I’ve used Hurtta harnesses for many years so when I was preparing to get a puppy thought I’d purchase another. But the “Y” harnesses were nowhere to be found, not even on their site. Now that puppy is mostly full grown I looked again to see if anyone else was selling something similar. LO and behold, the Hurtta “Y” harnesses are back and even sold here! The only thing I hesitated about were the plastic slide in buckles as I have arthritis which makes them difficult. But I purchased one in cinnamon color for my black Sheltie to try anyway. Well, this new design is improved! The buckles are redesigned to be super easy to open and close. In addition there are now 2 buckles for the wrap around girth so your dog does not have to step in as they did before when there was just 1 buckle. The only thing the dog has to deal with is it slipping over their head, which you can teach by dropping some treats on the ground as you pull it over. I’m sure this is going to last a lifetime! Note, I love the “Y” harness for a Sheltie! It allows complete shoulder movement without rubbing and the single chest strap allows their big furry rough to fall to both sides rather than getting compressed by a wide chest piece. ... show more

Have tried many styles of harnesses and haven't found one they can't slip out of yet. I thought this one was working until one of the dogs simply shrugged out of it one day and looked at me like "Look what I can do!" It is more escape proof when used with their Hurtta Razzle Dazzle mid-layer coat underneath. When it is too warm for jackets, this one is no exception to all the other harnesses we have tried, however it is built for comfort and durability so we go with it. Possibly cinching it down a bit tighter might help, but with young dogs I don't want to make them uncomfortable. Fortunately my dogs aren't too intent on escaping, but they can roll their shoulders and throw this off if we have an disagreement about how fast we should be moving along from that fascinating scent. ... show more

Its hard to find a similar style harness small enough for my dog. Also, many padded dog harnesses are too bulky or heavy for my toy breed. This one is the best one I found. The problem I have is that the neck loop is not adjustable. My dog has very big ears. She has used over the head harnesses without problems before but this one catches on her ears when I take it off. It is definitely too small to slide off comfortably. However it is also a bit too big when she is wearing it around her neck. As you can see in my picture, I added a buckle on the neck loop. It is black unlike the original gray ones. I also made the loop a bit smaller so it would fit better. The chest ring now rests on the chest bone like it should. The green on the waist loop is armpit padding I added. Since my dog usually lags behind she needs the armpit padding in case we pull her forward. If the harness originally had these things I would have given it 5 stars. It really is a nice harness. ... show more

9-30-22 we have two Bluetick Coonhounds. Rocky weighs about 62lbs with a neck of 19” and chest at 29”. I will post another update after more use.

I tried this harness in 2 sizes, went by the dog's measurements for the first one and way too small. I tried the next size up but the harness fit badly, this seems like it would be a nice harness, but it needs both neck and chest adjustments. Sent both back, just didn't fit my dog..
