I bought the HS360s as a toy for me to play around with drones. I was very surprised how good it was for the price! It has great range, a decent camera and is just overall great fun and a great way to get into drones, which turns out to be a surpisingly addictive topic, so be aware! I want to make clear that this drone is not a top shelf professional video platform. Many people seem to complain about the camera not having a stabilized 3 axis gimbal, so the video feed is quite janky when flying around. But that's just how it is when not having a gimbal. I consider this a really high quality and very fun 'adult toy'. Not a professional video production platform, as some people seem to falsely expect. The controller is really high quality, too. The video stream works fine up to the couple of hundred meters that I tested. The GPS works fine. It's just overall great fun. I bet you could find other generic chinese drones for a similar price, but here I want to point out and congratulate Holystone for their branding and customer support, which other generic drones will definitly NOT have. They have a Facebook group for customers where we happiy share our little "look! I have a drone now! This is fun!" photos and videos, and Holystone participates a lot in that group (in perfect english, I'd like to add!) and are very helpful if someone has problems. Their email support is also good and responsive. This is what a 'budget' brand should do, I think. It's a very decent product with support. I do have to say that I crashed my poor drone into a worst case scenario into iron-containing beach sand. This sand enters the motors and clings strongly to the magnets inside. This will absolutely happen to any and all brushless motor drones, no matter if they cost hundreds or thousands of dollars, so this is by no means a fault on this drone's part. What I really liked, though, is that I (!) messed up when cleaning my motors and caused a short circuit in one motor, burning the ESC. (I repeat: my fault!) What is awesome is that Holystone hooked me up with a cheap replacement part in order to fix it that they are shipping to me now. They even have repair instructions on their Youtube channel! I really love that. The drone does have some small quirks, but nothing that would impede having a lot of fun with them and learning about drones. I only have two complaints: a) it should be easier to disassemble the arms and motors if magnetic sand comes into them (really niche case, though) b) the battery charges realy slowly, for some reason. It charges at about 5 Watts. It would be awesome if the battery would support USB-PD and charge quicker. In summary: if you're on a budget, and want a really neat "toy| to dabble around with drones for the first time, I highly, highly recommend this little drone. If you have more money to burn, there are obviously better drones (the sky's the limit!). But for this price, I haven't found anything better, and am really happy with it, and am now officially hooked. [full disclosure: Holystone asked me to post a review here. The Holy Stone HS700 features mid-range, semi-pro features at the price point of a high-end toy drone. It has many features that Drones costing hundreds or even a thousand dollars more feature, but is also lacking some key features that make those high end drones very attractive. After 4 days with the Holy Stone HS700, I think I’ve finally figured out a few of the things that are not very well described in the spare documentation included, but some mysteries still persist. I’ve had a Hubsan X4 drone, a quality starter drone with replaceable parts and great durability for several years now. It is an acrobatic drone with trick maneuvers and a very poor “webcam” quality camera. It has no stabilization, drift must be manually trimmed, and flight time is short, usually around 5 minutes per battery. Since a trip to San Diego where I saw a drone flying out over the bay, gaining altitude and descending, traveling smoothly from point to point, and then returning to its home position - I’ve wanted to upgrade. But the idea of spending $700-$1500 on something that might just end up crashing into a lake, ocean or forest never to be seen again has held me back. When I saw the Holy Stone HS700 on Amazon for well under $400, I was tempted but hesitant. I hemmed and hawed, going back and forth between Amazon’s HS700 page and the drone page from the local big-box retailer known for its blue-shirts. At one point, I had made up my mind to pull the trigger on one of the much more expensive drones designed for “pro-amateur” users, but then I had a moment of clarity. I read the overwhelmingly positive reviews for the HS700, thought about what I’d do with the $450 I would save by not buying from the Blue-Shirts, and checked out on Amazon instead. My hesitation was based on several factors. While the reviews were positive, I felt