I was very happy with this travel mug until Sat 8/26/2023. It always sealed good & enabled me to pack a full mug of coffee, tea or iced tea in my travel bag. And it NEVER leaked! Plus it worked great in the various size cup holder(s) of the vehicles I drive. It kept my coffee or tea hot for 5-6 hours. Or, it kept my iced tea cold when I travelled on a hot day. This travel mug worked great for me. It NEVER leaked, the lid closure was different, but it never failed. And it was insulated very well. And the handle that several people complained about, worked just fine for me. I was very happy until yesterday, August 26, 2023. And it happens to be 6 months after I bought the travel mug here on Amazon. My wife washes the mug & lid daily & occasionally uses a soft scrub brush to clean the grooves on the lid & mug that attach the lid. Then it air-dries in a dishrack. Yesterday, she was drying the jug & lid with white paper towels. The paper towel has what appears to be black mold on it. She examined the lid, even scrubbed it again with the soft brush, rinsed it & there was more black on the paper towel. Upon very close inspection, she sees what appears to be a very small diameter gasket that you see in attached photo, at the base of the lid. She had to use a toothpick to get the gasket removed from the lid. She wiped it off with a soapy dishrag & eventually gets most of the black mold off that little gasket, except for the black mold in a groove that goes all the way around the it (as seen in photo). She even tried using a toothpick & a stiff toothbrush we use for kitchen items. No way would all that black mold come out of those grooves. I then soaked the gasket in hot water then sprayed it with CLR & let it sit for a few hours. We could not get all the black mold out of those grooves on the gasket. The photo you see was taken after 4 hours of soaking, scrubbing & trying to get all that black mold off. I was that happy with that travel mug, that we spent that much time trying to clean it. And trying to get that gasket positioned correctly was another major project. That grooves do not go over anything nor are they used to hold gasket in place. It's just a small compression gasket. Apparently the black mold either came with the gasket when I bought the travel mug or it was acquired in my travels. We don't have any black mold in our home. And we hope none shows up now. There was NO instructions informing a buyer to remove & clean that gasket occasionally. Probably because the gasket is so difficult to get it turned & sealed properly. ADVICE: DO NOT take your lid apart nor remove the gasket! It's VERY DIFFICULT getting the gasket turned correctly to go back together properly. It took us several minutes to get the lid to screw tightly while getting the sipping hole positioned where it was before we started. That explains why some comments say they couldn't get their lid to position properly for sipping from the mug. Normally, I would clean this travel mug, reassemble it and continue to use it. But I don't have a spleen & my immune system is extremely compromised. And, at age 65, there's no place for black mold, anywhere, in my environment. I contacted Amazon on Sat, Aug 27, 2023. Even as a Prime Member, they redirected me to contact the seller. So I did. I sent the photo & explained as I did in this comment. The seller emailed me the following day and asked if I wanted to exchange it or if I preferred a refund. I chose a refund. I'll look for another travel mug and believe me, I will double check the gasket(s) used to seal the lid. I'm happy to report that I received a credit on my card around 12:00AM on August 29, 2023, just 2 days after I filed a complaint! I understand it was past the 30 day return process. But it's great to see a manufacturer standing behind their product. There's no way to determine if the black mold came from the factory or was it acquired somewhere in my travels. It's a shame, I really liked that travel mug. My wife & I are both commercial drivers. We're semi-retired now & drive school bus part-time. That mug was packed into my "driver's bag" every day I worked. I would toss that bag in the cab & it would often bounce around as I drove. I really liked this cup for the price and performance you can't go wrong. Be careful with the lid I some how cross threaded it a few times and it can be a real hassle getting it off again. I mostly use for coffee at work and it's great keeps it hot for almost the whole shift.

I wanted to use this to take cold water with me now that it's so hot. The mug kept my water cold even after sitting in a hot car for hours. My only complaint is that once you take the lid off the hole doesn't go back on so the straw is centered facing you when you hold the cup. No matter how many times I took it off and started to screw it back on the hole ends up in line with the handle so now I can't screw the lid completely tight so I can drink from it. ... show more

I like the cup itself, it is sturdy and a nice size but the issue I had is trying to get the lid on and lined up correctly to be able to drink from it. You have to work it really hard to get it to NOT line up with the handle. The lid design needs work.

My husband was upset when one of his favorite tumblers broke because he likes to be able to throw this in his truck and not have coffee leak everywhere if it tips. This tumbler seals so tight that’s sometimes it’s almost too hard to get the top off to clean!
