Description

For over 50 years, Howard's Restor-A-Finish has been a standard in the antique industry. Because Restor-A-Finish preserves and restores beauty to the original wood finish, it helps preserve the antiques’ authenticity and value, whereas stripping the finish may literally strip the piece of its value. Restor-A-Finish penetrates faded lacquer, shellac, and varnish finishes to bring back the original color and luster. It restores the depth of grain in wood finishes, going much deeper than temporary “scratch cover” products. Restor-A-Finish penetrates and permanently restores most wood finishes without removing any of the existing finish - this is why it is very popular for antiques. Restor-A-Finish maintains the original "patina" of an antique finish, maintaining its character and value as an antique. To protect the newly restored finish Feed-N-Wax is recommended as a follow-up to Restor-A- Finish. “Restore It – Don’t Strip It!” Permanently revive and restore the original color and luster in one step, without removing any of the existing finish. Most wood finishes that seem to need a complete refinishing job can be completely restored in a few minutes with this simple wipe-on, wipe-off process. White heat rings and watermarks, sun fade, oxidation, smoke damage, and most other blemishes can be quickly blended away. Before you go to the extreme of stripping it, try restoring it!

  • Makes My Thrift Store Finds Look Great!
I have a passion for antique furniture in solid wood. Unfortunately for me, my wallet will never fulfill my desires. My budget runs to thrift stores, where I find old, solid wood items in less than pristine condition. Many are from well-known manufacturers, like Ethan Allen and Lane Furniture. Some come from long closed and forgotten furniture manufacturers and stores, but all need a little love. Voila' this kit contains all the love the stuff needs and then some. All you need is a little Murphy's Oil Soap in a bucket of warm water (none of this stuff is ever clean. The dirt that comes off is usually shocking), 0000 steel wool, and some clean cloths (cotton or microfiber), plus an afternoon and a bit of elbow grease. Scrub off all the dirt with the Murphy's Oil Soap, and dry with a cloth. Let the furniture dry for a day or two, while you shower off all the dirt that time has left on the item. Then use the items in this kit. There are clear directions, with the "restore a finish" taking the most time and effort. Most of the furniture I've found has years and years worth of Pledge Wax on it, and the restore a finish removes it. Then, use either the orange oil (which can remove old Wax as well) or the Beeswax Finish on your clean and beautiful piece of furniture. 99% of the time, just cleaning the item makes it look wonderful. The Oil or Beeswax should be put on sparingly to give a slight shine to the now beautiful furniture. I haven't had one item that didn't respond to this treatment and end up looking like an expensive Antique Store find, not a $5 table from a thrift store. My latest find is a solid mahogany writing desk from the 1930's (by the style) and looks stellar. ... show more

  • Did not destroy finish
I used the orange oil to clean my cabinets, and the restore a finish to follow up. It did a fairly good job on my very old cabinets which should probably be replaced soon. They did look better, and this process did not destroy the surface of the cabinets as some previously tried products did.

  • Product really works on white marks and smells great
I bought this for my dining room table which had a massive white mark on it. Someone left a hot pizza box on it and ruined it. I have tried many products (including baking soda and toothpaste) but nothing worked. I purchased the bundle and used each one step by step. On the white mark I used the steel wool that came with the bundle and the restorer. The white mark almost disappeared and as well as light scratches and some persistent marker bits too!! I bought the neutral restorer by mistake as I thought that it was for all woods but it still really worked. I might buy the dark one too and try that as well. The table looks almost new and I am so happy. The orange oil smells so good too! Definitely will be using on other furniture ... show more

  • Not impressed with the threesome.
Don't like the oil at all. Smells nice but doesnt "clean" - leaves everything oily, which attracts dust. The wax is ok but nothing special, The Restorer is always great. I think they bundle it with the others to get you to try them. I thought maybe they worked especially well together. Not really. I think the orange oil only serves to inhibits the absorption of the Restorer. ... show more

  • Works like magic!
I used this product to restore my old, faded and scratched mahogany bedroom set. It definitely made a huge difference. I wasn’t keen on doing a whole restoration process but I was really pleased with how beautiful the set looked when I was done. The scratches were nicely hidden and the wood had a beautiful luster. I would highly recommend all these products! ... show more
