  • Wood Material is not Good!!!

Color: Mahogany
I am no stranger to assembling complex furniture or basic DIY items. This particular item is probably one of the most frustrating items I have ever had the misfortune of assembling. During the build process I ran into multiple structural issues impacting the integrity of the over all build. If that was the only issue I probably would have just been annoyed and dealt with it. However, that was only one of multiple issues I have had with this product. The short version is that the item arrived in damaged packaging (this is never a good sign). The internal packaging looked as if someone had used the box as a pinata and I spent the better part of an evening vacuuming broken Styrofoam off of my carpet. The parts were dirty and poorly made. None of these were really deal breakers for me. The straw that broke the camels back was that half way through assembly I found a part milled incorrectly and unable to be assembles without modification (specifically one of the drawers had a slot milled in the wrong spot for the base of the drawer and I had to cut it to fit). Due to the dresser being half built before I found this serious manufacturing defect it would be a ridiculous hassle for me to return it and ask for a refund. So now I just have to deal with it and try to make the best of a bad situation. TL:DR - Buyer beware! This item is manufactured poorly and is not worth the headaches. ... show more

  • Regular guy review
Color: Mahogany
First off, there are a lot of negative reviews related to chips, scratches, and damage to the product. This is a complaint directed to the method and treatment during delivery and not the product itself. Ignore them. The product is properly packed to withstand reasonable bumps during delivery. It would be nice if it had paper between the boards, but in my examination it is not necessary as the veneer is durable and the packing is tight enough that there is minimal movement. There are also a lot of negative comments in reviews about the amount of time. I am relatively good with tools and assembly took me about 2 hours. That said, this is not high quality furniture. It's cheap and you get what you pay for. Except for one piece, all parts are all particle board with a paper printed veneer. They are delicate until assembled and relatively strong after. The hardware is cheap but functional. Metal slides and plastic handles. That are not top notch but they do the job. Importantly, the pre drilled holes are accurate and reliable. I do fault the assembly for the particle board drawer bottoms. They are thin and will work fine for light duty, but any weight and there will be issues. Clothes are fine, but a rock collection is not. The instructions are no nonsense but reasonable. If you have any missing screws ( I did not) they are detailed in the instructions and an equivalent is common at the hardware store. I deviated from the instructions in a several key ways: First, predrilled holes for screws on the sides of the dresser are not countersunk. I wanted the screw heads flush so I modified it. Second, those screws are meant to pull the sides into the dividers for tight assembly. Do not rely on the screws to do the work. It's just particle board and it will strip. Best advice is to use a clamp to pull them tight, then screw together. Third, the dowels are nylon. Durable, but I replaced with wood dowels and glued them for additional strength. Lastly, most of the surfaces are veneer but for any wood to wood I added glue for extra strength. 4/5 stars because it would not have been much expense for better hardware. ... show more

  • Perfect Dresser
Color: White
I picked out this dresser for a specific location in my room, which many may find odd that I out it in my closet. We downsized to a much smaller home last spring, and space is rather limited for furniture in my bedroom. The dimensions were perfect, and while timely to put together, the whole dresser went up with ease. Granted, I did get distracted by the TV a few times as I was putting it together. I was also concerned I would have trouble moving it into the closet, but it was not that heavy, and I was able to move it with minimal effort and by myself without the use of a furniture dolly. The drawers assembled quickly and slide properly into place. I did use a drill for many of the screws, though it is not required—just offered ease of assembly. When I ordered it, I didn't realize that it came with the top two drawers having locks. We've been using one to keep personal documents in, and the other is filled with socks. Right now, so I don't lose the keys, they are just inside of the key holes. They are two separate sets of keys for each lock. The only drawback I have to say about this dresser is that the drawers are not super deep, nor do they have much depth. It really isn't the biggest issue, as I have been trying to downsize how many clothes I tend to use, but it has gotten stuck on the way I tend to fold my t-shirts, or if I stack too many pants on top of each other. All in all, I would say that it is worth the price, and it is a very sturdy piece of furniture. ... show more

  • If you need a dresser, this is OK. If you need it durable, look elsewhere.
Color: Beech
Quite frankly, you're going to need two people to build this unit. You won't be able to build this yourself unless you have four arms. Three people would be even more helpful, because the dang thing feels like it's going to disintegrate while you're fastening the sides onto the cross pieces. Loses a star for that part. The package was quite heavy at 121 lbs (just about 55 kg). When the package arrived, two of the drawer side panels were damaged and the rails had come off. The good news is that it was one each on the left and right side panels. Also, one of the drawer panel rails were slightly bent; I was able to work that back into place with some gentle hammer work. I do not discount stars for damage in shipping, that's not the seller's or maker's fault - that's just gonna happen once in a while, unfortunately. Whoever is packing these up ought to either find something to protect those rails in transit, or not attach them to the drawer panels and let the end user do that part. Frankly, getting that replacement is never an easy task if only because one needs to wait for it to arrive. The build instructions were mostly intuitive. I had to take a moment to figure out exactly how the outer drawer rails were to be fastened to the inner side panels, but I was able to figure it out. It would be better if the rails were thusly marked, as to make it easier for some of us. It was a smidge smaller than I expected, and the drawers aren't really very deep. Since this is for closet storage, however, I'm not too terribly worried about that part - this goes into my walk-in closet to hold things that I just don't need laying out and around and would otherwise not fit into my main dresser. Such as my towels. My apartment doesn't have a linen cabinet in the master bed, see. The other part is that I expect this is not a dresser that will survive a move to another home very well. So quite frankly, this will probably be replaced when my roommate and I buy a home in a year or so and will therefore find its way to the dump. But, it will do the job for the next year or so while we prepare for that purchase when the time comes. Sadly, the seeming lack of durability loses a second star. Overall, it boils down to what I said in the headline. If you need a dresser on the cheap, this is an OK dresser. If you need a dresser that's durable, expect to spend more money - and look elsewhere. (Edit: modified some wording to provide some more accuracy.) ... show more

