  • Performs as well as drones twice this price
Edition: 3 Axis Gimba
I am not new to drones. I have been flying for almost two years. I have 14 drones in my collection so I feel confident that I can leave a good review based on experience. When I had learned that several friends of mine had purchased the HS600D, and enjoyed it, I decided to pull the trigger and buy one too. I am so glad I did! First off. This drone is HEAVY. It weighs in at 603g compared to the 249g's of my Autel and Potensic. But don't think that means it’s sluggish. What it means is that not only does it handle better but it can also withstand stronger breezes. While the 249g drones can handle a beaufort rating up to 5, I am confident in saying the 600D could handle a beaufort rating of 6. Though it’s always best to fly any drone in little to no wind for longer battery life and better performance. NOTE: The FAA rules state that you can fly a drone of any weight providing that you are flying recreationally only. All you need is a TRUST certificate which is very easy to obtain online. DO keep in mind that if you plan to make money with your drone you WILL need a Part 107. More information about this can be found on the FAA website. PROS: #1 This is a fixed prop drone as opposed to a foldable prop commonly found on other drones. In my honest opinion this creates a more stable and stronger lift. #2 The information such as GPS, battery life and other important readouts while flying is on a separate screen on the controller (as well as on the app screen on your phone). I like this because it’s large and easy to read rather than looking up in the corners of the app on your phone for those tiny icons. #3 The controller is well balanced in your hands and when you add your phone it is still well balance in your hands. #4 This drone has built in lights for low light or night flying. I like this because all my other drones I have had to buy lights for. #5 The color is easy to see in the air. This is a boom for me because I only have one eye. My white drones have to have strobes on them for me to see them any time they are in the air. #6 While it is always a smart idea to calibrate your GPS on your drone any time you fly it, this drone REQUIRES you to before it will let you fly. Calibrating any drone only takes a few seconds and it GREATLY reduces, or completely eliminates, fly aways from happening. #7 The zoom for the gimbal is a wheel on the controller rather than having to touch the phone screen to zoon in as is done with the Potensic and Autel drones. CONS: #1 There is a countdown to the drone taking a photo. It is not instant like the other drones. But that is a minor detail as it’s only about 3 seconds. #2 I did notice a slight delay in videos through the gimbal but again a very minor detail. TIP: Power up the drone and the controller BEFORE opening the app on your phone. Otherwise it will not recognize the app. To wrap it up. If you want a drone that performs like a $1500 to $2000 drone. You cannot go wrong with the HS600D. It is an investment I did not regret doing. ... show more

  • Excellent Higher End Beginner Drone
Edition: 2 Axis Gimba
This Drone is very well built and has features that are comparable to drones costing hundreds more! The video quality and photo quality is superb and image stabilization is essentially flawless. GPS connection.is strong and controls are well positioned. Return home feature is excellent landing within 12 inches or less from its take off point. While not the carrying case you may have seen with earlier models, it's still a great carrying case. One tip, as the manual states make sure your charging block is 5V 3A or you may find the battery will not fully charge. The transmitter/controller seems to be a bit more lenient on charging block requirements. This Drone does require registration with FAA which takes only a few minutes. If you are a beginner Drone pilot that wants a drone that is not a toy and has incredible video and photo quality this is the one you should buy as your first Drone and I'm betting your future drones will be Holy Stone drones as well! ... show more

  • Reliability. Battery life. Zoom lens.
Edition: 3 Axis Gimba
Very happy with the Holy Stone 600D. The battery life is better than I expected after flying a 360 and the 900. And they give ya 2 batteries too! The zoom feature kills! Up to 4X. Not used to such good zoom after the aforementioned drones. The range is as good as one might hope within reason, although i did not push it to the advertised limit, because I like it so much I wanted to get it back. That said, on the occasions that i did lose RC connection the auto RTH feature worked every time. When I write a review on a product I try to find at least one thing negative but I'm at a loss on this one. Sure it's no $2000.00 drone but who would expect it to be, but for the money? worth every penny! ... show more

  • Great Starter Drone
Edition: 2 Axis Gimba
First drone for me and it couldn't have been easier to get started once I charged it up. Some things I'd like to point out: 1) You don't get 56 minutes of continuous flight time. You get max 28 since the drone can only use one battery at a time. Fly it until it's low, bring it back, change batteries, and go back out. 2) The order in which you turn things on makes a difference. Power up the drone. Power up the remote. Let it connect. Then connect your phone to the drone Wi-Fi and launch the app. Works perfectly every time. 3) Don't set the drone down (while powered up) on anything large and made of iron. I set it down on my cast iron tablesaw and it mucked up the compass. Had to power it off and move it away before powering it up again. Minor inconvenience that's easy to avoid, but just something to keep in mind. 4) The Remote ID serial number for the drone is printed on a small sticker on the right side of the drone, just behind the gimbal. Easy to see, but nothing to tell you what it is. You'll need it when you register with the FAA. If you want to be sure that your drone is broadcasting, there's a little app you can install on your phone called Drone Scanner that finds and tracks all nearby drones and shows their serial numbers. Makes it easy to be sure you're FAA-compliant. 5) Charging - The batteries charge much more quickly with a high-speed charger and a USB-C to C cable, but I haven't been able to get the controller to charge that way. Have to use a USB-A to C for it to begin charging. About the camera and the complaints in the reviews. For this price, you're not going to get a cinematic experience. The images are a bit overexposed, you can't adjust much on the camera (such as exposure time and ISO), but the footage is really good, especially when you consider the price. The video is rock steady and with a bit of cleanup in a package like DaVinci Resolve (which is free), you can make a pretty darned good video. Only complaints I have about the camera is the inability to adjust the ISO and exposure times (which make night shooting pretty much pointless) and the lack of RAW mode on the photos. But again, for the price, it's tough to beat this little guy. Only real gripes I have about it are minor and are something I hope Holy Stone is working on: 1) Improve the documentation. The "tutorial" video is more of a promo for the drone's features. It doesn't tell you the details about the features and how to use them. The app itself really needs to be documented since there's nothing to tell you what each icon means. 2) Give users more control over the camera. At this price I don't expect to be able to adjust the aperture, but exposure time and ISO should be within reach with software updates. I would also think RAW mode would be possible for the photos, but I'll take what I can get. 3) Give me a way to adjust the yaw rate. The joystick is too jerky to get smooth rotation on video and I haven't found a way to adjust it (see documentation, above). 4) Camera modes - When I launch the app without connecting it to the drone, there are options for panorama and time-lapse photos. Can't figure out how to get to them when I'm connected. I haven't really found any show-stoppers with this little guy. It's a solid little drone at a great price that has a lot of nice features. ... show more
