  • Great stability, battery and camera.
Edition: HS600
I recently purchased this drone. Was looking for one that was sturdy, can transmit for a longer range and had great photos/videos at a reasonable price. This was the drone! When it arrived I unboxed everything. Was larger and heavier than I thought so I knew it would be able to fly in windy conditions. Charged the batteries and controller immediately. Read through the manual a few times and it was time to test it out. If you follow the steps to get it running it's pretty simple, and started right up. I kept it in beginner mode on this first trip. It was very windy and the drone held it's own. It was very stable. Tried out some of the features like RTH, follow and victory hand gesture. All worked great. Max speed was almost 35, had it as high as 100 feet, and flew it for 33.2 min on one fully charged battery. Thought that was awesome! The weather has been nasty so I can't wait to get it out again and push the limits a bit more. Overall, I think it's a great drone, looking forward to getting some fantastic photos and videos as I explore. ... show more

  • Capable beginner drone, very good overall package
Edition: HS600
I got the HS600 as a (big) step up from the HS430, because I wanted a drone that can be used outside and in moderately windy condition but is still more on the beginner side (I don't know how serious I will get about this drone flying hobby) and the HS600 seems to fit the bill very nicely. It sure has the range and speed to get you into trouble if you're not careful. You have to register with the FAA since it weighs more than 250g, but that is not a big deal since it has an integrated Remote ID, which will soon be a requirement. It's less work than writing a review, actually! (Btw there is an Android app called 'Drone Scanner' which you can use to test if the Remote ID on the drone works as intended.) You also have to get the FAA TRUST certificate anyways, for flying a drone of any weight. I had one problem that Holy Stone support was not able to resolve - but it was not for lack of trying on their part. Support goes out of their way to be helpful. I have an old Pixel 3 running Android 12 and with this particular setup the FPV stream will freeze after about 2 seconds. The phone doesn't like Wi-Fi connections without internet access and will fall back to mobile data. Disabling mobile data during flights fixed that. Other than that I think the stability, responsiveness, overall features and camera quality are all above what I personally would have expected from a beginner drone in this price range. It is a decent deal and since it is aimed at beginners do not underestimate the value of Holy Stone support, which is part of what you pay for. There's a good chance you will need help at some point and the HS folks ARE helpful. You will read a lot of online reports about Holy Stone drones 'just flying away'. To that, I have to say: Do NOT test the advertised range in any scenario. Of course manufacturers will give you the highest range that can be achieved under optimal circumstances, so take it with a big pinch of salt. I would not even go to a third of the max range. FAA rules are that you always have to have visual contact with your drone, so why would you want a beginner drone to fly almost 2 miles away from you? As an analogue, you wouldn't drive a stock truck the way it's shown in commercials either. Summary: From my perspective as a beginner this is a very good package of capabilities, price and support - especially since you can almost always find big discounts on youtube etc. Comes with a great, actually useful carrying case as well. I don't understand why Holy Stone gets so much hate from the DJI folks. Things to improve: - the controls seem a little too sensitive for a beginner drone. I wish that could be adjusted. - the display on the controller is too dim in bright sunlight. I live in a place with lots of sunshine. ... show more