  • I like it I like it
Color: Mahogany
I like it. I've only had it a few weeks but so far so good. Everything arrived in perfect condition, nothing was damaged. WARNING!!! it has a lot of pieces to put together. I have put together A LOT of furniture so this was not hard nor the hardest thing I have put together, BUT a first timer will want to cry. The advantage of THIS dresser is the instructions are VERY detailed. Most instructions are vague or only a picture with pointing arrows. These instructions are assembly friendly. If you're a beginner, I would suggest to find something to keep the hardware in order, like the muffin tin I used, this is the first thing I do when assembling anything. It took a good 3 hrs to assemble, that includes inspecting every piece separating the hardware and snacks within arms reach. I would suggest having someone help with assembling the middle; It will be slightly difficult to install the planks to each end without help. You need a Phillips head screw driver and a hammer. You should not use a drill for the screws but I did for most the the assemble, you can mess up if you screw it too tight and split the wood but I do this a lot and know how to control the torque on the drill. The drawers are 27 inches wide (side to side) 13 inches long (front to back) and 4 inches deep. This dresser is pretty sturdy, it's just to hold clothing, it's not in a kids room, no one is going to climb on it. The top drawers with lock and key is cute --IT'S NOT A SAFE-- but if you have roommates or someone that will be mosey; this can be a deterrent. It would be obvious if someone tried to tamper with it. All and all it's a nice dresser but if this is your first time assembling this will take a long time and be frustrating. I would suggest it to a friend and help them put it together :) ... show more

  • Complete garbage from start to finish. Would give negative stars if I could. Complete garbage from start to finish. Would give negative stars if I could.
Color: Black
Brought the box inside the house, noticed that the corners were a bit beat up. Ok, no big deal, right? Big heavy box, sometimes this sort of thing happens. Got the box upstairs (no small feat, the box is 114lb) and moved it into the room where we were going to set up the dresser. Squeezed the box with my ape arms to get ready to move it the last few feet and had a poof of pebbled styrofoam come out of the corner. The optimist in me said "Nah, no worries", but the pessimist in me said "Aw, crap. We're screwed." Let us progress through the pictures that I took to document this adventure. Picture 1 - Set the box on its side, cut 3 seams, and opened it up. This is what we saw. Pessimistic outlook confirmed. Picture 2 - Removed a few pieces and set them on the floor (complete with their very own pebbled styrofoam decoration, nice touch) and took another picture. Pessimistic outlook now turning into pessimistic rage. Picture 3 - This is a picture of some of the pieces piled next to the garbage can that we filled with crap from inside the box. As you can see, we had a winter wonderland in the bedroom. Picture 4 - All of the pieces stacked together. Winter wonderland still exists. At this point, we grabbed the handy-dandy Dyson vacuum and proceeded to destroy the winter carnival that was attempting to take place in our bedroom. We vaccumed every ... single ... piece. During this process, we documented damage in pictures (chips and scratches, as you can see), followed by noting the oddity of one piece having 8 staples embedded into the back of it (as you can see in pictures 7 and 8) The final picture shows the pieces after they have been cleaned up and placed in a nice and neat pile. This whole process of opening, cleaning, and stacking took us a grand total of 1 hour and 20 minutes. Based on the hourly wage that myself and my girlfriend make, someone owes us approximately $66 USD for our time spent on this garbage. All joking aside - this is 100% unacceptable. The box was trashed. The styrofoam used was flimsy, shredded, and offered nearly zero protection for the product. The product itself (likely due to previously mentioned lack of styrofoam) was damaged at multiple points. All of this is documented in pictures, and we still have the box if pictures of that are needed. I will be requesting not only a full refund of this product, but also to have another sent to me at no charge. I am more than happy to ship this piece of garbage back, but I'm sure as hell not paying for it, so that will be on the company's dime, not mine. There is no excuse for this kind of thing happening. This is a colossal failure at every step of the process. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for - again You get what you pay for - again
Color: Black
You get what you pay for and this is cheap. This dresser has almost 0 storage capacity, especially for its size. Drawer faces may be over 6" and the drawer sides may be 4.57", but the interior is only 4" (about 6 t-shirts or 1 sweater. Further, they skimped on the slides which only go halfway back meaning the drawer opens less than 50% making the back 25% or so completely unusable. Assembly is cheap with even the dowels being colored plastic instead of wood, screw holes not lining up, and screw covers being stickers instead of pads (meaning they do not stay well). Parts did not align well, even when tightened. The finish easily chips off during construction and several pieces split and had to be reglued even without the use of power tools. This isn't my first rodeo with Flatpack furniture, but it will be my last with Hodedah. I would return this if I could, but it is kind of hard to return assembled flat pack furniture. ... show more
