  • Could Use Better Traction, Too Roomy like Clown Shoes, Poor Quality Inside Liner
Size: 7.5 Color: Dark Grey/Navy Blue
First of all, these are the most comfortable shoes I think I've every put on my feet, and that includes slippers. I literally fell asleep with them on because I didn't want to take them off. That said, I wear between 7.5 - 8, and based on everyone else's reviews, I opted for the 7.5 to account for that much-mentioned extra wide toebox. Even so, the 7.5s are too big and I have exchanged them for a size 7. I'm never a size 7, but even in Thorlo socks, the 7.5s just didn't feel like I had security around my foot. I like my hiking shoes to hug my feet, and having worked for K2 Inline Skates in the past, I'm used to a snug around the sides, breathable toe box, and super comfortable foot bed. These shoes are really cute in the soft blue, though also looked large on my feet - like aggressive inline skates - even at the 7.5 size. With all that said, I'm in absolute love with these shoes. If these in 7s fit perfectly, clean easily AND if they're as waterproof as I hope (I cross several creeks gold panning and hiking with my dogs), they'd get 6 Stars from me - they'd surpass all percieved expectations. Once I get the 7s, I'll update if they're too small, seeing as how I'm not a 7 in anything but perhaps these. I'll also update on waterproof-ness. For the record, I am replacing my KEEN Targhees which I LOVE, but both the soles started peeling off(!) until both soles completely came off over just a couple of years. KEEN (which I would've opted for, but presently cannot afford) has great customer support, and they suggested I use Barge Cement to resole the shoes. Even with the strong cement, they're nowhere near as secure as new hiking boots. For around $64 with tax, these Hi-Tecs may just well replace my love affair with KEEN. UPDATE: I got the 7s, and they are too small. That roomy-feeling toe box doesn't hug my feet snugly like my KEENs, but on my home, my foot moves forward a bit and that large, roomier toe of the 7.5 ended up being perfect, and I returned the 7s. One thing I did notice - there's this pipe I cross in a creek nearby to get into the wood, and in my KEENs, I don't slip on the otherwise slimy covered pipe. In these Hi-Tecs, I slipped. Therefore, the traction of the KEEN soles is much better - same applied with climbing mushy/muddy ledges; these Hi-Tecs don't have as great traction, although it's not bad. Just not AS good as my KEENs. Great for ther price, and definitely waterproof. UPDATE: Removed one more star. Water got in and the footbed liner moved out of place and the top layer completely came out of both shoes. I have found that the roomy toe box sucks for hiking. Even though they're spacious and comfortable, compared to my KEENs which hug me around my foot snuggly, the roominess of these make me feel like I'm wearing clown shoes. Wish I could return for a new pair of KEENs. UPDATE AT 4 MONTHS: I am not a fan of these anymore. Even though they were like a cloud to wear when I first got them, I've realized that I don't want clouds on my feet when I'm hiking. I want soldiers. These Hi-Tecs have nothing on my KEENs. I love the way my KEENs hug my foot and make me feel secure. "Clouds" are fluffy and thus the Hi-Tecs allow for shifting and movement of the foot through the soft top and toe box. The very last place I want my foot to feel roomy and fluffy is when I'm stepping up on steep rocks, avoiding potential copperheads, or needing to be perfectly balanced to walk across a slippery log 20' above a rapid river. I want soldiers protecting my feet, snug and safe-feeling. Also, the traction is non-existent. I have to cross this metal pipe to get across a creek 4 times per day, and with my Hi-Tecs, I slip off the pipe Every.Time. My KEENs don't slip at all, even when the pipe is wet and slick during rain, or when the creek is high enough to cover the pipe. The Hi-Tecs are certainly waterproof - both the Hi-Tecs and the KEENs are. I've walked daily multiple times through nearly ankle deep water and my feet have not gotten wet. And I mean I STOOD in the water for some time, so they're more than water resistant, definitely waterproof. But that feeling of the KEENs hugging the top of my foot with a snug, secure fit completely outweighs this very cloudlike-comfortable but roomy Hi-Tec toe box. Finally, after falling in the water deep enough for the water to enter the shoe ONCE, the fact that these are so waterproof actually prevented the water from escaping the shoe - the roomy toe box, and the wet slushiness of my foot in it, caused my non-snug feet to shift around resulting in big blisters on several toes on each foot. Additionally, after that *one* walk home with those wet Hi-Tecs, the liner inside the soles of both right and left shoes detached from being soaked, and came out. I had to buy new insoles. Final verdict: I went from 5 to 3 to 2 stars, and that's where I ended up after 4 months. Of course, I can't return these after 4 months. What I did do, though, was order a new pair of KEEN Targhees by the "Try Before You Buy" option to see if I truly love new KEENs or if, after all this, my old KEENs were just some freak anomaly pair of the perfect hiking boot that I will strive to find but will forever elude me. ... show more

