Features

  • Stay Ready For Outages - Enjoy hot showers at home even during power outages. When fully charged, our backup battery can supply up to 14 hours of continuous hot water flow or up to 7 days of regular usage for your tankless water heater during blackouts.
  • Made For Tankless Water Heaters - Thanks to an innovative flow sensor, our power supply only starts converting DC to AC when you turn on your faucet or shower. This way, it doesn't drain the battery when not in use.
  • Protected Against Freezing - Face the winter season with peace of mind. This battery backup power supply features a temperature sensor that maintains power output at 37F or lower. This ensures that the tankless water heater's anti-frost turns on during a power outage or when the atmospheric temperature nears freezing condition.
  • Built For Year-Round Use - Our backup power supply is rated IP54, which means that it is protected against water, dust, or sand. It may be safely used outdoors or placed near water sources.
  • Customer Satisfaction - Our power backup is covered by a 1-year warranty. An additional 3-year warranty is also available to purchase. If you have any questions, our team will be happy to help at any time.

  • Superb product support
Material Type: Plastic Flow Sensor
We purchased HUGO because, amongst the array of possible backups for our new Navien Tankless Water Heater, it seemed to be the unique purpose-built solution for the kinds of outages we often experience in the PacNW. They mostly occur in Winter as the result of a severe windstorm and are typically rather short, lasting no longer than six hours. We also found the "plug-and-play" installation of HUGO an additional attraction. The installation was as simple as advertised. And HUGO performed flawlessly when we shut down line power making the transition to battery almost unnoticeable. We did, however, encounter one problem that surfaced a couple of days after installation. Because our City Code required that all appliances in our crawl space be connect to a GFCI outlet, HUGO tripped the GFCI several times, usually at night when the household demand for water was at a minimum. Since neither we nor our heating contractor could resolve the problem, we opened up an energetic correspondence with Safeguard Power Solutions which eventuated in their asking that HUGO be shipped back to them at their expense to see if they could troubleshoot the problem. In their hands, on a GFCI outlet there was no problem. And although Safeguard Power Solutions offered to swap out HUGO for a Sigma Inverter, we preferred to have the unit back which they facilitated, again, at their expense. We subsequently plugged HUGO into another electrical circuit on which it has functioned perfectly since arriving back last week. We cannot commend the folks at Safeguard highly enough for their advice and support and would also recommend the HUGO unit to anyone needing a dedicated battery backup for their appliances ... show more

  • Great product
Material Type: Brass Flow Sensor
Only give it 4 stars only due to the bad design on flow sensor. Other than that I’ve purchased this twice now. And probably will purchase more for my customers that purchase tankless water heater installs from me. Te mhp to fpt connection is not the best design. I’ve got it on mine works great and the next one I did leaked like crazy. The new design is supposed to come out in the next few months for the brass flow sensor. Basically you have to connect a hose bib connection to a threaded copper, pex or brass for thing to make it work right, and that’s if you use the right rubber washer and or fitting you have to get in addition. Again I look forward to purchasing more of these with the flow sensor. Until then I’d recommend just purchasing basic model. ... show more

  • Very Disappointed
Material Type: Plastic Flow Sensor
Installed this battery for a customer of mine who’s tankless I also installed. The battery was not working so I figured I’d give it all night to charge, the next morning it still didn’t work. I called customer support who took over a week to get back to me. In the meantime I’m embarrassed for recommending a product like this to my customer. I’ve still yet to rectify the issue. ... show more

  • So far so good, the convenience of hot water
Material Type: Plastic Flow Sensor
So far so good. Like others have said about the beeping, very annoying but it is good to know that it shut off after 5 minutes. The unit is outside so it is very faint from the inside but I'm sure the neighbors won't appreciate it. Also had an issue with installing the water sensor since there was little room for installation and would have to cut the copper piping to fit it. Since I live in SoCal I called Hugo to see if I even need it. Of course they were trying to tell me how important it is and blah blah blah. I told them the water never freezes here and the water is always on. I then suggested to jump the sensor with a little wire to itself to override the system into believing the sensor is attached and the water is always running. They responded that other people have tried it but they have never done it. So I tried it and it works perfectly. Haven't experienced anything more than 3 minutes with all the brown outs in Los Angeles but the power does shut off about 2 times a year with some ranging from 1 hour to 10 hours. Had some intermittent shut off of power from the unit on initial installation. But it looked liked it was trying to charge the battery at the same time. It's been more than a month since installation and everything is working fine. A little pricey but well worth it for the price of hot water all the time. Update: 01/07/2022 still working without a hitch. Battery still good with no need for replacement. ... show more

  • No more cold showers
Material Type: Brass Flow Sensor
Living in California we enjoy the energy savings of having a tankless water heater. However with unreliable PG&E energy (public safety power outages, rolling blackouts, etc) it's annoying to be forced to have no hot water during an outage. This has solved our problem and has already been needed.

  • Outstanding Product, Company, CEO/Owner
Material Type: Brass Flow Sensor
The HUGO BBU is ostensibly for power backup in the event of an electrical power outage. But I also wanted it because it has active circuitry protecting the expensive Rinnai water heater against power brownouts, surges, and spikes which occur far more frequently. Installation was easy. Even tho there was some inadvertent shipping damage, the company (and even the CEO) has bent over backwards to make it right for us, and to ensure that the same problem will not occur again for others. Quality product, quality company, and quality CEO. Would that all companies had the integrity of SafeGuard. BOTTOM LINE: Inexpensive, reliable insurance to say the least. Very pleased with the product and the company. ... show more
