Y'all, I'm an absolute Team Carryon Traveler (over a month on the road with one carryon and one personal item.) This means every item must have ultimate value to make the packing list. It must be as compact as possible, be well constructed, and be a necessity that I prefer to carry rather than purchase at my destination. One of those items is a travel umbrella. Given that weather shifts consistently while traveling, I am always on the lookout for a quality, compact umbrella that will hold up to heavy wind, rain, snow, sun, (sometimes hail!), and general rough handling. Every travel umbrella I have purchased has lasted less than a full year. The handle quits working. The ribs get turned inside out by the wind and tear the fabric. They get left behind somewhere. I have several full size umbrellas that are steadfast -- they are not compact, but they are sturdy and have lasted for years -- but they don't make the carryon packing list due to size. I want the sturdiness of a large umbrella in a compact travel package. This umbrella fits the bill and is a hybrid combination of compact and full size. It's not the smallest travel umbrella at 12" long, but it is an acceptable size because of its construction and functionality. It opens easily and stays open. There are ten ribs and it has a full, wide 47" canopy, which is reinforced with an additional layer of fabric to protect the top of the umbrella from the ribs poking through. I like the arc of the umbrella and the feel of the textured handle in my hand. It has a woven wrist strap for extra security in the wind or for carrying on a walk when not in use. It is a very attractive, classic medium navy blue color. The sleeve for the umbrella will not be used again -- I find them less useful since the umbrella has an attached Velcro strap to keep it closed -- the frustration level of trying to shrink any umbrella back into their tight case is not worth the effort for me! This umbrella easily fits in my personal item side water pocket zipped with the handle showing. For me this is a true winner. It's well made, reasonably priced, and it has earned a place to carry it with me when traveling.

I love that the button is used not only to set up the umbrella but also to bring in the arms when breaking it down. Everybody finds it fascinating when I show it off. It allows you to pull it in without it resisting as much as a normal fully extended umbrella would be.

Love that this is easy and fast to open, however closing it is a different matter. The button collapses the canopy, but you have to manually push the canopy down to the handle which is pretty difficult for me to do and taskes me two hands to accomplish. I will need to now buy a new one as this is really incovenient to use.

I love the quality of this umbrella but it is a huge pain in the rear when you need to close it. It's very hard to push the umbrella down to the bottom and it's super right; and, it's near impossible to use just one hand. You have to use both hands in order to close the umbrella all the way.

My InnoLab Design High-Performance Umbrella came well packaged and in a plastic sleeve. At first glance it looks like any other compact spring activated umbrella I have ever had but the instant I picked it up I could feel the quality. The thick plastic handle has nice dimples that feel good when you grip it, the umbrella fabric feels substantial and of good quality, and when you press the button and the umbrella opens there is a powerful spring action as it smoothly glides open. I have to admit I have a collection of cheap disposable umbrellas I keep at home and in my car but this is why I am genuinely impressed with this one. The structural ribs are clearly more substantial than is the norm and the main post also feels nice and solid. There are ten ribs instead of there being eight or less like other umbrellas. The main canopy is made of two pieces of fabric with a wind flap at the midsection all around it to allow gusts of wind to pass through and not wreck the structural ribs. I don't want to overstate the durability and strength of this umbrella but it is definitely purpose built to be able to handle stronger gusts of wind than other compact umbrellas. The ad says this umbrella is windproof! Which is perhaps going a little far but its strength is its main selling point and I love it. While I ordered this product through the Vine Program, at the current price point I believe an umbrella of this quality is an excellent value. I would gladly order this product again.

This is a great umbrella. It is sturdy and well made. In a click of the button, the umbrella opens and closes. Has a velcro strap to keep it in place when not in use. It's a little difficult to get the cover back over the umbrella when storing, but that's not a big deal to me. Looks and feels like it will hold up well when there's a storm.
