  • Fun way to play Gameboy games on an HDMI TV
Mine arrived with a sticker on the box letting me know it was already updated to the 1.2 firmware. There is some load time, ironically - considering that these are game cartridges. I found the load times on firmware 1.2 to be significantly less than I've seen in video reviews of older firmware versions, but it could be I just tested with smaller games. I didn't notice any issues with the Gameboy Color or Gameboy Advance games I've played. Of my collection of around 20 Gameboy Advance games, only "Konami Arcade Advanced" did not work. My friend's 200-in-1 game multi-cart also did not work. For the price, I was surprised at the solid controller quality, and delighted by the long controller cable. ... show more

  • All games do not work
Tried playing it with only game I had which was a GBA the Legacy of Goku II. Made it to second area with Gohan and got message, when it came to accessing the world map, game can not play on hardware. Was working great but bit disappointed....(Continued)........not all games work nor did they save correctly as well. ... show more

  • Nice little unit overall
First off I'll say I liked the packaging. Very nice presentation up front. Once it was all unboxed the unit is very nicely made and the controller has a pretty good feel to it. It was very easy to hook and and start playing. Knowing the GBA implementation was still in early stages I was a bit hesitant, but it played most of my GBA titles. I was disappointed it would not run Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. This was one of my titles I really wanted to play on the big screen. I look forward to another firmware update. ... show more

  • Wireless Controller Support Finally
Hyperkin seems to be their own worst enemy. I finally found the solution for wireless controllers - their own bluetooth adapter, the AlphaStar BT adapter. I first found a picture of a bluetooth adapter in the usb port of the Retron Sq on Hyperkin's web site. After some research I discovered (on their site and Amazon) that now they have listed the AlphaStar BT adapter as compatible with the Retron Sq with their own Scout and other bluetooth controllers. I finally tried the AlphaStar BT adapter and immediatly was able to connect a 8bitDo controller. I have ordered the Scout controller and it should work as well. Unfortunately most of these product are sold out or hard to find. I bought the AlphaStar adapter on Amazon for cheaper than the retail price of $19.99. Hope this helps some people out there whe wanted this info as I could not find any coverage on Youtube or the internet. Overall, the device does what it is supposed to do. Making it bluetooth compatible or giving buyers the info on the Alphastar would have been nice (from the get-go). ... show more

  • If you are buying for GBA games be careful
Let’s get the cat out of the bag. There are two major issues with this system one is the quality of emulation for GBA. It just doesn’t look great. I mean it is playable but I’ve find myself just pulling out an old handheld instead. only about 70% of my GBA carts work on this system. I do have some repo carts and plenty of proper carts. It is just a flip of a coin it it decides to work. The load time while it begins to emulate the cart is like an old school PS1 game. You will have time to make a bag of popcorn while it does it thing. Yep, I have other systems from this company and they all work great this one is just lack luster in comparison. It is all not just bad news. Set up is super easy. The build of console is very solid. The controller feel very natural and sturdy and cable is pretty long. Currently. I would recommend passing on this until they come out with a next generation of this system. ... show more

  • Just remember GB and GBC saves fine
I dug deep into this, read all I could about it before buying myself one and I love it. It has the latest patch installed that fixes issues so I was excited there. Not only that but I didn't expect to be able to save my gb and GBC games on the actual cartridge. But gba does save state's that's fine as long as you know how to get there with your keyboard I fully recommend this. ... show more

  • Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Won't Load
I understand that Gameboy Advance support is beta, and I ordered this unit after seeing some beta videos on YouTube showing the bad framerates on Gameboy Advance games, so I was expecting at least some slowdown, but not outright failure to load games. This unit failed to load Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (a game that would not be unplayable with a framerate drop) and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. These were the only two carts I have, and I'm afraid to buy more carts out of fear they won't work as well. After applying the Day 1 firmware update (1.1) Lord of the Rings Two Towers loaded, but performed with frame skipping. It is my hope that a firmware update will solve these problems, but I have to say it's a bit rough right out of the gate. ... show more
