  • Moves Some Serious Air — Best Bang for Your Buck
Size: 1 Pack Color: White
I picked up the Hurricane 20" box fan during a heat wave when my AC couldn't keep up, and honestly, I wasn't expecting much for the price. Boy was I wrong. This thing pushes air like crazy. On high, it'll move curtains across the room. I have it in a roughly 300 sq ft living room and on speed 2 it keeps the whole space comfortable. Speed 3 is honestly overkill for most situations unless you're trying to dry a wet carpet or cool a garage. It's a genuine white noise machine on that setting too—if you sleep with fans, you'll love it. The listing says "quiet speeds" and I'd call that fair—with a grain of salt. Speed 1 is genuinely quiet, just a gentle hum. Speed 2 is moderate—noticeable but not disruptive, even during conversations or TV. Speed 3 is loud, no way around it. But that's the trade-off for moving this much air at this price point. I run it on 2 overnight and sleep fine. It's lightweight plastic, which some might see as cheap, but it makes it easy to move room to room. The carry handle in the back is well-placed. The feet are sturdy enough for floor placement and it hasn't vibrated or walked across my hardwood floors like cheaper fans tend to do. The grill spacing is tight enough that I'm not worried about fingers or pets. Really versatile. The floor mount design is great. You can set it flat on the ground to push air along the floor, prop it against a wall for angled airflow, or even mount it. I've used it to vent a stuffy bedroom by pointing it out the window, and it does that job beautifully. This is a no-frills workhorse. If you need fancy features like oscillation, remotes, or smart home integration, look elsewhere. But if you want a fan that moves a ton of air for under $30, this is hard to beat. Great value for the money and is made of a robust material. Great for budget-conscious buyers, hot sleepers, garage/workshop use, anyone needing serious airflow on a dime. ... show more

  • Ludicrous airflow, ludicrous noise. I love it.
Size: 1 Pack Color: White
I bought this to use as a window fan. I’ve went through 2 actual window fans this year and I NEED. MORE. AIRFLOW. I have a gaming computer in my small bedroom, you can’t escape the laws of thermodynamics, it gets HOT after a while. So I got this HURRICANE floor fan, stuck it in my window, and got rolled pvc liner that goes underneath showers and tile to make it waterproof and create a seal. I cut a hole in the pvc slightly smaller than the fan and stretched it over, and created a flap so I can close it if it’s too warm outside. Let’s talk about the LUDICROUS airflow and LUDICROUS noise. It’s got 3 settings. It’s got a knob with three settings. 1 being the lowest airflow, 3 the highest. 1 lowest- I have not needed to use anything more than this to cool my room. Even on the lowest setting, it’s a hurricane. So much airflow, louder than most fans, but I can still hear well enough that I don’t hear it over my headphones. 2 medium- It’s like sticking your head in the back of a 747 engine. It’s loud as a jet engine. Once again, I don’t care I need LUDICROUS airflow. That’s why I bought this fan. 3 high- It’s creates a continuous blast wave of air, and like a high explosive bomb, it will knock light objects over on my table, invest in paper weights. It’s also loud as a blast wave. You’d have to talk uncomfortably loud to have a conversation in a small room to hear each other. Once again, I NEED LUDICROUS AIRFLOW, I. DON’T. CARE. IF. IT’S. LOUD. There are bladeless fans that are much quieter, but it’s impossible for them to move as much air as this Hurricane fan. It’s got huge blades, they moves a LUDICROUS amount of air, and yeah, it creates LUDICROUS noise on medium and high. I still don’t care. This is the best fan I have ever purchased. I just bought it, so I can’t say how long it will last. But the noise comes from the airflow only, it doesn’t vibrate or spin in an unintended funky way. So yeah, love this fan. 5 stars, would buy again as long as it lasts a decent amount of time. ... show more

