  • Fantastic car at a budget price!!!
Color: Gray
So, I've just recently gotten into the RC car hobby. So this is my first real RC car purchase. I'm going to start with the cons because they're so few. The first con the cars listed as a 1/8 scale however actual size is about a good 1/10 scale car. The second con is that the differentials need better lubrication and thicker fluid to be more effective. Which leads me to the third con which is that the screws for this car are all Phillips head screws and they use a small 2.5 mm Phillips head I believe. While most of the screws are easy to remove when it comes to the differential especially the center differential very extremely difficult you have to heat the metal differential case with either a heat gun or a small torch and use a hammer to hammer the screwdriver into the screw to help break the red lock that they use but once you get them loose you can get right into the differential cases. Then again with the differentials themselves they have kind of screws or Phillips head and you have to be extremely careful and the slow and patient to get the screws loose once you get them open though the differentials are made of solid metal they are really well built and personally I used a silicone earplug to cram in the middle differential to center differential and basically lock it up. The front I didn't really change anything in the rear I added just a little bit of the earplug to give it some protection and to make it a little bit stiffer Don't overdo it it's easy to do. And that's about all the cons I have. Okay the last time is ready is a 3S battery 2600 mah it goes really fast and it uses a special size battery which has been extremely difficult for me to find in a decent milliamp hour battery but it will take a 4S lipo and you can raise the body so if you have to use a 4S lipo you can use a full size LiPo and just strap it to the center brace. Now for the positives. This car is extremely well built!! I have bashed this car off of ramps 20-30 ft in the air I have smacked it into walls I am a terrible driver but this thing has taken every bit of the abuse. It took some time it took some effort it actually took me going into it a couple of times taking it apart and getting frustrated putting it back together and taking it back apart and eventually getting it to the point where I was able to get into the differentials and I was able to put grief and earplugs and other things in the differentials to get them to work better and subsequently made it a lot more fun to drive even though it was a ton of fun beforehand it's even more fun now. It's got great speed and that's on a 3S battery it will actually hold a 4S battery just fine I haven't gotten one yet but I'm working on that. The car looks mean and tough as hell it's got great tires with great grip they're a little bit soft so they do balloon because of the speed a little bit but not so bad that it's uncontrollable. So overall the car is at 9 out of 10 for me I would give it a 10 out of 10 if it was the right size but it is a good size for a 1/10 scale. But the best part of all has been my experience with customer service and the team of customer service agents that are at Hosim. As I stated earlier it is difficult to get into different parts of the car especially if you are new and have never taken apart or built an RC car before and so as I was getting into a couple of different areas unfortunately I stripped the Phillips head off of one of the screws and I ended up having to use a drill bit extractor kit to remove one of the screws in the center differential case and then even had the same problem with one of the differentials itself and when I reached out to customer service and the warranty department they were extremely helpful they gave me tips on how to get into things better which did help me and is why I ultimately was able to get into them all the way. they also asked me what I needed and they were willing to replace any piece and every piece that I said was needing to be replaced even though I'm the one that messed it up trying to get into it. ultimately I only had them replace one front differential and the front two lower control arms seemed to be a little bit loose for me which caused my drive shaft on the driver side to pop out when I hit a small bump smaller bump. But I didn't feel like that was something that was even enough to take away a star from this car because it probably just needed to be tightened up but Even knowing that customer service offered to replace both lower control arms as well as the front differential and anything else I want to replace I'm not greedy so I only had them replace what I really truly think needed replaced under warranty anything else I will handle myself. So overall my customer service experience has been a 10 out of 10 I would recommend this car to anybody new to the hobby or even someone who's been in the hobby for quite some time looking for a good cheap car to bash and have a good time with at the price of this car you absolutely cannot beat them quality the customer service experience and the amount of fun that you'll have thanks to Hosim for making my debut into the RC car hobby world a fantastic experience I plan on getting the other two cars in this line I believe one is called the veccaro and one is called the venom but one is red one is green I think they have pretty much the same internal components that the X25 has. If you're on the fence and you're wondering if you should pull the trigger and spend the money think no more get your wallet out and get one of these bad boys ordered and bash!!!! ... show more

