  • Good quality spil. Drains well
Style: Soil Mix
Worked very well for my plants and succulents. Liked it well enough to purchase a second bag.

  • “Best Value Cactus Soil on Amazon
Style: Soil Mix
I’ve used this mix to grow yucca, prickly pear, and a few different barrel cactus, and they’ve all done great in it. The drainage and texture are perfect it keeps roots healthy. It’s ready to use straight from the bag, and I’ve never had any issues with pests or mold. For the price, it’s honestly the best value for cactus and succulent soil on Amazon. Highly recommend beside diy. The bag is approximately a full grocery bag, plus it's pretty and has no smell. ... show more

  • Great soil! However it needs to be tweaked and diluted to a grittier mix for better drainage.
Style: Soil Mix
Pros: It's a very rich and untainted soil! Unlike my experience with the succulent Miracle-Gro mix, there's no gnats and yellow mushrooms growing! Cons: It retains moisture a little too well. I plant my succulents in a pot size too large (newbie mistake) so there's no root to absorb the moisture. I water by submerging the soil in water and wait for the pot to dry. I ended up with moist soil lasting over 2 weeks. I'm sure if there's more root in the soil it would dry up faster. It's definitely a recipe for root rot. The #1 killer of succulents. Verdict Buy. However here's some advice -- I bought the Hoffman's perlite and made a 50-50 mix with this soil for a grittier mix for faster drying time. I also used a smaller terra cotta clay pot so it's about 1" wider than the root ball of my succulent. The clay will absorb moisture too. This allows the plant roots to have air to breathe and avoid root rot. ... show more

  • This mix leads to SUCCESS
Style: Soil Mix
I am a serious succulent grower and have been buying Hoffmans for YEARS. Frankly, I chuckle at the questions people ask: Will it work with THIS kind of plant or THAT kind of plant. READ the front of the bag: Cactus and succulent mix! That is what it's made for. I grow primarily aloes of many kinds, Gasteria plants, euphorbia, Sansevieria, and a handful of Haworthia and Monadenium. The euphorbias are usually planted in an organic mix of pumice, or pumice/Turface/Manna Pro chick grit. But my Aloes, Gasteria, Monadenium and all Sans are planted in a mix that is 60/40 or 50/50 soil and pumice (perlite sometimes). My soil mix is generally 50% Hoffmans and 50% Black Gold. The other half is usually washed pumice, maybe a handful of chick grit thrown in. Like everyone, I have lost plants. But I have tried MANY commercial soil mixes and can testify that, over the years, Hoffmans succeeds like very few others do. My plants generally do exceptionally well with this mix. Out of the bag, it's a CLEAN soil -- no gnats, no fungus, no mold, no questionable "particles," no stinky odors. When pumice is added, it drains beautifully for succulents, yet retains enough moisture that the roots GROW. Yes, I know it's a tad expensive -- but so are plants. And for plant lovers, there is no thrill like being able to actually OBSERVE the plant's growth because of what you establish it in. ... show more

  • Good soil
Style: Soil Mix
This succulent mix drains well and my plants that didn't die before I got it are doing well in it. The plants died because I had some problems come up and forgot to water them at all.

  • Good draining soil for pineapples
Style: Soil Mix
This works great for pineapple plants. Drains well and they seem to be doing great in an indoor pot. Hopefully we'll see fruit before long.
