Description

We understand that for traditionalists, the only acceptable rope hammock may be a cotton one. But cotton, as a natural fiber, has inherent limitations. Cotton rope requires diligent upkeep; the rope must routinely be brought in out of bad weather and great pains need to be taken to keep it clean and well-maintained. And here you thought all that was required of you from your hammock was just to relax in it! But with DuraCord rope, which looks and feels amazingly like cotton, you can still have all that happy sense of tradition, just without the constant attention to protecting your favorite outdoor-leisure perch from the perils of extended outdoor exposure. SPECIFICATIONS: Length: 13 ft. x Width: 60 in. Bed Length: 6 ft. 10 in. Weight Capacity: 450 lbs. Hanging Distance: 14-16 ft. Hanging Height: 4 ft. Accommodates: Two People Includes: (2) Zinc-plated chains and (2) Tree hooks Care: Use Oxyclean or a Mild Detergent, Water and a Soft Scrub Brush Deluxe Duracord Rope Hammock Collection FEATURES / DETAILS: Solution-dyed synthetic blend rope that balances the softness of cotton with the durability of polyester. This combination makes the rope All-Weather proof and resistant to rot, mold, and mildew. Brazilian hardwood, similar to teak, is 5 times denser than pine, cedar, and redwood. Ages naturally to a beautiful silver grey. Exclusive to Hatteras Hammocks. Individual ropes pull against each other to produce a lattice-like design, thus eliminating the need for knots within the rope bed itself. We use 15% more rope than most of our competitors We plate all our hanging hardware, with zinc to protect against rust and ensure an overall longer outdoor life. CUMARU SPREADER BAR Exclusive to Hatteras Hammocks, the Brazilian hardwood similar to teak, Cumaru, is 5 times harder and denser than pine, cedar, and redwood. DOUBLE- LATCH WEAVE Individual ropes pull against each other to produce a lattice-like design, thus eliminating the need for knots within the rope bed itself. We use 15% more rope than most of our competitors. ZINC-PLATED HARDWARE We plate all our hanging hardware, with zinc to protect against rust and ensure an overall longer outdoor life. Read more DURACORD ROPE: Our own proprietary solution- dyed synthetic blend of rope, DuraCord, blends the softness of cotton with the durability of polyester. Made in the Carolinas, this combination yields a rope that has excellent color steadfastness and superior feel. DuraCord is dyed when spun, producing a rope that is colored all the way through. Like a carrot when sliced open, DuraCord has the same color on both the inside and the outside. Our DuraCord rope is the densest rope on the hammock market at 85 ft./lb., this results in less stretching and increased support when relaxing in your hammock. CUMARU SPREADER BAR: A Brazilian hardwood similar to teak, Cumaru, is 5 times harder and denser than pine, cedar, and redwood. Exclusive to Hatteras Hammocks, our Cumaru hardwood has a history of outstanding outdoor performance. Even after years of use, our Cumaru hardwood ages naturally to a beautiful silver grey without losing any of its durability. Our Cumaru Spreader bars are a full 1 inch thick, compared to most other competitor’s spreader bars that measure at ⅞ inch. A thicker spreader bar allows more holes for rope, allowing the hammock bed to sit firmly on the hammock. Our spreader bars also feature countersink drilled holes. Countersink drillingis a technique that uses a trumpet drill bit that produces a hole with no hard angles, allowing the rope to pass through without any sharp edges to wear the rope. DOUBLE-LATCH WEAVE: All our Rope Hammocks are Handwoven by highly trained weavers that have mastered the technique of the Double-Latch Weave. This technique is best described when individual ropes pull against each other to produce a lattice-like design, thus eliminating the need for knots within the rope bed itself. We use 15% more rope than our competitors, which provides a sturdier hammock bed for complete relaxation. ZINC-PLATED HARDWARE: We plate all our hanging hardware with Zinc Plated Coating, including both tree hooks that come standard with our hammocks. The zinc plated coating prevents the accumulation of rust and ensures a longer outdoor life. Our very own One-piece ring-knot and chain, a product of years of development, permanently attaches the chain to the O-ring. This produces a hammock that is more durable and most importantly makes it impossible to lose the chain. Note: Don't worry if your own Hatteras Rope Hammock at first seems a little shorter than its advertised length; your hammock will soon reach its full length through natural stretching from initial use. • Expensive? Yep. Worth it? Definitely. Last one lasted me 19 years.
Is it more expensive than a lot of other hammocks available here? Yep but it's worth it. I had gotten a hammock and stand for my parents cottage 20 years ago from a retail store in the mall. It lasted 19 years being outside all summer in Muskoka weather and actually 1 or 2 winters outside. My over-sized posterior finally started busting through it last summer. Prior to this summer I remembered that they needed a new one so I had my Mom go check the size of the stand and she happened to notice the Hatteras name on the wood. I'm glad she did or I probably would have just bought some cheap thing that would have only lasted 2-3 years. Nobody ever regrets buying quality. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to get this quality hammock instead of making a $50 purchase you'll regret in a year. ... show more

