I've had allergies all my life. Over the years I have purchased other brands and found them ineffective. The technician who services my heat pump didn't recommend any air cleaner/purifier. I read the reviews for this unit, HPA 300, and decided to try it anyway. So glad I did. It does a great job circulating air in the room, and pulling dust out of the air. My house is dusty and I don't like housecleaning. I have noticed a big difference in how much less dust accumulates on the furniture since I have been using this unit. Even my cat, who has chronic upper respiratory issues, sneezes less. Once a month I vacuum the prefilter carefully, even thought the instructions said not to. That saves the cost of replacing the pre-filter every month, and I have not noticed any loss of effectiveness. The carbon pre-filter is primarily for odor removal, and that is not an issue for me. The carbon's ability to remove odors will be exhausted after 3 months or so, but it will still remove just as much dust. I have not had to replace the HEPA filter yet, and I also vacuum it carefully. Noise level on the low setting is acceptable. Louder noise on high took some getting used to, but it doesn't need to sat on high for very long. I like the performance of this unit so much, I am planning to add another unit soon. The HP300 is the largest unit, but handles a greater volume of air filtration. Definitely recommend the Honeywell HPA 300. ... show more

Sending your firstborn off to college in the midst of a global pandemic is kinda scary. To soothe your own nerves you think "Hmm if I buy him an air purifier for his dorm room maybe, just maybe it will capture some of those rogue air particles which might cause him discomfort (allergies) or harm (illness)." Of course the teen gives you the eyeroll when hearing about the idea. Parents of teens, *you know that look. "I don't need an air purifier!" insists he. I buy it anyway. I tell him it will make a great white noise machine. He rolls his eyes at me again. But, it makes it into the fully stuffed car as we get ready to roll on down the highway to get to the campus of higher learning. Pretty sure he was just humoring me as he packed it but hey, whatever it takes. I take no chances. *I* set it up in his teeny tiny dorm room (with which he will share with a roommate). Figured that while he might unplug it and shove it under the bed as soon as I leave, I at least gave it a shot. A few weeks go by before I happen to bring up the topic of "Hey, by the way, how's that air purifier working for you?" He says, "You were right (I try not to fall over hearing those rarely before uttered words). It makes a great white noise machine. We barely notice it on anymore." :::Victory dance on my end of the phone::: Before he's getting ready to come home for Thanksgiving, he happens to mention "Hey there's a red 'check filter' light that lit up on the machine. What am I supposed to do with this? It still seems to be working completely fine." Since he's going to be home for 7+ weeks (more pandemic disruption) before Spring semester starts up again, I just tell him to bring the whole machine home and we'll deal with it over break. Home comes the lad with his machine. We casually open it up to check the filter and "OMG!!!" Uh yes. This machine works and apparently works very well!! Mind you, I personally had installed the brand new and spiffy clean filter prior to sending it off to school. The dorm room was very tiny and was in fact pretty clean when we arrived. The boys chose not to use a rug in the room so it's not like there was "carpet fluff" to errantly fly around the room. They're both the studious, pretty overall clean guys who really couldn't do much to create dirt in the room as there were all kinds of pandemic guidelines/restrictions in place. But THIS (see photo) is what the machine captured between the late August & mid November! Pretty disgusting to see but also pretty darn awesome to see how well the machine worked. And the college lad? No more eye rolling when it comes to the mention of an air purifier. He is now completely sold on it. He recently came home for the summer & while most everything else from his dorm room got tossed into a corner of the basement not to resurface again until the trek back down to campus in August, I noticed that the air purifier (with a nice fresh & clean filter) is carefully set up in his bedroom & running 24/7. Catching any wayward dust particles....and serving as a good white noise machine. Buy this machine. It works. Pictures don't lie. I shared this pix on a college parents' message board. LOL Too bad I couldn't get commission on the ensuing sales because I can tell you, that a whole bunch of parents rushed to order one of these for their kids' dorm rooms after seeing the picture I took. I myself ordered another one (different size...larger) to place in our basement living area. And will be looking to order another one for our bedroom. Our house does not have an air exchanger so suffers from stale air and pet orders. Been wanting one of these for years but the price was always high. I see now they are about 1/3 the price they used to be so tried it. The space I put it in is just over 300' so I know I'm pushing it. Plugged it in, put it on low and in 2 hours it was a different room. My partner, not knowing I bought this, came home from work that night and asked me what I did because the air felt so much better. It made that much a difference that fast. Regarding noise, on low it's a little quieter than the air from the HVAC vents and easy to ignore. Higher than low It's too loud for me. Even on low it's just a hair too loud for me to want to sleep to as well so I turn it off at night. At a low setting it is a hair localized for my room getting one side but not the other. I've been moving it from side to side of the room about once a week and that keeps it balanced. I often turn it up if I am leaving the house for a few hours to help purge the air. Besides stale air we have a cat and the space often smells "catty" or I can smell the litter box from the next room. This took about 2 days to completely remove those smells. If I move it to the bathroom with the litter box it takes a few hours to completely remove all litter box and bathroom odor. I also have noticed way less dusting I have to do now. The pre-filter has gotten full of cat hair and dust quickly so I have had to blow it out with an air compressor to not have to keep replacing the filters but it's not that bad. In hindsight I see the newer models take 3 layers of filters so you can put a specialty filter for kitchen, smoke, pet etc. This unit uses 2 layers not three but still works well, I would have gotten two 200' tower units with this instead of this one larger 2 layer. The 3 layer newer ones are about 2x the price however. We did get a 3 filter for a smaller room. I like the smaller size but it honestly doesn't seem to work as well as this one, probably as it has less air flow being a tower with no large flat side. The timer function is mostly worthless. I don't need it to turn off after a certain number of hours. I need it to turn off at night, and turn on in the morning with a clock function like my thermostat. The upgraded unit with the auto feature is also worthless. It doesn't sense the room properly and says its fine when my nose says its not. Overall this thing is amazing and makes the living space feel so much better and actually works better than the upgraded unit. Very much worth the price. Only caution is maybe get a slightly larger unit than you think so on the low setting it covers your room space. ... show more
