Check your device's compatibility before buying!!

Purchased this for my 8 year old son for Christmas. He has a load of traditional Hotwheels tracks of varying types that I thought he could attach to this. He was super excited to try it out! After opening gifts, we charged the portal and went to download the app on my Kindle, only to find that it isn't available in the Amazon app store. I then went through the steps to download the Google play store onto the Kindle so I could access the app. After the 30 minutes, or so of doing all that, I find the app in the Play store, only to learn that IT ISN'T COMPATIBLE WITH KINDLES!!! There are only a handful of devices that this works with. I think the manufacturer assumes that everyone has an iPad. We're not an apple family, though. What. A. Bummer. I downloaded the app onto my phone (Samsung Galaxy s9). This isn't a sustainable fix for us, though(I'm not giving him my phone every time he wants to play with it) . So now I've got to decide if I should return it or get a tablet that is compatible. What a gigantic hole in this product's usability.

Great product, ads a whole new dimension to your hot wheels experience

Works as expected. Scans cars and you can play games with them. I can't say anything to use with the smart track but with standard hot wheels track it works perfectly. I always like putting it at the bottom of a hill or right after a speed booster to get scale speeds of the vehicles. This product only works with hot wheels id cars so you won't be able to read standard vehicles. Race portal comes with two ID cars as well. Twinmill works perfectly for any type of track but the other included vehicle seems to struggle on loops and sharp turns.

CHECK YOUR DEVICE COMPATIBILITY BEFORE BUYING!!!

I was honestly extremely excited about this product and had even set up a custom track for its arrival, but arrival day came I set everything up, it connects with the blue tooth on my iPhone 6s just fine, annnnnnnnnnnd nothing! So I try to troubleshoot it, and then I see tucked away on their official site under the FAQ, "iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone X, iPad Air 2, iPad 5th Generation (2017), iPad 6th Generation (2018), iPad Pro, 10.5-inch iPad Pro. (2016 and newer devices recommended)" So yeah because I don't upgrade my phone every year, and because I'm not a tablet person I got screwed! This was honestly a massive waste of my time, and money. Mattel should clearly state this on the page, because it's not there, it's only in the reviews do you see this.

Great job Hot Wheels! 👍

I purchased this to use for myself. I grew up in the 70s playing with Hot Wheels and saw the new ID cars and portal. I thought what the heck I'll give it a go. I use the Hot Wheels ID cars on my Samsung Galaxy S9 cell phone, Android OS. I got my phone over two years ago. I have had no problem with bluetooth connectivity. Not sure what some of these reviews are going on about not being able to connect if your device isn't brand new. The Hot Wheels ID cars have a NFC chip inside. When using the Hot Wheels ID racing game app, which you can download. I place the cars right up to the back of my phone, my phone reads the NFC chip and bam they are in the game. This Hot Wheels portal device allows you to do the same thing if your device does not have an NFC reader just via buetooth. There are specific competitions in the game app where you use this portal. What this thing does is keeps track of your speed and laps via 4 little "eyes" in the track. You can also attach the HotWheels smart track or normal track to this portal and use it as a stand alone raceway. Or you can even bring your physical track into the mobile device app. Giving this 5 stars. It works well and is well thought out to connect a game app and the physical world. Check out the photos I posted showing one of the vehicles that comes with this portal in the game app.

Portal Connects With the Smaller Track Pieces. Great Set.

I received the Hot Wheels id portal and the Hot Wheels Multi-Loop Box. The id portal came with 2 of the Hotwheels id cars and the Multi-Loop Box came with a standard Hotwheels car. The id portal charges with a USB-C cable (included). Then you download the app that is in the directions. I had already previously downloaded this app from a previous id set, but I did have to do an update. The app installs fairly easy. Once installed, turn on your portal and pair it with your device, make sure you press the bluetooth icon (and that your devices bluetooth is on) in the upper right corner on the apps home screen. I took some screenshots from the app. There is a racing game and several other things to do on this app. The app still works for this portal, but you can't do the track part on the app because that is for the special track with USB connectors that comes in the Hot Wheels id kit. This id portal fits the smaller track pieces, so now you can connect it to the Multi-Loop set or whatever other Hotwheels set you have that uses the thinner orange & blue track pieces. Honestly I like this one better because you can just add on to tracks that you already have and it's more simple. The portal can only detect Hotwheels id cars, but you can still roll other cars through. The Multi-Loop Box is a set of smaller tracks that you can build loops and a track with. There are 2 light blue connectors used to make the loops. These are a little trickier to disconnect when you're changing the track, but they do still come apart. These track pieces are great because they also fit onto my son's preexisting Hot Wheels track. There are little side shoots off his bigger track that these smaller track pieces fit into with the dark blue connector pieces that are included. Now he can just attach this Multi-Loop on and expand his set even more. This set is great even on it's own because it makes a decent size track and you can use the lid and the box to connect track pieces too. There is a booklet that gives you various track possibilities. I am pretty pleased with this set and I know my 12 and 4 year olds love it.