  • So far held up well outdoors for a year.
We've had it for 1 year at our beachfront vacation rental. The Hatteras has had extreme weather exposure. We left it outdoors all year round and it still works perfectly. the wood looked a little dry so I put paste wax on it a few times in the last 12 months. The big question is should you buy a $50 hammock once a year or buy a $200 hammock and hope it lasts four years. Our neighbors have a $50 hammock (similar-looking but less comfortable) that's already falling apart after 12 months. Update: two and a half years after purchase our three kids including an adult size teenager we're wrestling on the hammock and broke two cords it's definitely misuse of the product but I will say close examination reveals frayed chords in many locations so I wouldn't be surprised if this hammock would have only lasted 6 or 12 months more. lf we had taken the hammock insid during the winters it would probably last more than a decade but for continuous outside use such as at our vacation rental three to four years is a reasonable expectation. ... show more

  • Very comfortable and more durable than cotton rope hammocks
4 years ago I replaced a 5 year old cotton rope hammock that had rotten and broken strands with a Duracord hammock at our Wisconsin vacation home (only used from June - September, but left out in the rain)...it still looks and feels brand new. I recently replaced our 10 year old cotton rope hammock at our primary residence in California (used from April - October, which is primarily dry weather), given that the cotton rope hammock ropes were fraying and one finally broke. Duracord is far more durable than cotton and is just as comfortable and is more resistant to rot than cotton. ... show more

  • A memorable hammock
I purchased this brand hammock and spent this kind of money on it because it was the brand my father had growing up. When I went to visit him at his summer cottage I would “swing” on the hatteras hammock all the time. It was also my job to bring it in and out each day so it wouldn’t be ruined by the rain over time. I’m reminded of my childhood now as I relax and read on this high quality hammock. ... show more

  • You don't even know it's not cotton!
My parents owned a cotton Hatteras hammock for years and I was really impressed by the durability of it (they've had it for over 20 years). So naturally when I went looking for a hammock I searched for a Hatteras one. Initially, I was hesitant to buy the DuraCord for fear of it not being comfortable but after seeing other reviews I decided to get one. In my opinion you cannot tell the difference, almost to the point that I thought about calling Amazon to see if they sent me the correct model. After using it for a while it has stretched a little bit, but nothing more than expected. The overall size of this hammock is very large, I have been able to lay in it with all three of my kids (ages 7, 8, & 9) with me and still be comfortable. Overall I have been very happy with this purchase and would recommend this hammock to anyone. ... show more

  • Love this hammock!
Ordered a replacement hammock because our previous Hatteras hammock finally had enough after over 20 years. We left it outside, under a pine tree for years and it still held up. Love this hammock! Comfortable, beautiful, durable

  • Probably the best hammock one can buy
It. is super comfortable, plenty of room for two, and has quality ropes. Can't speak to durability - only had it a few weeks. Only gave 4 stars for value for $ as it is an expensive hammock - but like anything else, you get what you pay for.

  • Great Hammock
Great Hammock for the money. Comes with hardware for hanging between trees or you can buy a hammock stand. It's comfortable even without a pad.
