    • This KVM isn't worth the time I spent on it
I work in IT, and reading some of the reviews I thought this product might have some rough edges but decent KVMs are hard to find at a good price, so I'd try it. This KVM isn't worth the time I spent on it, let alone the money. The manual is very hard to follow along with. I ended up having to scour Amazon reviews to get it initially setup. The KVM has this obnoxiously loud beep coming out of the box and the first thing I recommend is pressing 0 + Open to mute it. Wait, but don't do that because you'll need to listen to the beep as a part of the setup. If you're doing this because you're working from home your partner might ask you what's making all the noise. Personally I live in a duplex and I got teased by my partner because she got asked by the neighbor. They thought it was a fire alarm that was low on batteries. Now if you actually want that beeping noise, just not so loud, there's no volume adjust option either. Also all configuration has to be done without the remote, and if you lose the remote it seems you can't set the device again. Also according to the manual you have to go through the pairing process everytime you go reconnect it. After finally getting it 'working' I realized I'd screwed up some of my cabling and I had to go through the whole process again because I unplugged something. Oh, and it doesn't work with my keyboard or mouse. Or my webcam apparently. Can confirm it works with a HP printer though! ... show more

    • Was about to send it back - now I am (almost) perfectly happy with it
When I first tried to set that switch up, it didn't detect my second monitor, which is different in resolution from my first one. So I thought I had to send the unit back - I already had the return label printed. Then I decided to have it scan the monitors one more time. It seemed like it took a real long time to scan this time... and it found the correct settings for my second monitor. Works like a charm now! And unlike many other (single monitor) KVM switches I had before, this one is heavy enough not be be pulled around (and off the desk) by the relatively heavy and stiff HDMI/USB cables - it rests solidly on the desk. Switching between computers is straightforward with the front-panel switches. There is also a remote control, but I see no real use for it. It comes with an English user's manual, but the "Chinglish" could be improved upon as it is sometimes a little hard to read. The biggest drawback for me is the brightness of the LEDs at the front panel (not a big enough issue to reduce the rating). There are two red LEDs that indicate proper connection of the USB cables to the two PCs, and two green LEDs that indicate which PC is selected. Once the unit is set up properly, the red LEDs convey no real information anymore, as they are always on - only the green ones do. Yet the red LEDs are many times brighter than the green ones - even uncomfortably bright IMHO. So now mine are covered with a piece of electrical tape ;-) ... show more

The instructions for the connections is quite confusing, and I ended up getting my primary and secondary monitors backwards. Fortunately Windows lets you configure which is your primary, so even though it shows in the display settings as 2-1 instead of 1-2, I set 2 as my primary monitor and it's good to go. I could have swapped the HDMI cables but once I had everything connected and the device tucked away I didn't want to mess with it again. As for functionality, it works perfectly. I attached it to my main desktop and to my laptop docking station, so when I connect my work laptop I just hit the 2 button and it switches over perfectly, then when I'm done I press 1 and it goes back right away. So much easier than constantly swapping monitor cables and storing two sets of keyboards and mice. UPDATE: I've had this for a year now and have upgraded my entire workstation including monitors and now have a triple monitor station. A triple KVM switch is too much of a price jump so I just kept this one and manually switch inputs on the third monitor. This KVM switch is still working perfectly and even when upgrading my workstation I didn't have to reconfigure the KVM switch, it just kept working. So the initial setup is rather confusing, but once it's in place and working it just works. It's made working from home so much easier. I would recommend this to anyone and would buy it again if I had to. UPDATE 2: I'm going to have to dock one star. The title and description says it will do 4k at 30Hz. However after upgrading my monitors to 4k it will not pass it onto the monitors. Windows doesn't see a 4k monitor so it doesn't even give the option. I can use the Nvidia control panel to force 4k resolution, but it still doesn't make it through the KVM switch to the monitors. So my choices now are either manually switch between monitor inputs or continue to use the kvm switch and be limited to 1080p resolution. So, if you don't have 4k monitors this switch works great. If you do have 4k monitors it will not handle that resolution. ... show more
