  • Quiet drumming
Got these to replace the dishtowels and socks I was using to quiet my drums. These are easy to throw on top of the drum heads. Don't be confused by the product images showing them used for electronic drums (there's a volume knob for that) these are for your acoustic drums. You know, the ones the neighbors complain about. Great thing is they can come on and off easily so I can switch quickly and easily from quiet rehearsal to rockin out with the band. They fit my kit perfectly. They feel sturdy like they will hold up a long time. ... show more

  • They work OK (if you're the non-drummer in the house) -- but affects your tone and technique
So, yes... they work to make your drums quieter so you're not bothering others. Just understand that your drums will no longer sound like drums. It will instead sound a lot like you're playing drums on your couch, recliner or other piece of padded furniture. Instead of a drum crack, you'll hear a thud. And most of the sound your stick makes on the drum dampener will be identical, regardless of which drum you're hitting. I do detect, ever-so-slightly, the natural sound of the drum, but it's barely audible. The pads are effectively oversize computer mouse-pads. The snare requires a little extra treatment with the addition of the pad that covers the snare wires underneath the drum. Depending on the placement, you can still get a bit of snare "rattle" out of the bottom in addition to the couch-cushion thud of your drumstick hitting the drum -- all at a reduced volume (and minus any good "drum" tone). One thing to note, if your drums are not placed level to the floor and are tilted towards you, depending on how deep the angle is, these pads will jump right off the drum and onto the floor after only a couple hits. There's no way to secure the pad to the drum -- a couple short strings or possibly some light adhesive or heavy rubber ring around the bottom edge would have been nice to secure the pad to a couple lugs so it stays in place on tilted drums. I'll likely work out some kind of clamp to keep the pads in place on my toms that have a pretty substantial tilt towards the drummer. Also, you're not going to get nearly as much "bounce" from your drum heads when using these pads. You get some, but it could mess with your technique if you're trying to learn how to utilize the bounce-factor while playing. The cymbal pads seem to work a little too well also -- I ended up with a couple extra and plan to cut mine a little bit smaller to see if I can find an appropriate mute that still allows some cymbal tone come out. You can skip your ear protection while playing with the mutes as it's not nearly as loud as an un-muted drumset. So -- yes, they will make your drums way less loud and bothersome to others, but it will also make your drums sound small, not-drumlike and possibly mess with your technique while you adapt to these changes. It's still ok for rehearsing and developing some drum skills. ... show more

  • These are great!
These work well and it has been really fun to have them. They really do mute the sound well but the feel of the drumming is the same. The pads fit my standard kit and so far their have not been any issues. I’ve had them a couple weeks and use them everyday and they have held up.
