  • Very Nice Laptop
I needed a "kitchen" internet laptop. This works great! Lots or RAM, good processor speed and really fast SSD. The case on this HP laptop is very solid- no flex, unlike my Fujitsus. The hinge seems solid- not floppy, but not overly stiff either. The Laptop came with a very recent version of Win 10, and didn't need a lot of updates. It was refurbished by Arrow. I would buy from them again. The laptop came packed very well. The small laptop sized box was sliding around loose in a much too large second box. My concern disappeared when I opened the small box. The laptop was inside of an air-pillow sleeve that is the best I've ever seen. The laptop arrived in perfect condition! The overly large outer-box packaging could use some improvement. To save the next person some time- there is an issue with the disk image loaded on this HP: It has a sound card driver that does not work. The Win 10 diagnostics make it seem like it's a hardware issue. It is not. A search of the internet revealed a fairly common problem with the "IDT High Definition Audio Codec". There is no update and it wont work as is. The normal, recommended driver update method does not work. From MS website: -Update driver from Device Manager: - Click "Update Driver", then -"Browse my computer for driver software", then -"Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", then -Select "High Definition Audio Device", instead of IDT Hi Def Audio Codec, then -click " Next", then -Ignore warning and click "Yes" Sound is working just fine on my laptop now. ... show more

  • i5 and 8 gig of memory is very good for a laptop in this price range
I was going for a netbook before I saw this listing. I had a very specific using for this laptop as my main machine is an i7 32 gig of ram fast SSD and 6 TB of 7200 speed HDs. PRO's: i5 and 8 gig of memory is very good for a laptop in this price range. Screen while small is very sharp SSD is fast - Big Easter Egg here - it's really a 256 Gig SSD with an unallocated 128 Gig area. You can make that a phantom Drive (to late to add to "C" the way it is delivered giving you an extra 128 gig of storage. No screen problems or key problems or pad problems (wondering if some folks don't know you can turn the touch pad on and off). Download the technical manual from HP. USB 3.0 are very handy. Lot of quick external controls Good battery life and second batteries are cheap here on amazon. If you have Office 365, sign in with your ID and machine is setup for you. Con's: Even using Diskpart I cannot get the machine to remove "read only" from the SD card slot, but its does read my cards and that is all I need for the current time. Even though it comes double boxed, the internal box had a huge gash in it, but laptop apparently is fine. Very small external scratches on one side, if you want "shinny new" you might not want one of these. My take on the refurb is that if you have a budget and you want a machine that will do most of what you want (it 1/5 the cost of my desktop) on a daily basis (including all programs in office, video watching, web surfing, LR/Photoshop and even 1080P video processing (don't know if it could handle straight 4K but with Proxy editing to could, rendering would Ok to slow). Since my machine actually had a 256 SSD I am more than please as this laptop will be used to control some advance astronomy gear I think it was a great bargain for the price which was only about $30 more than a netbook with 32 gig of storage. ... show more

  • Incredibly fast, sturdy, reliable laptop
I have owned this laptop for six months now and it has performed absolutely flawlessly ever since. The only downside, at least for picky people, is that the case is & looks older. This has no impact whatsoever on the functionality of the laptop, the components are new. I've listed some of the pros and cons below: PROS *Easy to upgrade, the older case is easier to open up than more stylish, modern models *Comes with a Solid State Drive *It comes with a large amount of RAM *Decent battery life *Super long charger, it can reach anywhere, which I find very convenient *Tiny light to illuminate keyboard if you find yourself in low-light conditions, works okay *Has an eSATA port in case you want an external hard drive & 3.0 usb ports CONS *It's about as heavy as a large, soft-cover book. If you don't mind the extra weight for having awesome performance at a decent price, this is the laptop for you *To decrease/increase brightness you have to go to settings, there is no shortcut (the one it has does not work). You might be able to figure out how to fix it, it didn't bother me that much. *Does not have a great sound system, but headphones or external speakers can fix that *Does not come with an HDMI port ... show more

  • Doesn’t Work-Customer “Service” for Ingram Micro Renew is a Voicemail
It will not even start, or charge. When I called for support I got a voicemail. The company that refurbished the laptop I received is Ingram Micro Renew. I was expecting the computer to actually work. I am starting a new job, I have online school, and am a single mother. I do not have time for this! I am EXTREMELY disappointed. I expected a real person to answer and at least pretend to care about my issue...I cannot just sit and wait for them to return my call. **********UPDATE*********** Amazon Customer Service was amazing. Through 30-40 mins of troubleshooting decided the battery was not working properly. Since the computer is certified refurbished Amazon paid for a new battery. It should have came with one. Thank you Amazon for being awesome! So far I like the computer, there are a few glitches that happen while typing. I may need to send it back but hope to be able to keep it. ... show more
