  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Hours of fun; but, requires batteries
Style: Standard
The only flaw with this toy is that it requires batteries (5 D batteries) rather than having a rechargeable battery. If the Colossal Crash Track Set had a rechargeable battery it would be perfect. If you buy or gift this, buy a battery charger for D batteries as well, to avoid the expense of constantly repurchasing D batteries. With that said, I bought this for my nephew and he loves it. He spends hours per day playing with it. Both children and adults will enjoy this. Certain cars work better on this track than do others. The cars need to be 1/64th size. Also, some really light weight cars don't have enough mass to push through the green and orange tunnels (thus they get stopped by the little doors and then cause jams/crashes - which can add to the fun), while some heavy cars loose speed and need to be manually pushed at certain points in the loops. So expect to spend some time figuring out which of your child's cars work best with this track. Assembly is very easy if you follow the excellent pictorial instructions included by Hot Wheels. Assembly by an adult will take mere minutes. If you have a small child helping, like I did, s/he may slow you down some, but given the ease of assembly and the easy to follow instructions, a child really could assemble the track without an adult. My 5-year old nephew assembled half the track by himself without looking at the instructions. When the track is turned on, it is noisy. It is your very own miniature motor speedway; and like an actual motor speedway this track is loud. The difference is that instead of the noise coming from car engines, as would be the case on a real motor speedway, the noise comes from the track's booster motors. The booster sound adds to the fun; but, you will hear it all over your house, unless you have the track in a sound-proof room. My family has the track in a one-level, 2000 sq. ft. house and when the track is on, it can easily be heard all over the house. The track is tons of fun, but it is loud. A single child/person can play with this; or up to 4 children/people can comfortably play with this at the same time. More than 4 children/people will be somewhat crowded; but, 4 or fewer kids can play together on the track. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Customer Service
Style: Standard
I bought this for my son for last Christmas. It was one of the things he specifically asked for was Hot Wheels tracks. I set it up Christmas day and showed him how it worked. It can be a little more finicky than some of the other Hot Wheels tracks he got with cars getting stuck, but he figured it out and loved playing with it. As kids often do he didn't play with it after a while. It doesn't really fold up much smaller than it's original size so we just left it set up in another room. This summer he went to use it again and it didn't work. I bought new batteries and it still didn't work. I disconnected one motor at a time and realized it was only one of the motors that was causing the whole thing to not work. This is where the great customer service comes in. I contacted Hot Wheels about the broken motor and they immediately sent us a new one and included a new hot wheels car as a bonus gift. We just got the replacement and everything works again and my son was so excited that he got a new car too. They made his day. Having recently had very poor customer service from other companies I could not believe the response from Hot Wheels. No questions, quick response, an apology, quick replacement, and a free gift on top of it. He has already started asking for this Christmas for a Hot Wheels track builder set so he can try and link his different tracks together. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars It's big, It's Hot Wheels, it's motorized, but
Style: Standard
It is pretty cool in the fact that it is very big. It is a pain in the butt in the fact that it is very big. My kids are huge Hot Wheels fans with a pretty big collection, unfortunately upon set up of the colossal crash they have found maybe 5 to 10 of the 100 or so cars they own will actually work on the track.. So their 1st thought was disappointment because it "didn't work, dad". So dad had to sit with them and go through the pile to find the ones that did maneuver the track. No real visual characteristics to look for other than cars with low spoilers get caught other than that you just have to run the car and if it don't work it dont work, and you have to go get it . Sadly this means your kids stepping over stepping on bumping into 5' of track. So really a fun track has turned into a test track to find Hot Wheels that don't work everyday because the boys don't understand that the ones we find that work need to stay separate. The kid in me is with them on this. This was the big ask for from santa and I think at this point they wish they had wish back. AGES 3&6 ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars CRASH!!!!
Style: Standard
This set is great. My Kid has been playing with it all day and well... so have I hahahahhaha. Runs great but you need to make sure you have track cars that are not too tall. Best Hotwheels motor type set I have ever gotten to check out. The only drawback is the 6 D size batteries you will need. Plus at the $80 price point they should have just made it $99 and had a rechargeable battery pack. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars My Grandson Loves It!
Style: SIOC/FFP
Your kids will likely, too, however there are a couple of things that are not as we would hope. 1) The heaviest of the two cars does not travel the full track well and stops between launchers. 2) It requires a lot of storage space and may not be suitable for all homes. The best part is other hot wheels work on the track! ... show more