  • Great Starter Drone
Edition: HS600
First drone for me and it couldn't have been easier to get started once I charged it up. Some things I'd like to point out: 1) You don't get 56 minutes of continuous flight time. You get max 28 since the drone can only use one battery at a time. Fly it until it's low, bring it back, change batteries, and go back out. 2) The order in which you turn things on makes a difference. Power up the drone. Power up the remote. Let it connect. Then connect your phone to the drone Wi-Fi and launch the app. Works perfectly every time. 3) Don't set the drone down (while powered up) on anything large and made of iron. I set it down on my cast iron tablesaw and it mucked up the compass. Had to power it off and move it away before powering it up again. Minor inconvenience that's easy to avoid, but just something to keep in mind. 4) The Remote ID serial number for the drone is printed on a small sticker on the right side of the drone, just behind the gimbal. Easy to see, but nothing to tell you what it is. You'll need it when you register with the FAA. If you want to be sure that your drone is broadcasting, there's a little app you can install on your phone called Drone Scanner that finds and tracks all nearby drones and shows their serial numbers. Makes it easy to be sure you're FAA-compliant. 5) Charging - The batteries charge much more quickly with a high-speed charger and a USB-C to C cable, but I haven't been able to get the controller to charge that way. Have to use a USB-A to C for it to begin charging. About the camera and the complaints in the reviews. For this price, you're not going to get a cinematic experience. The images are a bit overexposed, you can't adjust much on the camera (such as exposure time and ISO), but the footage is really good, especially when you consider the price. The video is rock steady and with a bit of cleanup in a package like DaVinci Resolve (which is free), you can make a pretty darned good video. Only complaints I have about the camera is the inability to adjust the ISO and exposure times (which make night shooting pretty much pointless) and the lack of RAW mode on the photos. But again, for the price, it's tough to beat this little guy. Only real gripes I have about it are minor and are something I hope Holy Stone is working on: 1) Improve the documentation. The "tutorial" video is more of a promo for the drone's features. It doesn't tell you the details about the features and how to use them. The app itself really needs to be documented since there's nothing to tell you what each icon means. 2) Give users more control over the camera. At this price I don't expect to be able to adjust the aperture, but exposure time and ISO should be within reach with software updates. I would also think RAW mode would be possible for the photos, but I'll take what I can get. 3) Give me a way to adjust the yaw rate. The joystick is too jerky to get smooth rotation on video and I haven't found a way to adjust it (see documentation, above). 4) Camera modes - When I launch the app without connecting it to the drone, there are options for panorama and time-lapse photos. Can't figure out how to get to them when I'm connected. I haven't really found any show-stoppers with this little guy. It's a solid little drone at a great price that has a lot of nice features. ... show more

  • Great 3-axis gimbal, well built, and professional drone.
Edition: HS600D
The HS600D is arguably the best drone I’ve owned. There is so much to this drone as it has many useful features. To begin with the drone comes in a great carrying case, and within the case you will find two batteries, your drone, remote, and many accessories. The drone itself has an inbuilt remote ID complying with FAA drone regulations. Having two batteries is a huge perk of buying this drone because each battery has 40 minutes of flight time advertised. Upon the first flight of my drone I was flying for around 20 minutes and was left with 50% battery which is what is advertised. The one key takeoff feature works flawlessly and the GPS positioning allows the drone to hover at a set altitude and position and not move. The return to home function works great and landed very close to the original takeoff point. The remote control itself is great it’s easy to use and is well built, the inbuilt screen is a nice touch as speed, altitude and more is displayed directly on it. My favorite feature about this drone is its 4K video/ 8K image camera. Equipped with a 3-axis gimbal and EIS technology the camera provides steady footage while flying around. The quality of the camera is outstanding and is a highlight of this amazing drone. The HS600D is an amazing drone, the technology on this drone is high quality and professional. I highly recommend buying this drone because it is great value for money. I can’t wait to keep flying this drone around and getting some amazing footage! ... show more

  • My first drone - excellent choice
Edition: HS600
I tried my son's cheap drone years ago but without GPS and stabilization it was all over the place, kept crashing, and I never really got into it. I wanted to be able to video things for work and was looking for a 4K drone that was rated well for beginners and came across this one. Even though the company is paying for it, I still wanted to be responsible and not just buy the most expensive one. I have only gotten into the special features like follow mode and point of interest, but so far, they worked great. 4 times out (4 batteries), I have mainly been concentrating on learning to fly around and get familiar with the controls. 3rd battery I let my kids (6 and 8) try it and they did just fine on beginner mode. I took it off of beginner mode on the 4th battery, and started ranging further away and using the camera to guide it. My 4th time out I had it in sport mode zooming around and got about 16 minutes of video before the battery warning started beeping. the batteries take about 3.5 hours to charge and get 18-25 minutes of run time. I have not bought a microSD card for it yet so I have not seen the 4K video, but the 1080 video and pictures it sends to my phone are actually very clear and might actually be adequate for my needs. My first priority was making sure I could fly it. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a highly capable, beginner friendly drone that does not break the budget. I will update this with video once I have a card in it. ... show more

