After having used this lifeline for my first season I have a couple of notes. First the rubber boot over the carabiner which initially was a selling point I find mostly gets in the way and offers little real world value. I suppose if you were climbing in and out of your stand with the carabiner banging on a big metal ladder stand it has some value but otherwise it primarily gets in the way for me using climbing sticks and a hang on stand. The carabiner that was included had the locking barrel frozen on me so I could not lock the gate one morning. It seems like some water got into it and the cold temperature froze it up tight. It was not something I wanted to have to mess with when it was in the teens and the dark trying to climb up to my stand. I will probably replace the factory carabiner with something more professional grade that might resist this issue. Other than those issues it worked as intended and while it would be cheaper to build your own this ready made option is one less thing to think about or good for those who would not be confident in constructing their own.

Unit was 2 years past manufacture date when delivered, and the end of service date is only 2 years following installation. Required to be replaced every two years after first install, according to label, and that's costly. Will purchase only this one and use it in various locations vs. leaving duplicates in separate stands

I find older and more stubborn hunters the worst when it comes to safety. They all have a story about how they fell out, or knew someone who fell, to injury or worse. It's more common that people like to acknowledge. Here's the kicker, none of those people had harnesses or life-lines. It's a must in any tree for me. A decent harness and a life-line. Even when saddle hunting, you have a harness attached to the tree at a few points. Same concept here, but with a sturdy rope that will catch your fall. The knots are good, the rope is thick, and the locking carabiner is solid. Want less noise? Wrap the carabiner with moleskin. Use a harness and use a life-line. Prevent injury. 'Nuff said.

I really thought this would be overkill and more of a hassle than I wanted to deal with. Obviously the transition from platform to ladder is the most dangerous part about stand hunting and that is exactly where this product excels. I'm 52 now and still love to climb as high as I can into a tree. I have used a strap and vest for many years and enjoy the peace of mind it offers. It seemed silly to not have any safety for those tricky ladder to stand maneuvers. This was simple to install and use, I feel much better about the whole affair. Just need to get a couple more for other stands. Highly recommend.
