I like the more personal story's about the old dealer ships and what the farmers did and thought about the equipment, it could have used more of this and maybe less theoretical opinion, but hey I was not alive at that time ether.

I was very excited when I saw this book due to my lifelong love of farm equipment. One of the high points in my childhood was a trip to Rozzells Implement the local IH dealership in my home town, and I hoped this book was going to be a trip down memory lane. I was disappointed however by the lack of diversity in the dealerships featured. I remember when this book was being written there was talk on the internet of the search for dealership information, but it appears that didn't go to far. Given the vast numbers of tractor and implement dealerships in America during the 20th century, and often featured in the publications of clubs I am member of, there was scant variety. Between some contemporary dealerships, vintage dealership photo's, and defunct dealerships that still plainly show their dealership past there should have been abundant photo's to illustrate this book. What I found were many photo's of few dealerships, and some photo's of buildings that without a caption saying they were once a dealership one would never imagine that they were. In that respect alone at least in my area, a drive through rural small towns would reveal a number of closed dealerships whose architecture or signage would make it clear what they had been. If you expecting the variety you would expect from the average tractor or implement book, you will not find it here. For all of it's faults though this is a well made book, with clear text and pictures. ... show more

Brian did a really good job digging up old time stories and pictures to blend with the modern day. A nice read with those great old snap shots to go with it. Anyone that is into old tractors will love it. One other nice thing is that unlike most other books this one, published by Krause Publications, is printed here in the USA. ... show more