  • Definitely loud enough if you like loud fans!
Size: 1 Pack Color: White
My family and I love loud fans. This is a great fan if you want a loud, strong fan and don't mind buying more within a year. We use ours year-round, but after eight months, it does seem to die down; the sound goes down quite a bit. If you are not looking for an extremely loud fan, it's perfect, but be aware that the sound does decrease over time. I do recommend this item! ... show more

  • (UPDATED 9-Aug-2018) High Setting Turns Air Flow Up To 11!! Even Low Setting Loud For A Bedroom, Seems Well Made
Size: 1 Pack Color: White
When it comes to moving air I'm very pleased with my new Hurricane box fan. It moves an impressive amount of air and I believe it meets the impressive 2,400 cubic feet per minute rate on high. Even on its lowest setting this fan moves a lot more air than my old fan set on high! And, I thought that one was pretty good. When it comes to Noise I'm not so much. That's the apparent tradeoff for moving a lot of air. The Hurricane on its lowest setting makes quite a bit more noise than my older fan on high. It's too noisy for me in a bedroom fan but that depends on how much noise you can tolerate. I think it's important to point out that the noise seems to come entirely from the fan blades through air. My old fan was almost silent for this kind of noise, but vibrated quite a bit. That noise carried through the walls and I could hear it running in other rooms. Not so with the well balanced Hurricane. It seems noisy but just in the room where it's running. The Hurricane was surprisingly smaller than the old metal frame one it replaces. Both are described as 20in fans but with the Hurricane it appears to refer to the outer box dimensions. On my older fan it refers to the blade diameter. The Hurricane is also very thin: about half the thickness of my old fan. That's a real plus when you are placing a fan on your window sill! The Hurricane's box is almost all plastic with some metal reinforcing. So are the sleekly curve blades. It sounds cheaply made to describe, but I was impressed with the quality of construction. It also does not seem to vibrate noticeably when it's running. I think it will last very well. Good engineering I think. In my application I am using it in a upstairs windows to pull air through the one room upstairs in my old New England cape style home. Essentially as an exhaust fan. I used some eye hooks and a bungee cord to hold it tightly in window. With the fan on low I can be in the middle of the room and feel the air flow distinctly. When it comes to moving air I'm very impressed. Noise level, not as much. In conclusion, this box fan moves more air than any other I looked at locally. On low it moves much more than my old fan on high! But it's noisy for a bedroom or living space. Even when on low. Construction is very good and I think it will last years if not decades. It's much more compact than other box fans I looked at. I I'm torn between 4 and 5 stars. No half stars on Amazon so I'm giving it 4 stars. It's an impressive box fan but even on its lowest setting it's is pretty noisy. UPDATE 9-Aug-2018: This fan has continued to exceed my expectations. It really moves a lot of air. I rarely want to use it above the low settings, but when I do it delivers moving air thought my attic bedroom and cooling it down from the day's heat (this is an attic room!). Yes, it is noisier than my previous fan. It took a little while but I'm used to it now and no longer concerns me, at least on low. Considering how much air this fan moves I have reconsidered the noise level and I'm not upgrading my Hurricane box fan to 5 stars. I'm even more pleased than when I wrote the original review and raising my ranking to 5 stars. It's an impressive fan. ... show more

  • Reasonable performace for the price
Size: 1 Pack Color: White
A light model fan. A bit noisy, not too bad. I have it in my garage so I'm happy. Air flow is light at high speed. Not overpowering. Air flow less noticeable from 20ft. Inside that range you can feel the airflow. Not bad for the cost

  • Great airflow, bad Acoustics
Size: 1 Pack Color: White
This fan is pretty good at the main function of a fan, moving air. No complaints there. However, as someone who appreciates their sound just as much as their airflow, this hurricane isn't great. At 120v it pulls 40w on low, and 55w on high, and the tone matches those measurements. That is far, far too narrow a margin. Low is comparable to medium, or even high on similar box fans I've had in terms of both acoustics and airflow. So if you just need the job done, go for it. If you want some unobtrusive background noise with low power consumption, look elsewhere. ... show more
