It is a really solid and sturdy backpack! The thick acrylic plastic does get scratched up though, so if aesthetics are important to you, then spend the extra energy to make sure that it doesn’t get scratched up or scuffed. I bought this backpack in 2020 and only used it a handful of times with my first cat. Right when I was conditioning her to become an “adventure cat“ I had to put her down unexpectedly. I just adopted a new kitten and am finally getting some use out of this backpack again. Poppy Seed, my orange baby, never had a problem with this and would regularly sleep in this when given the chance. My current baby, Carrot Cake, is still getting used to it, but after a few minutes of protest from her, she eventually settles in and will even go to sleep. The backpack, while not exactly small, isn’t very large either. And it is definitely not for fat cats that are overweight/obese or for cat breeds that are larger. Poppy was 8 pounds, and my current kitten is 4.5 pounds. I would not put a cat over 10 pounds in this carrier as it can get rather cramped in there for long excursions. While it was a really good backpack to have, I will be ordering a different one from another seller that is expandable. This different one has more mesh to allow for better circulation (something that I get worried about being in the hot and humid south). And it also has an option to expand the back to where it has a little tent. That way Carrot Cake can comfortably and safely stay inside the carrier during picnics or on breaks during our hikes, but still a little bit more space to stretch her legs and move around. If this backpack had an option to be expandable, by even just a little bit, I probably wouldn’t have bothered looking for a new one. But since I plan to take her on hikes, walks, Kayaking, and wherever I can, I want to make sure there will be enough space for a small battery powered fan if I needed one (esp with Summer coming up). And this backpack just does not have enough space for that and for my cat.

Had a small issue and had to return the first one I received (it was cracked and had dog hair in it, so it must have been a return.) Aside from that, this backpack is great. My Shih Tzu (~8.8lbs) doesn't mind it, but my Chihuahua (~5lbs) is terrified of it. It can be hard getting them in it but once they're in it's very stable and while it at first doesn't seem like it provides much support, it really does. It's very comfortable on my back and feels like a normal backpack. Getting it on and off can be tricky though. Overall it's a great product that I would purchase again. I think there are multiple models because the first one had a different (smaller and fine carpet) pad than the replacement and it had a hook on the top and not the bottom inside, but if the first one didn't have a crack it would have been equally as nice as the replacement. If small things like that could affect your use case, maybe reach out to the seller in advance to see if you can arrange shipment of a specific model. The price is amazing for what this is, and it's a great buy for anyone that wants to take their small pets with them hiking but doesn't want to risk the dangers of them being on the ground.

My sphynx is 7.8lbs and fit well in this but my fluffy Norwegian Forest cat is 12lbs and is crammed in there so I’d say maybe 10lbs is the max comfortable limit but that’s probably pushing it. Zelda (sphynx) loves it though and we leave it out and with the side door open so she can play in and out. She’ll “hide” in it and swipe at our dogs and cat when they come by, or just carry toys in and sit. It’s really nice for cat rides because she prefers to see me when riding in the car so I have to angle normal carriers just right or she cries. She’ll just sit and relax in this and keep an eye on me and everything else around her. Bo (Forest Cat) absolutely hates it and that picture was taken at great protest and caused lots of yelling afterward from him. It’s not for every cat, especially if you have to cram them in there like that. It’s sturdy and well made so far and has survived multiple cat tussles on and around it, and a clumsy 100lb Lab falling on it a few times (luckily without a cat in it). After lots of looking this was the biggest I could find on Amazon or anywhere with the full clear front so I’ll probably grab another 1 or 2 to be sure I have one when this inevitably starts to show age and wear.

I bought a green one and I have used it a few times to carry my kitten to the vet for his vaccinations. When I originally received it, I placed it on the ground so the kitten could get used to it. He was very curious and immediately went into it and then peed in it thinking it was a litter box. I washed it out in the bathtub and it was fairly easy to clean and then I hung it up to dry. It looks great still and I do leave it on the ground in our living room. I do lay it down on the back so the bubble is facing up. I do have two kittens and both of them just love to play with it. They crawl in and out and hide in it. One of the kittens does occasionaly take naps inside. Since I let them play and get used it, it makes it so easy for me to put him inside. I just open the door and call his name and he crawls right in. It zips up easily and I like that there are two ways to access the inside. Everyone seems to think it's adorable and it does make it easier to carry because it's a backpack. I am getting my kittens neutered in a week on the same day. I just purchased another one in blue so I can carry both of them at the same time. As soon as I got it, I put it on the floor and the cats immediately went to them and started playing in there. At one point, there was a cat in each one just sitting. I recommend these carriers and I also recommend you put them somewhere out in the open so the cats can get used to them. Makes them a lot more comfortable with the carriers.

The backpack is pretty low quality. It reeked of mothballs so badly we had to put it in another room. Imagine what that smells like to a cat whose noses are far more sensitive. We sunned it for several days and the smell still returns. It came with plastic wrap over the plastic shield. That is a good thing right? It helps it not get scratched up. Except for the backpack was assembled with the plastic wrap in place so when you peel the plastic wrap off it won't come out from the seams or air holes. It leaves shreds of the plastic wrap all over the bag because you cant pull it out. The bottom of the bag lacks support so it collapses in around the cat not allowing them to use the full space. Instead the cat is smooshed up against the plastic shell because the bottom of the bag folds in on itself. This review is not to embarrass the seller. The bag was shipped and arrived very quickly. The review is simply to help people understand what they will receive. Money is tight for most people. I am just trying to provide honest feedback so you know what to expect.
