My normal futon cushion was unbearably uncomfortable because I could feel the wood slats on my bottom while sitting, we were thinking that the furniture itself was just a bad idea. This futon mattress is extremely soft and comfortable, can't feel the slats at all, and is now more comfortable than our regular bed. Now, it is thick, and it's a little wider than advertised (I'm measuring about 56" wide) but that's not a problem. I actually measured to where I wanted it to fold, took out of the (2) zip up covers it's in, marked it with a sharpie, and scored it about 4" deep with a razor knife where I wanted it to fold. Alternatively, you might consider getting a strap to cinch it down where the bend is for couchy sitting, because this mattress is fabulously and luxuriously thick. The downside of that wonderful thickness is it's pretty difficult to get it to crease properly in "couch" mode initially unless you do one of the above mentioned methods. The mattress has 2 protective covers on it: a plush outer cover, and a thin inner white cover. Both of them zip open/shut to allow access to the mattress and are easy to remove if you want to wash them.

I purchased the Full size to use it as a Futon sofa and bed,this mattress is 8 inches thick ,it is very comfortable as a bed,but for the life of me I can not fold it in the sofa position,it is to thick and firm,other people have also tried to fold it ,with 3 people we did get it folded,we all sat on it while it was folded but as soon as we got up the mattress straightened out and slid off the Futon frame,so now I am stuck with just a bed,I spent $200 on a futon frame when I could have spent $30 on a bed frame,In the description it says Futon Mattress Full Size, Thick Foldable,NO WAY.