  • It's a solid truck!
UPDATE: I'm changing my star rating to the deserved 5 stars. My first truck had some issues (read "Recommendations" section below), but the replacement works just fine. I'm changing my review rating to the deserved 5 stars now that I know this car works great. When I first got this RC I charged the battery to max. It ran for 20 minutes. And those minutes were glorious! The truck is fantastic! It's extremely fun on pavement, grass, dirt, wood chips (my favorite). It's super fast and has incredible torque. I got a few battery replacements, so I can spend hours at a time with the truck. I've spent several afternoons driving it around various parks and various terrains. It's a fun truck. One of the coolest things this can do is your go full speed, let go of the acceleration, turn completely to the left (or right) and allow it to skid stop. It's crazy how it can go 30 mph and skid stop like this. Caution ... when first driving it out at full speed, it might flip because the torque is so powerful. My girls (ages 2 & 3) enjoy chasing the RC truck around. I will drive up to them slowly and then turn the wheels left to right (I told them that was the car saying hello). They love this little thing. Recommendations: - If your car acts a little weird (my first one did) contact the seller and get a replacement. My first truck was going full speed reverse due to a faulty remote. My new truck is fantastic. - Get replacement batteries (it will fit up to 2000mAh batteries which last ~25 minutes). Totally worth it. - Get a storage bin from an office supply store to put your truck in. Mine is 18"L x 14 1/4"W x 10 7/8"H. So much nicer than the box it comes in. ... show more

  • Very fast!! Lots of fun until something breaks. One major design flaw! Very fast!! Lots of fun until something breaks. One major design flaw!
Color: Red
I purchased this RC truck for my dog to chase around. It is extremely fast and fun! Except there's one major major design flaw. The tires are so close to the body they rub on the fender when the wheels turn. You can hear the tires hitting the plastic body when driving it. I didn't think much of it at first until I noticed one of the tires getting cut open. This happened on just the 2nd time using the truck! I contacted support and they assured me there is no design flaw (lol). They shipped me a replacement tire but said it would take a few weeks to arrive. I continued to use the truck, just being careful not to give it too much throttle while turning to keep the tire from getting worse. This seemed to mostly work until the truck quit turning altogether. Upon closer inspection some screw or bolt came loose inside the chassis that controls steering. This all happened on 5 batteries. I decided to go ahead and return the truck seeing as to get to the loose part it would require taking a lot of things apart. I'm not as much an RC hobbyist to the point I want to be fixing stuff like this every 5 batteries. I just want to drive the RC in my yard for my dog to chase. The truck looks extremely high quality inside and out, and has a LOT of power. If you have the time to take it apart and fix things regularly, this is probably and excellent RC. But they really need to fix the body design. I imagine Amazon will be getting a lot of returns due to the plastic slicing open tires. ... show more

  • Wow! Hosim has upped their game!
Color: Red
I am a long time RC car enthusiast. I’ve really enjoyed the hobby for over 40 years. I have a dozen hobby grade cars and still enjoy them with my kids. And I’m certainly not gentle with them and do my own repairs. So trust me when I tell you that I appreciate how much better the cars have gotten. I’ve had a few Hosim cars over the years too. I have been quick to point out that they have been doing great with the smaller scale cars, with room to improve. But this is the first one in such a large scale. 1:8 has long been the territory of the well-established ‘big boys’. Well, they better look out. This car is seriously quick with a forgivable amount of cogging. Tons of torque making it fun to pick the front wheels off the ground. And impressive how stable the car is, allowing for hard cornering. On flips, unintentional or not, the weighting allows it to land right side up. Liberal use of metal components on a 3s car is pretty refreshing. Obviously plastic has a time and place allowing for weight reduction and good shock resistance. But I like to see metal drive components and structural members. So you don’t think this is just a fanboy review, let me mention what could be improved. The battery life is not great. Largely because this is a heavy car and it has a ton of usable power. A larger capacity battery would be my first upgrade. And while this is a nice self-contained kit, I recommend investing in a faster charger asap. And finally, as mentioned before, there is some cogging. For the next version, that might be an area for improvement. Make no mistake, this is a well-designed, well-executed car. What a tremendous value for the price. ... show more

