Read some of the other reviews here, written by people who received this product from Amazon for free, who do not seem to know a whole lot about DJ hardware and what to expect from it. I am a professional DJ, and I'd like to give my two cents. I bought this controller just for fun to see how it is. I wasn't sure what to expect from it, but I was beyond pleasantly surprised. This controller comes with Serato DJ Lite, which another reviewer complained about because of the cost associated with upgrading to DJ Pro, and questioned the trustworthiness of Serato. I can assure you that Serato DJ Pro is extremely widely used and respected by pros, and although Lite has limited features and promotes upgrading to Pro, it is still very good software and its shortcomings shouldn't reflect negatively on the controller itself; especially since a Pro license is only $100, which, assuming you already have a laptop, makes your total investment $180 - an extremely reasonable price for a functioning DJ setup, seeing as a single Pioneer CDJ can cost 10x that. Anyway, upon getting the Starlight in the mail, I immediately plugged it in and got to some mixing. The knobs and pitch faders feel very high quality, not too far short of what you'd have on a much more expensive controller. The quality of the audio output is pretty good as well, not superb but no worse than an average smartphone's headphone jack. I saw other reviewers complaining about the inability to connect Bluetooth headphones; this is not a valid complaint, I have never known of any piece of DJ gear with Bluetooth output, mainly due to the lag and quality limitations of Bluetooth audio. I suppose the last thing to address would be the LED lighting, which is certainly corny, but it's a fun touch and I see how it could appeal to new and/or very young DJs. Overall I would recommend this product to anyone looking to try out DJing or to give to their children to do so (assuming they have access to a Windows or Mac laptop). Remember when buying any DJ or audio gear to take online reviews with a grain of salt. Some people don't know enough to judge whether a product is good or bad, but review it anyway, resulting in uninformed and unwarranted praise or criticism. Quick and easy connections, works great with Serrato DJ Pro. But a couple key features are missing and some annoyances. First, selecting songs and loading them into the decks require external control - would be great if they used the existing shift-key and a knob (such as the two track volume controls) to scroll and select a song instead. Second, the lights are fun but when the deck is not being used, they continue to run patterns even when the computer sleeps- annoying at night requiring you to unplug it. No re-mapping capabilities to reassign functionality in the software as well. The sound is good but I would hesitated using it on a large venue/club, headphones have a decent output but can distort if pushed. For the price, it is a fun portable deck and can easily fit in a backpack. The bass/filter option is an improvement over the competition as well. ... show more

First, I was a well seasoned professional nightclub/bar DJ/Remixer starting early 80's spanning to 2001. Went into computing and Semiconductor production. Anyway, my point is although I would often have dj mixing software I would only play with them occasionally and much like a game. I found waiting for digital software to catch up to what I could do with vinyl as far as accuracy and creativity. Pushing 60 I became stricken with a debilitating disease last year which restricts me to my couch at home and mostly isolated and being that I traded my vinyl collection for an equally impressive digital collection so I started mixing on the computer for only for my enjoyment and for the most part really good with just my laptop and mouse but thought if I could find a controller appropriately suited for a laptop bag and short term travel would be beneficial because it can get dicey trying to figure out the cursor location while trying to do more with a really short track than just play it so after researching I decided on the Hercules DJ Controller Starlight and I have been tickled with it ever since. The reason this review is so heavy with my personal background is during my researching I came across a few negative reviews that I felt based on unreasonable expectations such as no dampend sliders or crossfader or jog wheels could be smoother and such. Perspective should always be considered. That being said, for the hobbiest eighther young or not committed to the path necessary to contend or compete with skilled dj's then this controller is built well for price range and size. I would feel completely comfortable if I had to use it as a substitute for a smaller pro gig.👍 ... show more
