abunda_amazon_reviews I bought this drone less than a month ago. I was very impressed with its performance for 2 weeks up until last weekend. I had been flying it off of my balcony to get shots of NYC and I had had no problem with this, however, last Saturday evening, the sunset was nice so I decided to get some shots. The aircraft did fine initially, but then it started spinning in a really wide spiral (circling about 2 or 3 blocks). I somehow managed to gain some control and pull it back in to my balcony safely even tho it had almost already hit a building and power lines. I decided to take it out to an open field and test it again on Sunday. This is when the scariest thing happened. I launched it from an empty baseball field in a park I had flown it a few times before with no problems. It was fine until I went up to about 35 meters in GPS mode. The transmitter suddenly lost all control over the drone and the drone started climbing up to 100 meters and making a gigantic spiral of I would have to say more than 10 Queens, NYC blocks uncontrollably. I had no luck trying to lower it and I decided to hit the RTH switch, which did nothing. This went on for about 5 minutes until I couldn't see or hear the drone and the screen on the transmitter had gone blank. I turn the transmitter off because I read in emergency you can turn off the transmitter and the drone will return home. Well it did, kind of, after about 3 minutes it was just hovering about 30 feet above the baseball backstop. It then landed on the top of the backstop, I then climbed up there and retrieved it. This all started after about 6 to 8 successful flights with good pictures and footage recorded. So the drone started off great, and then had a glitch so serious and so scary that I refuse to pay for this product or fly any Hubsan brand drones ever again. Sorry to Hubsan for the bad publicity, but if this thing would have hurt anybody or damaged any property, I would have felt very ashamed of myself. I would only recommend this drone if you have extra money to throw into the wind and a huge open place to fly where nobody is in danger of being hit by it. Also, the photos and video get worse as you go higher, mainly due to the fact the camera is built into the body of the drone, so all of the bumps and pitches that the drone itself incurs is being recorded just like that. If you are looking for clean shots and clean footage, save up more for a better, more stable drone with a gimbal.;;Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2018;;1.0 out of 5 stars;;This drone can go AWOL in GPS Mode;;Byron;;;Wonderful explorer, aerial, or what have u quadcopter this thing is not bad for the price! I have tested the failsafe and it worked wonderfully. I flew it to about 600 feet away and 350 feet up, then turned off the controller. As stated, a few seconds passed and it turned towards the take off site, then proceeded to fly directly overhead, made a medium speed descent, landed and shut the motors down. The video feed is really clear and does not appear to have vibration lines, although I just wish the screen was a little bigger (but is it ever big enough? lol). I have not actually run a full battery dead, but I have had a few decent flights with battery left over so I feel without full throttle all the time, you may end up exceeding the 20 minute claim. I have flown 850ft high (of course I stayed within the FAA rules) and still had clear video. This has a good advantages over the competition in white ( rhymes with shmantom) in that you can link any 5.8ghz FPV goggles or display without having to use an HDMI cable. I have flown 1/4 mile away in the city before losing signal (There are many metal buildings around me to block signal), but I have not attempted a long range in the open. The Hubsan 501's are well-built and the brushless motors provide plenty of power. GPS is a bonus for precision flying, especially in light winds. 20 minutes of actual flight time is realistic, and several charged batteries should to be on hand to enhance the fun & extend the flying session. I would first recommend the smaller, lighter & cheaper Hubsan 502-S for casual flying and to gain proficiency, then get the 501 for more serious flying. I have both, and the smaller 502 is great for neighborhood and small park area flying. Besides, who said you can only have one? Keep in mind that the Hubsan 501 weighs more than .55 pounds and a FAA registration is required to fly it ($5) See the FAA website for relevant info. You can pay more for one of the more glitzy & spendy drones, but Hubsan packs more bang for the buck into their 501 series: GPS, electronic compass, multipoint gyro, quality transmitter, stable performance. I'd recommend the Pro model, with the H906A transmitter. Of course, with minimal mechanical skill you can upgrade the standard H901A transmitter, adding external 2.4 gHz and 5.8 gHz antennas to extend useful range. Antenna kits are available on-line, and there are plenty of informative videos to show you how it's done.;;Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2018;;5.0 out of 5 stars;;Well Built and Quality Performance;;AZ-Shooter;;;I received the black edition and it is the H501S-S.