  • Run large one full size!
Size: 6.5 Color: Dark Grey/Navy Blue
I have been buying this brand for years. I usually wear a 7. Last time, I bought 6.5 to fit. This time, I’m returning to get a 6. I compared this shoe to my previous 6.5 and they are definitely bigger. That said,I love these boots. They are very comfortable with my fallen arches and the price is budget friendly. ... show more

  • Love these boots
Size: 9 Color: Dark Grey/Navy Blue
These boots are comfortable for my feet. I love the color and the price. I do not use them for hiking, so I do not know how comfortable they would be on a hike. I wear a size 8.5, but I bought a size 9 and they fit great.

  • Toe tip is paper covered!!
Size: 9.5 Color: Medium Grey
Hi there to all. Please forgive me. I posted the following review thinking it was for the BANDERA HiTech hikers, not these. These are essentially the same review w same support n all but the toe tip surround is crepe paper covered that I was griping about. So the following review was for the BANDERA hiker:: here it was: (get the Banderas!): I gave these 4 stars cuz my previous pair got pretty wet. I stuffed them really tightly w newspapers n put in front of furnace vent. They shrunk. Next time I won’t put in front of furnace vent. So they’re not completely water proof as advertised. But I reluctantly got another pair just because I’m a Hi Tech brand girl cuz I like the fit on my feet!!! I wore them for 20 years in the AIr Force. My old pair that shrunk that I bought 4 years ago had actual leather around toe tip instead of that fake thin crepe paper junk that scratched immediately on another Hi Tech hiker that I returned. I forgot which one but if u enlarge the pictures on internet, u can tell it’s that crepe paper junk. Now on these, it’s not the crepe paper junk, but something more sturdy but I don’t think it’s leather like I hoped. 🤨😢 too bad. I like leather. These are still definitely sturdy, really sturdy. If they held up in military field exercises n gardening n mowing my yard, they’re just perfect for the price….. if that new toe tip holds up but I’ve only worn 4-5 times. I hafta use a shoe horn to get mine on, even the previous ones, without loosening the laces all the way. So they’re really supportive around ur ankle. I have average width foot so if you have wide feet….. My size 9 fits perfectly. The sole grips are perfect. I didn’t suffer any falls, dislocations, sprained ankles, etc in vigorous military exercises. ... show more

  • Length is longer?
Size: 7.5 Color: Dark Grey/Navy Blue
I have bought and wore out two pair of these. Ordered a new pair, 7.5, same size as the others. They are way too long and don't have the grip on the soles as previously bought pairs. I wish they would keep the style the same, ugh. Had to return them. Not sure if I will buy a half size smaller yet, seen comments of other people that did and were still not happy with the fit. ... show more

  • Way exceeded expectations: Comfort and quality
Size: 8.5 Color: Medium Grey
I needed a pair of boots in short order for a trip to New Mexico that may include snow. I was looking for waterproof, warmth, traction, and hoping for something semi-cute. Oh, and I didn’t want to spend a lot for boots I will rarely wear beyond this trip (my rugged hiking days are behind me). This checks all the boxes. I wasn’t familiar with this brand but decided to take a chance, and wow, I’m really surprised at the quality for half the price of other boots I looked at. So yes, they do run a little large, but I am grateful for that, as I can add my orthotics and use warm socks. They don’t seem to have much arch support if that is an issue for you, but they have room for sturdy OTC orthotics. Love the toe cap for extra protection. They are SUPER COMFORTABLE. Wore them all day to see if I could break them in a bit, and they felt great all day, no break-in needed for light duty. Love the purple accents with the (faintly greenish) gray. Overall, very impressed! ... show more
