I've tried a brand name tamper, then I bought this thinking it'd be pretty much the same. Nope. This is much lighter and wobbly due to the way it is built (the handle is aluminum and divided in 3 pieces that you have to assemble). Given the lighter weight, most of the tamping force has to come from the person tamping, not the tool itself. When you use a heavy tamper you just have to lift it a couple of ft off the ground and gravity will do the rest, not with this one. ... show more

As I was walking through our local Home Depot yesterday evening, I spotted a major-brand steel tamper with features and price almost identical to this one; but I purchased this one from Amazon because, compared to the one in the store and most others, this one has a larger stamping area. This one has a 10" x 10" stamping area. Most others are only 8" x 8". The larger surface area of this stamper translates into less work for the user. I really needed this 😢 I went to put this together last night and it didn’t have holes where it needed them , being made out of metal it’s going to be really hard for me to drill new holes myself , I ordered this in December knowing I wouldn’t need it till spring , My Bad for not checking and making sure it was made properly and just assuming it was made well , No I wouldn’t order or recommend this product, ... show more
