  • Budget meets power. Not exactly 3000rms but huge power.
300 dollars for this amount of clean sounding power is certainly a great deal. Amp does get hot, although I run it for at least an hour straight on 90 degree weather with my gain just a bit over matching my head unit. This needs power. 2AWG or 0 g international is a must and it needs at least a 200 amp fuse just after the battery (for 1 ohm load). I have a 300 amp alternator with the proper big 3 upgrade and it absolutely slams. Dual yellow optima batteries in series. Should be about perfect for this monster. You need well built subs to reach full potential. Set it up correctly. Use large decent quality wiring and the big 3 upgrade. Having a better alternator and more than 1 battery will help. SET YOUR GAIN RIGHT IT IS NOT A VLUME KNOB. Find out your rms watts out of your receiver. My Kenwood is 2 volts rca out. I usually draw out the gain knob and measure lines to find what is close to matching since I do not have any equipment from Steve Meade. Gain can commonly be between 1/2 and 2/3rds tops. For best quality don't bass boost. Once the amp reaches full output it overrides it anyway, not worth clipping. Other nice features are phase shift, center frequency, wavelength adjustment along with the more standard hpf and lpf. You don't see these on other budget amplifiers. I am assuming the efficiency is fair. Never blew a 200 amp fuse. This Brutus 3016.1 D is paired up with my CT Sounds Exo 15 D2 wired to 1 ohm. This sub is rated at 2500 RMS 5000 watt peak, and believe me... it pounds. At least a 3 inch excursion and I have not had a mechanical bottom even with frequencies between 25-35 hertz. Absolutely worth every penny. The sub-woofer weighs 75 pounds. I fit these in a tight spaced convertible trunk and I've already had police complaints. This is the biggest mono-block class D amp Hifonics makes currently with the exception of the Elite and Goliath etc. It does get hot, but it's on the brink of insanity. It's not exactly a certified 3000 watts RMS, but I bet it'll pass a Dynamic burst test with good voltage. Get this amp. Thumbs up! Update. I purchased this in 2016. it is almost 2023. I sent it to hell and back and then again. Although the blue led lights stopped working this thing still sounds like I just bought it. Non stop hearing loss and loosening objects on vehicle. Verified heard from 3 or 4 blocks away. Sounds incredible in my Mountaineer aka ford explorer. Flexes the darn roof like a wave pool. Amazing for under 300 dollars. ... show more

  • You HAVE to wire it correctly ya amateurs
I’ve had the Brutus 3016.1 for roughly 3 years, problem free. It makes my 15” RF P2’s pound so hard you can feel it vibrate your skin. It’s rattled the rear lights loose on my SUV. The rear view mirror is now just for looks because it rattles out of adjustment within seconds of positioning it. Based on a large amount of the less than stellar reviews that I’ve seen, I’m lead to believe they’re not installing it properly. Every complaint about it going into protect mode tells me that they weren’t using a proper ground. If you aren’t using AT LEAST 2ga wiring, you haven’t earned the right to complain. Period. If you feed this amp proper power and proper ground, you won’t have any issues. That being said, it is not reaching 3,000 watts. With the gain set to the half way point, and LPF all the way up, using a 40hz test tone, it hit 2200 watts at 1ohm on the amp dyno. Even still, to get 2200 watts out of a Rockford fosgate amp, you’re going to pay $1,500. All in all, it’s a nice amp at a nice price, it’s cost per watt is very low versus most name brand amps. If you power and ground it with a minimum of 2ga wiring you won’t have issues and your ride will set off car alarms within a 50 yard radius. ... show more

  • Great amp for the price
I've had two Kicker CompRs (500 watts RMS each) in my trunk, but I was seriously underdriving them with the Kicker amp I had that put out 300 watts RMS, so I decided to go for the upgrade. I was willing to pay for big name brand quality, but not if I didn't have to. I went with the Hifonics Brutus 2016.1 because it provides 1000 watts RMS over a 2 ohm impedance load, which is exactly what my subs needed (2 4ohm wired together = 2 ohm). I had read good things about Hifonics on the message boards. Key features for me, besides supplying the requisite power, are remote bass control knob, subsonic filter, and low-pass filter that goes down to 35hz (most go to 50 or 40). This amp seriously BANGS. Like, I couldn't imagine someone wanting MORE bass, and this is with the gain only halfway up. Run it for a few 2 hour drives on hot days, and no overheating issues, even though it is not mounted in a well ventilated area. Overall, this amp delivered amazing sound and power at a very reasonable price. The only downside I noticed was that it put a serious strain on my car's electrical. When the bass hit hard at night, the backlighting behind the instrument panel would flicker dim for a second every time. This problem was solved by installing a second battery (this is very easy to do on a Land Rover--they even build them with special compartments under the hood designed for an aux battery) and a 1.5 farad Tspec capacitor. Now, I can run the safari lights, the GPS, the dash cam, the USB charging ports and the power inverter with the music turned up to 11 and no problems. So the only note here is this is a great amp, but if your car's electrical is not up to it, you may need to modify for heavy current draw. Highly recommended. ... show more