like they were mostly by casual users who didn’t really have the option of purchasing a more expensive drone. The video quality posted with reviews was low quality and it wasn’t clear if that was an issue with the drone or with compression when uploaded to Amazon. To cut to the chase there, the videos actually look great, but Amazon is compressing them. One thing I found attractive was the option to mount a GoPro but the included camera does a great job with trivial amounts of video artifacts or lens distortion. With the integration of the camera via WiFi to your phone using the Holy Stone “Ophelia” app, I think the features of the included camera probably make it a better option than an after-market sport cam. The fact that the mounting gimble is not auto-leveling or self-adjusting means a high-end sport-camera is probably overkill for this drone, anyhow. I’ve taken the drone out 4 days in a row now, and each day my experience has been more rewarding. The included documentation is sparse. The English in the manual is not perfect, but it is far from the worst Chinese-to-English manual I’ve ever seen. Pairing, Initialization, Gyro and Compass calibration, connection to the Ophelia app and initiating a one-touch takeoff all basically follow the order of the manual – but some steps seem to not work, or work inconsistently, and it isn’t clear to me if it matters or not, if you get the major pairing and calibration steps right. Day 1 was in a flat expense of barren desert behind an outlet mall. The sun was beating down on me, there was a mild breeze blowing the pages of the manual, security showed up and I had to talk to them. Ultimately I didn’t get much flight time before the battery ran out and I didn’t feel very confident in my ability to pilot the drone. I was very nervous about the Return to Home feature. This was because I didn’t get the gyro and/or compass calibration done right, so the drone was drifting severely in the breeze. If I had let the drone climb to the 100 feet it requires to perform a Return To Home maneuver – I think it would have sailed off into the desert. Day 2, I took the drone into a suburban greenbelt with a large open field. I figured out how to record video and take pictures using the Ophelia app, but was again unable to get the drone to calibrate completely and I was experiencing heavy drift. I spent this day mostly familiarizing myself with the app and trying to get some experiencing free-flying the drone. It is less twitchy and acrobatic than the Hubsan X4. The HS700 is designed to be a video-drone, not a racing or trick drone. The controls are more precise for rotating and the drone maintains altitude without a lot of attitude correction, unlike the Hubsan. While this might make it easier for 1st time fliers, I found I had to unlearn habits I picked up on my previous drone. In particular, the HS700 is designed to hover. On the Hubsan, I must keep the props at speed to maintain altitude. If I release the throttle, the drone will drop like a rock. The HS700 is designed to maintain altitude. You have to throttle down to descend, and the drone resists it. With my previous experience, this hesitation to descend rapidly feels uncomfortable. But for a first-time drone flyer, it means it is far more difficult to crash your quadcopter into the ground. At the end of this session, I finally completed a full calibration. Until that point I had been getting an error message, “Drone not in hover mode or not enough GPS satellites,” Whenever I tried to go into “Follow-Me Mode,” in Ophelia. Once calibrated, the One-Touch takeoff went into a very stable hover and I was able to enter the “Follow Me” mode. The drone battery ran out almost immediately though, and I had to land and call it a day before testing. One of the problems is that the manual doesn’t align well with the actual experience of calibrating and pairing the drone. The steps in order are to hold the lock button and turn on the transmitter, then install the battery in the drone while it is on a level surface facing forward. There are a series of beeps when this is done, but the manual does not describe what they mean. The manual describes LED patterns, but those don’t always match what happens on the drone. After a few seconds and some beeps, the lights will turn yellow and flash alternately from front to back. The documentation then says, in step 9.6, to calibrate the gyro by holding both sticks down to the bottom left. I am not sure this consistently works or is necessary. There is no real audible or visual key to tell if this is taking place. The manual claims the LEDS will flash green, then turn yellow and flash alternately from front to back. The next step, 9.7, is the compass calibration. This is important – and I have had inconsistent results. Step 1 is to hold the drone horizontally and rotate it about 3 times until the LEDs turn blinking green. This