First of all, this comment is for playing games in Japan. It is different from the evaluation in the United States, so please use it as a reference only. I used "FC COMBO HDMI made by Columbus Circle" sold in Japan. I was playing Famicom and Super Famicom, but it broke. I don't use it because I have an original machine, but this FC COMBO was mainly used by my family and friends in the living room. I immediately searched for the same thing, but I could not find it in Japan, but I could find it in the United States far away. Hyperkin's products are very luxurious! Japanese consoles imitate old ones and look very cheap. Hyperkin's products are precisely made. The "H mark" on the right side of the front glows blue, and the atmosphere is very good. The body is covered with transparent skin, proving that there is no omission in the contents. The weight is heavier than the original machine, and it does not move easily during play. You don't have to freeze when you get excited! The appeal of this console is that it supports HDMI. To use it in Japan, you need a "Japanese conversion adapter for Famicom" in the NES slot. (For FC To NES 60 Pin To 72 Pin Game card cartridge Adapter Converter) The only unfortunate part is that you have to use different controllers for each NES and SNES game. Works great. So far has worked with all of my original cartridges. Would like to try using a multicart and the hyperkin zap gun but haven't yet. Two minor complaints, the build quality could be a little better. Mine had some leftover hairs from the plastic molding process that could end up in the pin slots. Another minor complaint is the pressure on the cartridge, it seems to be difficult to insert and has a death grip on them. Minor because the pins do feel very high quality and make a good connection. Hopefully they will loosen over time. Overall its great and my games have never looked better on my HDTV. ... show more

Great quality! Nicely packaged! Bought this to play some custom Pokémon games for the SNES & it works perfect! The HDMI output and 720 is amazing! Update for 2022/2023: Still using it, got the hd3 too. Still great. For the average person looking for a super nintendo on a flat panel t.v. this system is great. The nes side not so much. It works but has noticible input latency. The snes doesn't have that input latency problem. I noticed too that the controller feels improved over the gray scout controller the buttons are softer and feel extremely nice. My new favorite controller. I have the super nt as well and sometimes actually prefer playing on this unit cause I like the saturated colors. Image is sharp but not too sharp like an emulator. More like a real system on an old t.v. I have also tried it on my c.r.t. and though it works fine there is a slight flckering as if it's interlaced. If you are looking for a crt replacement system I would go with the superboy sfc. It looks and plays as good if not better then a real unit. The retron 2 hd is also not an emulator system like the retron 5. It's a clone system. ... show more

Pro: Tried it with a dozen or so cartridges, all seem to work well enough. Cons: 1) Controls feel a little sloppy. I'm not sure if it's due to the controls that come with the unit, or just latency with the HD TV (set in game mode). 2) The colors are not accurate to the original. This is the worst thing about it - the original SMB looks really muddy and ugly compared to an original NES. 3) I did have to reinsert cartridges a few times (and the pins had already been cleaned with IPA). Other: One third-party cartridge I had wouldn't fit in the NES slot - the case is constructed to too-tight tolerances and the cartridge just *barely* could not fit in the unit. I bought some modelling files and filed down the tiny angled areas on the cartridge slot ever so slightly and it works fine after that. If I were going to do it again, I probably wouldn't purchase this. It's okay, but not worth the price given that the inaccurate colors and loose controls really break the illusion that you're playing an original NES/SNES in HD. ... show more

I have both an original NES and a SNES still from when I was a kid and fun as they are they're worn out from years of use. Enter Hyperkin... The Graphics seem upgraded in HDMI and the Quality of the Console is amazing! I'm thrilled with the much longer Cords, so I do not have to worry about pulling the Console when playing and do not have to sit so close to the TV. The Controllers are also comfortable and have great response. The Limited Edition Space Black Console looks cool. It's a bit tight on the NES Cartridge side but does work and is nothing to worry about. I'd buy it again if I had the option to go back in time. ... show more
