  • After trying two HS-260 drones, I'm still seeing a lot of vital issues.
I tried out two different Holy Stone HS-26O drones, and had mixed but also similar results with both. This is a pretty long review so if you decide not to read the whole review then feel free to look at my biggest concern in the next sentence and check out the PROS and CONS section located near the bottom of the review. My biggest concern about this drone, is that it just will not hover steadily. I feel like this is the number one function that a drone needs to be able to do flawlessly, and that is to stay steady in one spot when I let go of the remote controls! I'll explain more on this in detail, but first let me start at the beginning with my experience with this drone. I purchased this for my daughter's birthday since it was advertised as being beginner friendly. I decided to try it out myself before allowing her to fly it. I followed the directions to the dot, in fact I could almost recite the directions because I've read them so many times. So I go outside and get ready to take off, but before I do, I make sure to calibrate it on a flat level surface. Now, time for take off. I initiated the auto take off function. The props start to spin, the drone gains a little bit of altitude, and then decides to start going in the opposite direction and crashes into my tree. Keep in mind I haven't touched any of the knobs on the remote, I've only initiated the auto take off function. So you're aware, the auto-take-off function is supposed to gain altitude, and the drone is supposed to just hover in place. Now that it's crashed, I have to recalibrate it again before flying. I thought that maybe it was getting some sort of electrical or signal interference since I was flying it in the city, so I decided to take it out in the countryside in an open area where there's only fields and a couple trees. I tried to fly this first drone low and once again it wouldn't hover and kept crashing into the field. I tried to fly it just a little bit higher, and had even more disastrous results which resulted in this getting stuck in a tree. I decided to contact Holy Stone about all the issues I was having with this drone, and they determined that I needed a replacement drone. So the next part of the review will outline my results and thoughts about the replacement drone. I'm happy to say that replacement drone(same model HS-260) is somewhat of an improvement over the disastrous original drone but does still have some issues. The replacement drone doesn't immediately fly uncontrollabley and crash into objects. It does however still experience the same issue and almost my biggest concern as the original drone, and that is its inability to hover and stay in one spot steadily when the remote controls are released. I really wanted the replacement drone to work properly since this was a birthday gift for my daughter so I even went the extra mile and decided to try this drone in a windless environment inside of a building, in hopes that maybe I was still experiencing hovering issues because of some wind outside that I wasn't able to see. Once again I calibrated the drone on a flat level surface, and initiated the auto take off function. The drone hovered in place for a few moments and I started to get excited thinking that it was going to keep working properly. Nope. It slowly started to move toward the wall, even though I'm not touching the remote at this point. The props began to grind against the paint and so I shut the drone off. According to the manual, this drone is equipped with an optical flow positioning system which is typically used for indoor environments. I feel like this system definitely needs work. I was pretty disappointed that replacement drone can't even hover properly in a windless environment. I also tried flying only with app and no remote control and experienced a completely different set of issues. Let it be noted that I was using the app with a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 plus. I was able to fly the drone for a while with the app but once I shut the drone props off I could no longer control the drone with the app. I could see camera live images but I could no longer fly the drone or turn on the props unless I tuned off my wifi and turned off the drone. I theb had to turn the drone back on and reconnect to the drones wifi and then open the app back up. I could fly the drone again until I turned of the drones propellers once again. On a separate note , in regards to using a Galaxy Note 10 plus with this drones remote , or any phone similar in size, be aware that my Galaxy Note 10 plus with an OtterBox defender case does not fit into the remote control holder. That means if I use the remote, I can't put my phone in the holder. Below I'm going to list a summarized PROS and CONS list PROS: • Decent camera. • Carrying case. • Two batteries. • Two speed modes • Beautiful feature packed app • Remote control included • Fast charging time • Headless mode • One Key take off and landing • Excellent customer service. CONS: • Won't hover steadily. • Crashes constantly. • Doesn't work well in any amount of wind. • Propeller guards come off easily and get lost. • Remote control won't hold larger phones with cases. • Phone app will not work consistently on a Galaxy Note 10 plus. • No trim or fine adjustments can be made. • Drone feet are too small making landing difficult and allowing the back props to grind easily. • Optical flow positioning doesn't work properly . • Recalibration after crashing seems inconsistent. My overall opinion of this drone is that while it's most definitely feature packed, it lacks precision and ease of use in the most basic areas of drone necessity. With some improvements, it has the ability to become an excellent product but for now it needs a lot of work. ... show more

  • Great drone for kids but had a control issue
This drone flew really well and had a really helpful emergency stop button. The picture quality was great and fun to use. But after about 2 months of using it the controls would randomly stop working and it would fly off on its own. We will say though that customer service from HolyStone has been excellent and they have agreed to send us a new drone. ... show more

  • Great drone - great support
Our son LOVEDS this drone. It is quite easy to fly. Customer support is also great. They provide support via WhatsApp, email and phone. We had an issue and it was resolved very fast and professionally.

  • Good beginner drone
We got this for my sons ninth birthday. He’s a little young for the drone, but he knows how to fly it quite well. It seems to fly decently. It is pretty easy to control. It is really light so it Has to be pretty calm to fly it. It does tend to wander in hover mode. We are still learning how to fly it, so I haven’t got any really good pictures yet. I think the batteries last about 20 minutes at most. All in all nice inexpensive drone to learn on. ... show more

  • Good but
Just considering the drone itself, I'm impressed. I bought one to check out before sending one to a friend who is recovering from surgery and will be off work for several weeks. I did buy another one for him, which says something. I haven't tried the video yet, but everything else is fine. Good battery life and it's tough. It takes quite a while to be able to fly it, that's to be expected. Keep away from the big screen TV, I had a close call a while ago. Note: there is a small protective cap that prevents the battery from being inserted and must be removed. Very difficult to see. I would have given it a 5 except that the manual is very difficult to read: it's way too small (that must have saved ten cents) and much of the most important parts are printed in a faint/thin font and is really hard to read. A section heading will be nice and big and dark, and the data is faint gray. Can't imagine why they did that. ... show more

  • Great entry level drone
For a sub $100 drone it flies real well. It is very responsive although it's not the most powerful so it does take a moment to complete a turn. Be mindful this doesn't have a return to home or GPS, so make sure to be somewhere you can track and recover it if you lose control. With that being said, if you do misplace it due to technical issues customer service is incredibly understanding and accommodating. If you've never flown a drone before I'd recommend the cheaper $30 models HS offers. You can fly them indoors, be far less concerned in losing them, and still get a real good feeling if drones are for you. ... show more

  • Great drone but difficult controls, excellent customer service
The controls to fly the drone are very awkward and confusing. They are very counter intuitive to what you’d find in a flying video game. I really struggled getting the hang of it. I wish that one joy stick controlled the angle of attack while the other controlled the height and forward backward movement. Overall great drone but not without lots of crashing into stuff. Customer service is A++++ ... show more

  • Easy to fly and takes good videos and stills
I have had other drones and have looked at holly stone drones before but could not afford one but when I found them on line at a very reasonable price I bought one. And they are a lot easier to fly than any other drones I have but of they are of a higher guality, the battery last a guite a while and they don't take less than an hour to recharge,my flight time is about 22 minutes per battery and that is about twice as long as any of other batteries. I love all the features this drone has and I feel sure that is one of the reasons it flies so good and easy. The only thing I have found so far that would be on the negative side is it does not fly very good in wind 2or3miles per hour according to my weather station. But that does in no way makes it a bad drone, I would still rate very good and would recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a drone. If I had known the quality was this good I would have tried to get one sooner. ... show more
