Wonderful and educational book! I highly recommend it!
Format: Paperback
I highly recommend this book. You can tell the author has gone to great lengths to explain the basics of private banking in simple terms. If you are entertaining the idea of private banking and you are not sure what questions to ask, please do yourself a favor and purchase this book to, at the very least, have some basic knowledge BEFORE you meet with them. I recently met with two different private banks. Both banks were absolutely wonderful. When I left, however, my head was spinning. There was so much information to process. After reading this book, all of the questions that I was being asked by both banks made so much sense i.e. risk tolerance, segmentation, trusts, tax planning, philanthropy, etc. When I left one bank, there was a check mark on a standardized portfolio of the return I could expect based on my risk tolerance. I had no idea what that meant at the time. I can say that these bankers listened to my concerns very closely. Though I am still not convinced that private banking is for me, I feel much for comfortable about our follow up visits. ... show more

A clear and precise introduction to the language of modern wealth management
Format: Kindle
This books gives a comprehensive and holistic view on the emerging world of private wealth management. This topic is quite complex now-a-days because existing institutions are currently morphing themselves and their services to become wealth managers. This book gives a very clear explanation which is grounded in the author's knowledge of the industry's transformation over time. At first glance, readers who would benefit reading this book need to have anywhere from $100K to $500K of investable wealth, on the lower end. I have discovered however that one often enters this bracket to discovered a new complex and confusing world of opportunities. I think it benefits anyone to consider reading this book well before their enter investment scale. The complexity of the private wealth management industry has arisen, partially, due to the banks' desire to understand the life paths and choices of different clients. As a result, making wealth manager choices factors a myriad of factors (geographical, political, ethnic, cultural, religious, etc.), all of which are explained in eloquent and precise manner. I highly recommend this book to anyone has any interest in finance whatsoever as it introduces a great amount of valuable dictionary in the context of present day examples spanning the globe. ... show more

For people with little knowledge of private banking.
Format: Kindle
Depending on your knowledge of private banking this book is either very basic or very valuable. I guess I was looking for something a little more in depth. I am giving it 3 stars b/c I was probably not the intended audience of this book and found much of the information self evident.

Very practical private banking guide
Format: Kindle
This well structured book gives a solid base of what one should be aware of when choosing a private bank. Besides the typical private banking services, the author talks about things like succession planning, securities lending which were new to me and I would find useful in the future. The checklist at the end of each chapter equips the reader with practical questions that could be used when dealing with a private bank. By reading this book, I got a much better understanding of how banks charge fees. The topic is discussed not only in the fees chapter but also through worked examples in the investment funds, as well as in the chapters portfolio management, discretionary portfolio management, succession planning and active trading. You should be aware that the book does not give particular investment advice nor does it provide a list of private banks to choose from. Coming from an Emerging Markets country, I would recommend this book to anyone who is considering to open a private banking account, especially if the bank is outside of their country of residence. ... show more

The perfect introduction to private banking
Format: Kindle
This book is exactly what I needed. Before I read this book, I literally knew nothing about private banking. _How To Choose A Private Bank_ beautifully breaks down every aspect of private banking. You'll learn that there is no such thing as the perfect private banking solution, but there might be an ideal solution for *you*. It turns out that the relationship between the banker and the client is an intensely personal one, and the choice of the correct bank or correct banker is largely based on the client himself. There is a tremendous difference between the needs of a highly-independent seasoned investor and the needs of someone who needs his hand held in the financial game. The book teaches you not just what questions you need to ask your potential banker, but first, what questions you need to ask of yourself and your goals. ... show more

A thorough guide
Format: Paperback
Indeed private banking is not for the super rich and many people do not realize the benefits a private bank could bring them. Things like swapping your mortgage from one currency to another, or investing with hedge funds is within easy reach when you have the right advice from your private banker. The book flows naturally without the technical lingo that many finance guides tend to confuse the readers with and useful for those that need to see how far their money can go. ... show more

Great Book
Format: Kindle
The book presents us with valuable insights on how to choose a private bank. The intricacies of the financial world are transformed into an easy-to-use guide by a marvelous writing style. The individuals chapters are very well organized with a plethora of examples and practical check-lists. My favorite chapters were "Fees" and "Active Trading" as they revealed dimensions of private banking which were not clear to me before reading the book. Other chapters such as "Reducing Risk" were not so useful due to my long experience in risk management in the financial services industry. I will strongly recommend the book to novices in the realm of private banking. It will enable potential users to avoid certain financial traps and to make an educated choice about the right bank for them. ... show more

All in all highly recommended.
Format: Paperback
With 15yr+ of experience as an institutional investor, I can tell that the book is a must-read item for private individuals facing the challange of managing their wealth. The author provides valuable insight into the otherwise very opaque world of private banking. The clear-cut and no-nonsense stlyle of Mr Bahovski has shed quite some light on the most crucial topics of private wealth management, from the end-client perspective, covering risk management, fees, products and taxation; his background as a senior private banker gives credit to his words. All in all highly recommended. ... show more