  • flys ok sometimes but not a great drone
Edition: HS600
I have been trying different drones in search of one with a solid clear camera, stable flight characteristics, and reasonable price. While this was the best holy stone drone, overall it’s still poor and not worth the cost compared to DJI. Compared to the holy stone 360s, it’s quite abut larger in size - I’d say nearly double. Flown in light to slack air, I had an almost unacceptable amount of drift, really the drones only weak point. The controller is exactly the same as the 360. I appreciate that the controller is rechargeable. The battery is scaled up from the 360/720g to match the drones larger size. I got over 25 mins of flight, and it was about 35 degrees outside - cold definitely hurts batteries. The camera is clear, but lacks any real digital zoom. There’s an option in the app, but it didn’t change anything. There’s a substantial delay and loss of real time video feed when taking a photo, about 10 seconds, a long time when flying. I wish the camera of the 720g drone came available on this bigger and seemingly more stable hs 600. O well, the other short falling, the carrying case is set up vertically which makes it difficult to keep organized. This drone keeps a flight log and this could come in handy for recovery if the drone ever got lost! I had no several issues with connectivity in my 25min flight. The controller seems to lose connection to the phone and I had to give permission for it to reconnect with hovering. Of the three holy stone drones I’ve tried, this one has been the most stable during flight and while it is more expensive than the 360 and lacks the better camera and zoom of the 720g, it’s the best of the three I received. However, it may have been luck of the draw and there may be a serious quality control issue in general at hs, since both the 360 and 720g I purchased had clear factory defects that made them unsuitable for use. Compared to another brand like DJI,this drone is poor and not worth the money. ... show more

  • This drone works well in windy conditions.
Edition: HS600
This is the first drone that I have flown so my knowledge of Drones is very limited. The drone is pretty easy to control for the most part. I am still learning to operate it and some time get the drone headed in the wrong direction which makes the controls seem to work in the opposite direction. The pictures and video are very good and the zoom works well. The only problem I have had with it is sometimes the gimble works and sometimes it does not. This is probably operator error and I will figure it out in the next flew flights. I live in South Texas where the wind always blows. Today when I flow it the wind speed was 17mph with gust to 22mph. The drone worked well as I flew it over my paster and viewed my cows and my water troughs. I flew it out to a distance of 1000 feet (it was very visible at that distance) and it retuned home well. As I learn to operate it better I will be flying it out to about 4000 feet to check water troughs, cows and predator surveillance. I would like to check my fences with it but that will take a lot of fly time to learn to fly it close enough to the fence to be able to see a broken wire. As for now I am happy with the performance of the drone and I think it will save me time from having to drive out and check on these items, Holly Stone's customer service has been great as I have called them several times with questions about setup and operation of the drone. They have always been very friendly and helpful. The price and quality of the drone is great for my needs and my first drone. ... show more

  • A Very Nice Drone & Great Customer Service
Edition: HS600
I purchased this drone recently during Amazon Prime Days and after reading many reviews, I am happy with my purchase so far. The drone is well packaged and offers many nice features for a beginner but is still good enough for a seasoned pilot based on the reviews I’ve watched online. The drone itself seems to be made with quality materials and has some weight to it. Approximately 550 grams. The controller feels solid and the lcd screen layout looks nice too. I currently own an iPhone 12 Pro Max and it fit the controller with ease and it felt very secure. You have to download a free app to connect your phone to the controller. The two batteries are pretty big and they seem well made too. Inside the really nice case is where they store the extra set of blades, blade tool, and usb charging cables. The zippered internal pocket is big enough to store a copy of your TRUST certificate if you choose to print one. The case is foam filled and should keep the drone safe. The owners manual is pretty straightforward and is an easy read. I have no prior drone experience and I feel pretty confident in my abilities after reading the manual. This drone needs to be registered based on its size. You now have to broadcast your Remote ID to the FAA. I needed to contact Holy Stone to request my Remote ID Serial Number, not the serial number on the bottom of the drone. I contacted Holy Stone this evening around 9:45 pm and using their chat feature someone was available immediately. That was impressive in itself. The customer service representative was able to determine that I needed a remote ID module that will get attached to the drone to broadcast my unique number. They are sending it to me for free and they were helpful and very friendly. I am looking forward to receiving my module so I can register my drone and get it out for a flight soon. So far, I am happy with my purchase. ... show more