consistently works for me. Step 2 is to hold the drone vertically and rotate it around its axis 3 times until the front LEDs turn red and the rear turn yellow. Step 1 is always successful, and step 2 frequently turns the front LEDs red, but the back ones remain green. Occasionally I’ve gotten the back LEDs to turn yellow as described – but it doesn’t seem to matter. I thought this might be what was causing my problems with stability and drifting while hovering – but now I think the most important factor is that the calibration in the first two steps happen on a very level surface. With the back LEDs green instead of yellow as described in the manual, I have twice been able to pair and calibrate and successfully have the drone hover and enter “follow-me” mode. Follow me mode is really what this drone is about. In Follow Me Mode you get a more level and even flight than a human pilot would be able to replicate. In the attached video I’ve included 4 different video captures. The first section is the drone in Follow Me mode. The second is an example of hovering at about 45 feet and rotating to capture a panorama of the horizon. Third is an example of flying manually in “headless” mode and crashing hard into a tree and then a rocky garden bed. This impact did not damage the drone and caused on some minor deformation on the edge of one of the props. It was not significant enough to cause drift or vibration during subsequent flights. The final portion of the video is manually flying with “headless” mode turned off. A note about “headless” mode. It isn’t very well explained in the manual. As far as I can tell, “headless” mode makes the remote a “relative” control scheme, while turning headless mode off makes the stick directions absolute. To try and explain – if you push the direction stick forward and fly 30 feet out and rotate the drone 90 degrees to the right, to then fly forward you will actually press the direction joystick to the RIGHT. Turn the drone another 90 degrees to the right, and now to move forward you would press the direction stick BACK. The direction you press the joystick matches the direction the drone’s head is oriented towards. It is possible I have this backwards. Disabling headless mode makes the direction stick absolute. No matter what orientation the drone is facing, pushing forward on the control stick moves the drone forward in the direction the head is facing, pulling back makes it go backwards, left to go left, and right to go right. I find the second method far easier to fly in, and it is the mode my Hubsan supports. I was in the first (relative) mode when I crashed into the tree. I have yet to test “Custom Flight Path,” mode - but this is another photographic mode where you can enter a map in the Ophelia app and draw out a flight path you want the drone to complete. If this works as reliably as the follow-me mode, it is a high-end feature that adds value to the drone. I saw other Amazon drones about $80-$100 more with two-axis gimbles. These drones had fewer reviews and more reports of lost drones failing to return to home, and none had video samples or allowed the use of GoPro and other sport cameras as replacement for the included camera. Holy Stone could make the HS700 a killer package by keeping the price within $50 and adding an automatic 1 or 2 axis gimble to the camera. It is the one major shortcoming I see for this drone. Otherwise, as my confidence grows with operating this drone, it seems to be a very good balance of features and cost for the amateur drone enthusiast who wants some high-end features without breaking the bank.

This is my third drone. I have an Syma X8HG, a DJI Mavic Pro and now the Holy Stone HS360S. I am happy I started with the SYMA as it has no GPS and taught me how to control a drone. However, after awhile I wanted a GPS drone to do much better aerial photography. Consequently, I saved up and purchased the DJI Mavic Pro (Excellent drone by the way). Now, I wanted a budget drone that I could use for fun flying that has GPS. Since I already have the Mavic Pro I really didn't need it to have a great camera. I wanted something that had good reviews and was still a budget drone. After doing my research I chose the HS360s. I am very pleased with the HS360s as it is very easy to control and fun to fly. I think it is a good choice for a beginner or casual flyer. I don't use the features such as follow me so I can't comment on those. The camera is ok for casual photos but it does not have a three axis gimbal so the video is shaky. All in all I think the HS360s is a deal for what you get. I am using the controller in concert with an iPhone 6s that has no cell service activated and it works just fine. Your eyesight may be better, but for me to keep visual on the drone, I have not flown it over 900 ft away from me. However, at 900 ft I have had no control or video problem at all.