  • Has potential (update, no it doesn't), but fragile and could use some design tweaks! Has potential (update, no it doesn't), but fragile and could use some design tweaks!
Color: Gray
*UPDATE* I've had the car for a few months now, and I can report that durability of the body has improved as the weather has warmed up. But, I've lowered my star rating due to a new issue, which is excessive cogging and stuttering of the drivetrain when getting on and off throttle (check the video, and turn up your volume to hear what the drivetrain is doing). It seems like the ESC is not able to deliver power smoothly to the motor, and also that the motor pinion that was used is designed to hit a top speed, but at the sacrifice of smooth lower speed control, as well as protecting fragile drivetrain components. The result is a difficult to drive car, and one that will likely cause further damage to the drivetrain due to the aggressive stuttering that is repeatedly shockloading all of the drivetrain. I was in a lengthy email exchange with the company, and they have insisted that the car is operating normally, and the cogging/stuttering i've experienced is normal. Well, I have cars from HBX and RLAARLO, with brushless systems, and they are significantly higher quality and smoother than this car, so I would 100% recommend going to one of them. Even though this car claims that it is a 1/8 scale, it is actually a 1/10, so find an equivalent 1/10 scale basher and you'll be very happy. Additionally, the car is not really upgradeable without replacing pretty much everything. Also the entire car is put together with Phillips hardware, which is extremely difficult to remove without stripping, due to the excessive amount of loctite they use. The ESC is a ESC/Receiver combo, so you need a new transmitter if you want to replace the ESC. Additionally, the motor mount is proprietary, and you cannot change the pinion gear, because the motor mount is not adjustable, so that's difficult to change as well. While this is fine if the stock hardware was good, it unfortunately is not, and well need to be replaced to make the car operate to the level of which it costs. My suggestion would be to look into options with Haiboxing, Rlaarlo, or MJX. *Original Review* This car has so much potential (actually it doesn't), great motor, center diff, etc. It's just let down by being so fragile. I don't beat on it hard, but one minor bump into a wall shattered the front bumper, and a small side to side rollover snapped the lower arm differential housing mount. I've only had it for a month and I've had to order a new front bumper, and rear differential upper housing. And that's with gentle use. Additionally, the center differential is way too loose, and stops you from putting the power down. Essentially it acts front wheel drive, and when the weight comes off of the front axle under acceleration, all of the power goes there, and balloons the front tires like crazy. To the point where the tires hit the body. It also means you just can't put the power down, look up any YouTube video and you'll hear the skipping that the front tires are doing as they nene the least amount of weight on them, and get the most power due to the loose center differential. I would love to show a video of the issues, but the car is partially disassembled waiting for that new diff housing. I think eventually I'll have a good car, but it'll take a lot of work and I'll always be a little nervous about it (update, this will never be as good as other options in this price range). ... show more

  • It's fast, it's fun... but make sure you get some extra tires. It's fast, it's fun... but make sure you get some extra tires.
Color: Red
This is a follow up to my original product review which was five stars. I lowered my review from 5 to 3 stars because the RC Truggy is 1. billed as a 1/8 scale RC vehicle and it isn't. It is more in line with a 1/10 scale. 2. For a hobby class RC vehicle, it's not easy to work on. Nonetheless, it is a large 1/10 scale and in many ways behaves like an RC Model of a larger size. The tires, although very good on dirt and gravel tend to wear quickly on asphalt. So, if you are going to run your X27 in the street, it is advisable to purchase some good street tires. The X27 is fast, so allow yourself some room to run. Having said this, the X27 does come with a speed dial down transmitter/receiver. I recommend using this feature while trimming out the vehicle, and for younger or less experienced drivers until you can reach a speed that is both fun and comfortable. Out of the box, I ran the X27 and then changed the OEM shock oil. I made this change because I run in areas where there are jumps and other dirt surfaces that require a lot from the shocks, and the OEM setup is a bit to bouncy for my style of driving. Research various types of shock oils if you are new to the hobby. I've been in the hobby for decades now and know how I want my vehicles to respond. Other than that, the X27 is a good running RC model right out of the box, and is build well for beginners and intermediate drivers. As noted before, the X27 isn't easy to work on so if you are not good with tools and have a good understanding of RC vehicles, this will prove to be challenging. Specifically, removing screws that have been secured by red loctite or some equal to it. If Hosim would change to blue removable Loctite or some equal, that one part of the factory assembly process would make this a great GREAT entry to intermediate RC Truggy. ... show more

  • low-speed mode great for kids and beginners, fantastic value for $109
This car is the best semi-real RC car for beginners that I've found on amazon. (and I've bought a few) The value for $109 is pretty fantastic. It's not as durable as more expensive cars, but at the price, I can't find anything better. This is *not* the car for doing maximum speed jump crashes as a skilled adult, because you will break it. However, this is the best "semi-real" offroad car I've found for my 7 year old son to enjoy something that's not a super cheap toy that breaks in 2 runs (advice: we only use low-speed mode). The low-speed mode is ideal, because it still has good breaking and reverse speed in low-speed mode (unlike another car I have, where turning down the proportional throttle removes all reverse). The low-speed mode is fast enough to be fun, and slow enough not to break the car in (most) accidents. The lower speed and light weight (<4lbs) means this car is unlikely to damage people or objects it hits. For example, I also have a "daddy" 1/8th scale Exceed Mad Beast monster truck that cost $400+, weighs 12+ lbs, and easily exceeds 45mph in high speed mode (if you full throttle from a standstill it will literally flip itself over immediately). That thing is awesome for me as a skilled adult, but it's proven too much for my 7 y/o son to drive. In low-speed mode it has no reverse, and it is still heavy enough to hurt someone and/or object it hits. Getting back to the Hosim 1/10th scale... The high speed mode is maybe ~30% faster, which is fast enough to have more fun as a skilled driver, but I'm pretty sure crashing it high-speed a few times will break something. I've been running R/C cars my whole life, I had a 50mph electric car in 1991 plus the current awesome Mad Beast, and I think the low speed mode on the Hosim is plenty fun enough. ... show more
