The media could not be loaded. I use this engine to literally power some of my lego sets. This engine has a usb outlet that will power small things and i put it to the test with my lego sets. I cannot express how cool it is to whip this out to power my lego set and my friend who was all confused until it started to whirl up. I keep looking for things around the house i can plug into the engine to see if it powers said item.

The media could not be loaded. This is a fun little gadget to demonstrate several physics principles. It came packaged well, the alcohol burner was in a bubble wrap envelope and the engine was rolled up in a sheet of bubble wrap. The instructions are fairly clear on the setup process, with lots of warnings about safety since we're dealing with open flame and heated metal. Build quality of the engine itself is pretty good. Think they said it's an electroplated zinc alloy made to look like brass. Everything on the engine itself is constructed well and looks like it will hold up to a lot of use. The base plate is a thin piece of sheet metal with a gold foil sticker over it. The sticker on mine came scratched off a bit in one corner by the alcohol lamp holder. The underside edges of the plate have a pretty sharp burr that could cause cuts if you slide your finger along it. Would have preferred it if they sanded that burr off at least. The base plate could also be a bit thicker to give the whole device a bit more weight. When this thing really gets going it can sometimes vibrate itself right off a table, even with the rubber feet on the bottom. The engine is connected to a small DC motor by a belt. On the back of the motor they've soldered on a color cycling LED, and a USB-A cord / plug to demonstrate harnessing usable output from the engine. Included in the box is a small USB powered light wand to use with it. Not enough power to start charging my phone unfortunately. :) The USB cord / plug is a bit janky. It's just free to flop about wherever. In the product pics it looks like it's attached to the front corner of the base plate, but no. I might end up trying to stick it there with some double-sided tape or something. They recommend 95% alcohol, but I only had 91% next to me and it worked just fine. The instructions say to wait 2 minutes after lightning the alcohol lamp to spin the flywheel, but I found it would turn over successfully after about 30 seconds of heating. It then takes 20-30 seconds to fully stop after you blow the flame out. I've attached a video of the whole process from start to finish.