Product arrived in well designed packaging, and one day in advance of the date given to me. After fully charging the drone and transmitter, it was ready for a test flight. I was pleased with how easy it was to fly the drone. I did a couple of flights to help me become familiar with the controls, and then did my first videos. The quality was very good -- the only drawback was my failure to make smooth controlling movements. The unit seems quite durable under normal use, and I didn't have any issues with wind resistance. That is saying a lot since I am out in the country and we always have breezes. I did manage to bungle a flight and the drone landed in a field with high weeds; however, using the GPS, I was able to quickly locate the unit. This is a good drone to learn on and I look forward to making more (and better) videos. Highly recommend this HS360S model.

Let me start to say that if you never flown a drone it can be tricky. This Holy Stone HS 700 has some fantastic features that I did not know I needed until I started flying it. There is a one button takeoff. This starts the drone up and brings it to a hoover in about 8 to 9 feet. This is great because as a beginner one has a tendency to use the controls in the wrong way and it is easier to get started with maneuvers when the drone is in the air. I used the regular controlled flight and when I flew it a bit far out I uses the headless mode to bring it back. This is very important for an inexperienced pilot since you can forget where the drone is pointing which can make the way back very difficult. What I really liked was the automatic landing. one push button bring the drone to the exact spot (within a foot or so) where you started. on my second try I had encountered some strong sidewinds and the drone started to drift towards a row of large trees. I was not sure ho to maneuver it quickly out of harms way. The automatic landing button brought it up a bit, made it hoover over my landing site and brought it down slowly and smooth. For a monitor I used my old cell phone which I still had laying around. In my case I used a Samsung note 3 which handles the drone app with ease. That phone did not even needed a sim card since the connection to the drone goes over wifi. Just sink to the drone and you see everything the camera sees on the screen. Good video quality. On a calm windless day I can probably get some really nice smooth video footage going. I can only recommend this drone. If you are a beginner and want to get your feet wet in something like real estate photography this is the ideal drone to do that. The price is quite affordable and the features are quite comparable of much more expensive drones. The battery lasts a good while so you can get a nice 10 minute aerial video on one charge. I also like that they gave you a camera that already comes with a micro SD card. The only thing you need is a card reader to pull the footage in your computer. However, according to the handbook without using the card you can apparently record directly to your phone. Don't get a toy drone! Get this one since it can do what much more expensive drones can do. I am truly impressed. I thought I have to shell out over 1000 $ for a phantom or something like that to take some decent aerial snapshots. This does it well. And if you prefer your Gopro, have at it. You can mount even your Gopro instead of the camera that comes with it.

***Update*** While I enjoyed it for the first week or so I noticed it was starting to have movement while hovering, like a toilet bowl effect. I effectively landed it and recalibrated the compass thinking that may have been the issue. I have flown several other flights and it continues to hover inconsistently and have the same toilet bowl effect. I even changed out the props to new ones and it continues to do it, I have flown it several times since and it continues to be an issue. The most frustrating thing is I have yet to crash the drone until it started flying incorrectly. This renders flying this drone as next too useless. I will save my money and buy from another company such as dji. If the drone continued to fly as it did initially I would still be happy with it, but now it is almost not worth even flying it as I crashed it last time into a tree due to the random jerky toilet bowl flight pattern. Wish It still performed like when initially bought little more than a week ago! —-initial review—— I have been interested in drones for a while, looking to get into taking real estate pictures and making some money from drones. That being said, I did not want to buy an expensive drone for my first and end up crashing it. I wanted to buy a decent drone that could make me familiar with flying using video function and not be terrified of wrecking it. This drone so far has filled all of my expectations and exceeded some. I have crashed the drone four or five times already and aside from, changing some of the propellers out that were provided with for the purchase it has stayed strong with no issues. It is a fun hobby for me so far and enjoy flying it every time. The camera quality is acceptable, the controller is well thought out and comfortable, and the carrying case is a pleasant addition that I love is included. The only negatives or issues that I have had were initial connectivity issues to the camera, which could’ve been user error. This was solved by turning my Wi-Fi off on my phone. The other issue, which is more of a gripe than an issue is it only comes with one battery. The battery takes hours to charge so realistically during a day, I can only fly this two or maybe three times for 15 to 20 minute sessions. My last gripe is the camera, it can be a little disorienting since it moves with the drone and if you are maneuvering quickly or it is a little windy it can be a little difficult to view, but it is fair for the price point of the drone and I knew this when purchasing it. In conclusion, this drone is a great starter drone and checks all my boxes for starting out flying I find myself getting excited to take it out every time.

