These marimba mallets are pretty nice and have a decent amount of weight to them, which makes them feel appropriate for actual playing rather than just a novelty accessory. That said, they are fairly generic in construction, so I'm not entirely sure how well they'll hold up over an extended period of regular use. Where I think these really shine is as a good option for younger students who are just getting into playing marimba or xylophone and don't necessarily need a professional-grade set yet.     • Good Mallets--better for Marimba than Xylophone

I picked up this mallet line in five different hardness levels, from the M611 (Soft) through M615 (Hard), and the review is very similar for all 5 pair. The mallet shafts were straight with a good weight. The yarn is a little thinner weight than I'm used to seeing on marimba mallets, but not necessarily in a bad way, just different. The hardness level seemed consistent from the Soft through the Hard, where each increased number had a little more edge to the sound. These will work best on a marimba, but can also be used on the low end of a xylophone for a marimba-like sound (they hardly make sound on the upper end of the xylophone).
