  • FHD, Ethernet, Backlit Keys
Display Size: 14 Inches
This review is for the "Newest HP Premium High Performance Business Flagship Laptop PC 14" HD LED-Backlit Display Intel Pentium N5000 4GB DDR4 RAM 64GB eMMC Bluetooth Windows 10 S (Renewed)" This laptop has a lot of features that are great to have on a laptop but difficult to find, especially in the mid-low price range: Display. The main thing you look at! Having full 1920x1080p at this screen size results in crisp, clear picture due to the high ppi. The display is also an IPS panel so the color reproduction is very good. PORTS!! It is frustratingly difficult to find a laptop in any price range that has an Ethernet port. This one does🙏 It has a hinge at the bottom that expands slightly for when a cable is plugged in. I find the laptop plenty thin and light and sturdily built. In addition to 2x USB 3.1 ports, there is a USB-C port, a full sized HDMI port, 3.5mm headphone, SD card slot. As for the SD card slot, it takes a full sized SD card and when inserted the edge does pop out a little about 2mm just enough for you to be able to pinch the end to remove it. This could be a problem if you want to rely on the SD storage to be always connected for things like software or system files. Backlit keyboard: It's a nice feature to have. These are a bit bright and haven't figured out if they can be dimmed, but you can turn them off when you don't want it. Silent but deadly: The N5000 is the best bang for your buck notebook CPU in my opinion. It also has a very low TDP which means the laptop has fanless self cooling and barely generates heat even when at full load. Since there is also no spinning hard drive, that means this laptop has no moving parts so it is SILENT. The keyboard is also very quiet. Open-Source lovers rejoice! -- Hit ESC to get to the BIOS menu on startup and then F10 for the options to change boot devices. I encountered no issues booting a USB with Ubuntu. For all others, there is horrid software prison called Windows 10S that is preloaded on the device. I think this OS is good for grandma's/baby's first computer, but anyone else might want to take the full upgrade to the full version of Windows 10, though keep in mind your 64GB of eMMC storage will be practically half consumed by the operating system. :) The laptop is a very good find! ... show more

  • Great deal... works great!
Display Size: 14 Inches
We got a great deal on this refurbished baby! I needed an inexpensive, Windows-based system for conducting virtual tutoring sessions. It may seem “clunky” compared to the sophisticated, streamlined MacBook... but it’s easy to use, has a backlit keyboard, and hasn’t had any hardware or systems issues. There is only one “headphone” port, so it would need a splitter to use a microphone and headphones at once. I don’t think cordless headphones are an option, but honestly I never tried. Bottom line: For under $200, we got a perfectly serviceable workhorse. ... show more

  • Excellent value for a brand name laptop
Display Size: 14 Inches
This review is for "Newest HP Premium High Performance Business Flagship Laptop PC 14" HD LED-Backlit Display Intel Pentium N5000 4GB DDR4 RAM 64GB eMMC Bluetooth Windows 10 S" model 14-df0013cl. I don't think you'll find a better mid-sized notebook at a better price. The display is great and has very narrow (0.265") vertical bezels. It's readable at 100% scaling at 1920x1080 if you have good eyes. It also looks great at 125% and 150%. Very sharp with no blurring or jagged edges. (Be sure to log out and log back in after switching the scaling value for the best image quality.) Viewing angles and color reproduction are much better than on the VA and SVA panels usually used on cheap laptops. Because of the narrow bezels, the total width of the laptop is closer to a 13.3" machine. The N5000 CPU does a good job with regular surfing and office productivity. It feels much snappier than the N3xxx or Atom CPUs usually found in this price range. I wouldn't recommend it for gaming or video editing or creative work but it handles all the consumer activities I've tried. Plays 1080p content without breaking a sweat, it easily handles a dozen browser tabs, apps open quickly and run smoothly. The eMMC storage is faster than any of the older machines I have with eMMC. Reads and writes run around 275/110 MB/s. A nice feature of the low-power CPU is that it doesn't need active cooling. There's no fan so you don't have to worry about keeping the vents clear and it's totally silent. There are vents but they're for configurations with more powerful CPUs that require active cooling. The speakers are surprisingly good. They do a fine job with Youtube, Netflix, and video chat. The sound quality puts a couple of my old 17" laptops to shame. Battery life is pretty good. I got over 7 hours of video playback over wifi on default power settings before the first battery warning popped up with 15% left. That could probably be improved by adjusting the power settings and lowering the screen brightness. It's not the thinnest or lightest laptop in the world but it has a good array of full sized ports. I'd rather have the full sized HDMI, USB-A, and ethernet ports than shave off a few mm in thickness. The USB-C port is a nice touch but it would be more useful if it supported displayport alt-mode. If it did, it could be used to hook up a full USB-C docking station. If you're hoping to add a hard drive or SSD, you're out of luck. There's no M.2 socket. There's a space that fits a 2.5"x7mm hard drive but there's no port to connect it. There are traces labeled HDD where the socket would go but the socket isn't there. I assume they include the socket on some versions because they sell models with different storage configurations, including spinning hard drives. While it can be upgraded to 8 gigs of RAM, it only supports one module. The traces for a second socket are on the board but, again, there's no socket. You can replace the single 4 gig module with an 8 gig module but there's no way to get dual channel memory. (8 gigs is the maximum supported by the CPU.) The upgrade is worth it if you like to have a ton of browser tabs open or a lot of apps open. Search for 14-df0013cl on Youtube. ... show more

  • Blow's away last generation HP-Stream laptops
Display Size: 14 Inches
My daughter's 3 year old HP-Stream died with Windows-10's most recent update. Bought this refurbed as a cheap replacement. Wow what a difference 3 years can make. This has a true HD display, twice the cores (4 vs 2), twice the ram (4GB vs 2GB), and twice the SSD (64GB vs 32GB) plus it has 5GHz Wifi vs 2.4GHz. What's not to love. At $179, I bought a second for myself. ... show more

  • Love this machine
Display Size: 14 Inches
This was a replacement for a heavy old Dell that I was unwilling to give up. I still miss the option of using a CD/DVD but such is the way of things now. This computer works well, it's lightweight without feeling flimsy, and charges well. It's now my go-to computer.