My short review of this drone is it has everything you need to get the real experience of operating a drone and performs beautify. The HS700 is a real treat to fly especially for beginners. I have several drones, mostly hobby grade racing style from 2” - 7” prop sizes. All of which I have built from scratch. They are fast and fun but I only let my sons or myself fly them. Also the hobby drones need a lot of maintenance. The HS700 shines in its ease of use and stable, consistent, and predictable flight qualities. I was out flying it at our local park with my son and we handed the control to a 10-year-old boy who never flow before. The young guy got the hang of it right away. I would never do that with any other drone I own. The folks at HolyStone also include a battery bag for charging. This is more than just a nice touch. It’s the kind of detail a hobbyist knows is an important detail for safely charging Lipo batteries but someone new to the hobby might overlook. Also include are the tools needed to to remove the props and install the landing gear, and a nice notebook with post it tabs and a pen. It’s good practice to make notes on your flights. Again, everything you need to just go fly. I have crashed the HS700 (more than once I’m afraid) and it holds up quite well. I once (okay twice) hit a tree and it fell about 20’ to the ground. After cleaning it up it fly like new. One thing to keep in mind is that after you power it on by inserting the battery and have it paired to the controller, you need to calibrate the drone in order to get it to fly. To do this, place the drone on a flat surface and pull both controller joysticks down and to the left. The lights under the props will blink fast green than alternate yellow and green slowly. Next spin the drone flat about three times until the lights all flash slow green. Lastly point the nose of the drone up and rotate it until the red light are solid in the front and green LEDs are solid in the back. The iOS App is easy to set up and use and the video is clean and very usable for flight but not up to the task of professional cinematography. Flight times are long. I haven’t timed it but it’s several times longer than any of my other drones. They say 20 minutes and I have to believe it’s close to that. This is a great kit at a relatively low price point and I feel it would be wonderful for anyone who want to dip their toes in to the drone hobby.

Let me say this is the first drone I have purchased and flown myself. However I do have some negatives to go with my positives. Negatives. 1.It does not have image stabilization. I knew that going into it but it makes the video recording real choppy and can be a little disorientating when flying at high speed. 2. The controls are not super refined. I have found I have to push the control stick more then half way just to get the drone to move slowly after that it’s full speed (in what ever speed you in IE slow, medium, fast). You need to find a sweet post to fly slow and even then it’s still basically a two speed drone flying in any direction. 3. On mine it least if I trim forward it continually drifts right. Maybe it’s the blades or its internal are off balance but I calibrate everything every time and no matter what I do it drifts slightly right when goin forward. Positives 1. Pictures are very clear on the as card. And even photos taken with the phone are decent enough. 2. If you have extra batteries flying time is (in my opinion) decent. Iv had on average about 20-25 minutes of flying time using all aspects of the drone, before low power alerts started. 3. It’s stabile enough flying. It’s fairly stabile for a more budget oriented drone. I do plan on buying higher priced (better tier) drones but if you’re not a professional and don’t need the better brands this can be stabile enough to fly. AS LONG AS YOU CALIBRATE EVERY TIME and have decent signal All in all in my opinion 3 out of 5. It is my first one so maybe I’m being hyper critical but I plan on using this for still pictures only since the image is soo choppy in video. If you’re a beginner I say go for. If you a veteran drone flyer. You’ll be disappointed.
