a pair and not return them. Need headphones for school? I don't think you'll go wrong ordering these.

My boys needed headphones for school. They had to be wired and ideally we wanted something that would not go in the ear to avoid the typical issues associated with ear buds. We also did not want to pay for super expensive brand name set as my boys are young and have a tendency to destroy things or leave things so they get taken. In the classroom they don't need the highest sound quality ever anyways so we picked up this 5 pack. It might seem silly to by 5 headphones but last year we went through 6 pairs. Some of that is due to lower quality and thus easier to break but the bigger reasons is because of the kids breaking them. Either dropping them, crushing them under books, throwing them around between uses, you name it. These are quite comfortable and the colors are a nice way to differentiate them from other people's headphones. They are reasonable quality and the sound is more than adequate for the kids needs. Are these as good as high end Bose or the like? No not even close but they also don't have that price tag. For our needs they are great.
