I bought this kit for my husband's birthday and he loved it! He always gets a snow cone at street fairs and, like all guys, he loves machines - so it was all good! The kit is great as it includes everything you need to make them for a crowd, right from the start. The machine works very well with regular ice cubes - no waiting for large blocks like some systems and the texture is very much the same as professional ones - not like true "snow" in Hawaii, but certainly as good as anything I have had elsewhere. The syrups are exactly the same as the ones we all love - and now we can use as much as we like, and even mix them - yum! I highly recommend this for all ages - it's very easy to operate and has good safety features. Everyone who comes over has wanted one and many asked where we got it and then ordered one themselves. I bought this for a couple of reasons. One, you can turn it on and walk away although the ice gets stuck during the process a couple times and you have to shake it or move the ice around. Two, there is a lot of room where the bowl goes. Three it had a party kit with it. It doesn't come with ice pucks like some of the machines so it shaves the ice slightly course but it does it fast. It does leave the last few ice cubes in the hopper unshaved. I fixed this problem by leaving an empty bowl under the hopper to let them melt in so I don't ever have to disassemble it. Basically it is a no frills ice shaver that shoots out a bowl of ice in about 90 seconds. The blue raspberry is delicious, the grape is pretty good, the cherry made my side hurt...sounds weird but I think my kidneys are very sensitive to some of the additives that are used in red and pink dyes...I read the back of the bottles and they have sodium benzoate which is a preservative that when mixed with vitamin c can cause cancer so I ate most of the blue raspberry because it is so good and then bought kool-aid packs with no preservatives (read the back because some of them have preservatives also) and mixed up a concoction of about 2 parts sugar to one part water and it turns out pretty good. I have eaten about 3 bottles of this in just a few days and am going to walmart soon to stock up since it turned out so good. I am hoping to find some blue raspberry kool-aid because that stuff was good. I'm not a health freak but I'm pretty sure preservatives are really not good for you if you are eating two or three helpings a day...I eat about 3 of these a day...they are delicious and hassle free with this machine. The hopper holds enough to fill a flat bottomed tupperware bowl up about 3 inches high at one time. If I had to do it again I would probably order one that uses ice molds plus ice cubes just so I could get that fine snow more easily but this is still a good machine. I am leaning towards the back to basics model because it has an adjustment knob on the side. That or the Hawaiian machine S900A.

The media could not be loaded. Got this for my daughter for a Christmas gift and she lives it. Our younger girls get the benefit of it as well! Great value for the money. The syrup that came with it an actually pretty good. The one thing I would change is the cups. The syrup leaks straight through. Don’t let that stop you from purchasing! Cheap styrofoam cups will work just fine!

A definate hit with the 12 year birthday girl. The kids at the birthday party had a great time playing with it. It helped make a small party more special and was used instantly upon opening. Hard crunchy ice - not like snow. Safe for kids to operate, so parents could talk and the kids even wanted to make us the ice. Uses bagged ice cubes. The engine definitely got stressed after 2 minutes, so you really do need to stop for a short time for lots of people . Made great mocktails too. Look online - there are make your own syrup recipes using sugar, koolaid , water and a stove if you want to save money or get away from corn syrup. Not gourmet, but for the price point and its intended use/audience, a neat product.
